Teaching and tutoring experience
I joined the specialist paediatric osteopathic practice (SPOP), clinical tutoring team at its inception in 2015. I believe I have been an effective and active participant making positive contributions, to this new team this has involved suggesting and writing tutorials both individually and sometimes with colleagues. I have become adept at adapting or changing these at short notice when the needs of the student or situation required this
Generally organised and flexible in my approach to clinical tutoring, I have managed the occasional clinical emergency or child protection issues in a sensitive, calm and respectful manner, while supporting students ' learning and managing supporting them through the aftermath. I sometimes work as a solo tutor or within a team and feel confident to do both. I feel that I make a positive additional contribution to the course, for example, we rotate in teaching blocks so there are several weeks between student contact, which means staff can be unaware of changes in students needs or circumstances. I devised as a trial an action plan form with each student to address this a problem, they were able to record how they were developing and to

Had the opportunity to observe and work with surgeons, pain specialists and allied health professionals in both outpatient clinics and in theatre. I also gained valuable experience of working within hospital settings as part of my postgraduate paediatric training. I asked if it would be possible to attend in house staff tutorials and patient update meetings, which was a fascinating insight into how NHS medical teams manage patients, support each other and train junior member of staff. After some time I was invited to contribute I would be very interested in sharing these experiences and knowledge, and if the opportunity arose exploring this
In the beginning of my senior year I was eager to expand my understanding of how it would be to work in a hospital. An opportunity arose allowing me to volunteer in the hospital at the University of Chicago. I was able to volunteer at the children's playroom, which consisted of a weekly commitment. The daily tasks I had to perform where to enlighten the spirits of children and reduce the amount of anxiety that developed within them when they approached a hospital visit. I would play games, read books, or just company the patients at their bedside. I especially love to interact with the younger patients because their laughter and innocence warms my heart up.
...ths and weaknesses in order to, improve my practice in the role of supporting children and young people. My learning can have a positive impact on future practice as it enhances the quality of children and young people’s health, safety and well-being.
In conclusion, Leonard, M et al (2004) point out that The complexities of patient care, coupled with the inherent limitations of human performance, make it critically important that the multi-disciplinary teams have standardised communication tools. looking back over Mrs X’s journey along this pathway. It was unquestionably the exemplary teamwork and communication, that were so fundamental in providing the holistic care that Mrs X needed. The responsibility and roles of the multi-disciplinary team were varied and often overlapped within the theatre suite. The team members had differing and varying levels of experience and expertise, but combined these when working together to care for Mrs X.
This was a great experience for me in my junior year. I had never been in an OR setting, nor did I have any knowledge of how the collaborative team worked together. I also didn’t know the role of an OR nurse, which was a great addition to my education of nursing student. Being able to observe this task, I can now say that I have watched two surgical procedures being done, which is very critical in my career path as a nurse. Now that I have had the chance to watch these procedures, an OR nurse is a position that I may consider my future, as a nurse.
I had known for years that I wanted to work in the health care field, but I always believed it would be as a doctor. I watched for the first few years of my brother’s life as he struggled with different health challenges such as being born premature, having croup and breathing difficulty, and speech impairment. Watching my brother struggle and then being able to overcome these difficulties, as well as seeing other children around him who were not as fortunate, really pushed me even at a young age to make a difference. My family, both immediate and extended, were very supportive, and I felt a real positive push towards working hard to achieve that goal of working in health care. In high school, I was fortunate enough to do a cooperative placement at the Peterborough Regional Health Center’s Intensive Care Unit. Through observing rounds and being in the medical setting, I truly knew this is where I wanted to
In this experience, the nurses and doctors had a close relationship with each patient even though it was only for a short period of time. It was wonderful to see that all of the health care members of this team addressed the concerns of their patients making sure they were value and cared for. I enjoyed witnessing that at RCH in the pre-op area nurses will reach out to the patients by showing them that they are not just work, but people who matter to them and are not a simple schedule procedure they need to evaluate.
Cooperative students will become future leaders in the initiation of faculty development. They will demonstrate ideas and alertness of the encounters that may occur. Quality development of safety and communication among the staff and patients are improved when staff members have a supportive relationship with their clinical partners. Good communication will lessen errors in the system.
Accountability is an aspect of professionalism that ought to be embraced by not only qualified physical therapist, but also professional students aspiring to become physical therapists. Accountability in my day-to-day life as a student involves being able to accept and take up the responsibility of studentship and being liable to myself about the process of learning. I have a strong want to understand the principles of physical therapy that guide its practice in life through the daily lectures and clinical rotations; I believe that this is an indication of accountability and responsibility. Identifying my weaknesses which hinder and slow down the learning process and so addressing them so that they do not affect my performance puts me on the right track towards shaping a successful career. Professionalism also involves finding a suitable peer study group that is not only critical in boosting academic performance, but also habit reflection and development of suitable learning
This experience will definitely influence my future practice; my action plan would be using those teaching strategies in preparing students to face the clinical environment, to ensure optimal patients’ health outcomes and it helps to build a competent and independent clinician.
In this instance, I will reflect on how the incident aided my learning. I will also look at how effectively I educated the patient.
I enjoyed all the aspects of developing a course on clinical supervision. I appreciated that the process of developing the course was broken down to manageable units.
This experience as a whole provided me with the opportunity to show my professional quality as an educator, a cooperative team member, and a lifelong learner. A few things that I continuously had to reflect on throughout this experience was my self-competence, my performance as well as the children’s, and of course my professional demeanor which directly impacted the effectiveness of my planning, teaching and...
I went to the operating room on March 23, 2016 for the Wilkes Community College Nursing Class of 2017 for observation. Another student and I were assigned to this unit from 7:30am-2:00pm. When we got their we changed into the operating room scrubs, placed a bonnet on our heads and placed booties over our shoes. I got to observe three different surgeries, two laparoscopic shoulder surgeries and one ankle surgery. While cleaning the surgical room for the next surgery, I got to communicate with the nurses and surgical team they explained the flow and equipment that was used in the operating room.
I also designed a participation and an attention getter plan. Additionally, his recommendations served me to not only self-reflect on his concern but also to analyze my practice as a whole. That made me realize that I was losing a lot of time providing one to one feedback to my students, and handing and collection homework. Therefore, I restructured my lessons where feedback will be provided while an activity takes place, the homework will be put right on my desk so I do not have to go around collecting it and three students will hand it
Teachers face with a lot of daily choice problems, such as, how classrooms and curriculums should be organized, how students' behaviors should be interpreted, how learning time can be protected, and others. Sometimes these problems seem to be so ordinary that, teacher need to solve the problem automatically. But in the teaching process there are also complicated choices about difficult problems that, if left unaddressed, often increasing. These difficult choices call for teachers to engage in sophisticated reflection (including self-reflection).
