The cultural event that I attended was the Paseo First Friday Art Walk. I chose this event opposed to others because of the unique environment. This was located in downtown Oklahoma City as a strip mall known as The Paseo Arts District. There were art galleries, art demonstrations, live music, pottery, and food. This was all very fascinating to me and I enjoyed my time there. I took a friend with me to experience it as well. When we first arrived around 7 p.m., which the event started at 6p.m. through 10 p.m., there was hardly any parking. We drove through Paseo first, and then parked at the end of the strip at a gas station called Samir’s Beer, Ice, Bread, and Milk. We both got a kick out of the name. When we started walking down the strip we realized how hungry we were. There were plenty of food joints that all smelled, oh so good. One of the food joints had fire pits outside to eat next to. I told myself that I would definitely have to come back and eat out here. …show more content…
There was incense burning outside which was what had lured me in. Once we got inside, my eyes were popping out of my head with how many items were engulfed inside. There was a lot of hand crafted art, such as jewelry and candles. I marveled for a good long time in there. The first art gallery we entered was by far my favorite. It was well put together and had very extravagant art paintings. Inside a man was strumming his guitar. I loved the ambiance I felt when I walked in. People observed the art in an orderly fashion. There were snacks like cheese, tea, crackers, cookies, and homemade flavored water to enjoy as people reviewed the art displayed on the walls. The art itself was truly breathtaking and breathtakingly expensive as well. I wondered at the time how much art could have costed back in the eras we are studying in class, as composed of
When I entered through the main gallery entrance, the first thing that I noticed was this colorful glass sculpture in the middle of the room. I was in awe at how beautiful the sculpture was and the way how the light was reflected on the sculpture really emphasized the
As I walked deeper into the gallery, I found myself walking through what looked like a church with pillars of stone, stained glass windows, ...
There was a huge amount of the finest food around, tons of alcohol was served and of course that was. not a problem at all for there was a transport system for the wasted fellows. I will be there. This was the perfect place for people to show all their finest suites, it was the place where lights and colors gleamed until daylight, when the last guests left the party. It is amazing how people arrive to the party without being invited.
For My Excursion paper I choose to go visit, The Hispanic Society of America hoping to get a better understanding of how Hispanic culture has impacted art. There was a decent amount of art on display although I must say the museum was smaller than expected. The most impressive piece was Joaquin Sorolla vision of Spain a very beautiful display. I left this museum with a better understanding of how Hispanic culture impacted paintings, ceramic art, and literacy.
My experience at the Hispanic Flamenco Ballet concert in Houston, Texas was absolutely phenomenal! At the concert, I learned all about the Latin American countries and their different cultures. For every Latin country, they displayed a short slideshow explaining their culture and the roots it derived from. After the slideshow, dancers came out dressed as if they were in that particular country and performed a cultural dance that came from that country.
The actual building itself appears similar to a castle. The architecture had royal features due to the triangular points on the top of the building. There were three open doors; one big main entrance in front, two small side doors, and all the guests entered through the main entrance. Once I walked in, a big gold Buddha was centered in the back surrounding multiple iconic religious statues. There seemed to be about a hundred religious statues highly dazzled in silver or good.
Ethnography is a research method used to explore different cultures from a personal view. Many anthropologists have sought to use ethnography as their main study method because of its specificity and opportunity to get hands on. Those that participate in ethnographies are expected to accurately record detailed accounts of the society in which they are staying, but at the same time maintain a critical distance.
One of my personal favorite days of this semester was the class trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. It was a long journey to get there, especially with having to walk all the way from Penn Station, but it was a nice day so I couldn’t really complain. Plus, it was worth it because I love museums. The Met is absolutely beautiful, inside and out. I could not believe how big it was and how many galleries there actually were. I can’t wait to go back and see all of them! Our trip mostly focused upon Greek and Roman art, and I found it to be thoroughly interesting. There was so much to look at that I didn’t know where to start. I was in amazement at all of the pieces and the fascinating stories behind them. The two pieces that sparked my interest the most were the marble sarcophagus depicting the myth of Selene and Endymion and the Etruscan bronze chariot.

My first experience at the museum was a good one. I had so much fun even after we were done with the Norton-Simon. Being a business major, I did not know that art could speak to me as it did. It has not influenced me so much as to change my major, but it did open my eyes to a whole new world. Now when I look at art, I do not just see a pretty picture, but what the artist is actually trying to say.
The Denver March Pow Wow event was fun, educational and interesting. The Pow Wow consisted of many diverse native american tribes from all over the United States, who have come to perform cultural dances, and educate others about their beliefs. The Pow Wow had many booths on the outside that sold many different but relevant goods, such as: natural medicines, jewelry, animal skin, instruments, art and music. I found it fascinating that some native americans still lived in their tribes within their home village on the reservation. Their culture is very different and many different social determinants of health affect their population. Their ethnocentric beliefs are so different compared to the western culture, not only in natural medicine and
If it wasn’t for the internet and people spreading art all over it, I personally wouldn’t know of any art at all. I’m not one to go out to an art museum for fun, don’t get me wrong I enjoy art just not that much. I wouldn’t go out of my way to go see a piece of art, that’s where the internet and social media come in. While cruising the interne...
The festival I have picked to do is the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C. I thought this festival was interesting because it is not just an average festival with delicious food, live music and countless family and friend activities, but a festival to celebrate and honor a friendship between two countries. I think that this is a festival everyone should go and see at least once in their life.
When I was a child I used to be frightened of entering such a place for it seemed so imposing and somewhat dangerous, especially when music was being played. One day, in order to keep a promise I had made, I saw myself forced to enter. It took me quite a while to get the courage to pass through the old oak door, but the moment I stepped in, I realized just how enchanting and breathtaking this building could be. Its fantastic architecture and exquisite frescoes reflect perfectly the unity between this earth and the unseen kingdom of angels in such a manner that one cannot say where one ends and the other begins. The way in which the church was built is also the vivid testimony of a medieval period. Although it is a place that can sometimes be cold and ask for respect it is where prayers are answered and magic is done. An overwhelming feeling of inner harmony takes over you once you enter and God seems much closer. Darkness and light are welded perfectly together creating Redemption’s house. The tower allows you to see the entire town from the smallest river to the biggest building site, offering you its mightiness.
There are a lot of different cultures in the world we live in today. Finding the place you belong and discovering your own culture can be a challenge. This is especially true when you look at culture as an individual versus culture in your family, or even within your community. I’ve always been very family oriented, so that plays a big part in who I am and how my family’s dynamic works. I believe that my family has had a huge impact on the development of my culture, and I hope that I have had the same impact on theirs.
