Some of you may or may not know, but I’ve decided to go on the North Carolina short-term missions trip this summer with CCPC. Since last summer, I’ve wanted to go on a missions trip and I’ve seen these trips change people and their walk with God. God has been working through my heart for the past year to do something that is out of my comfort zone in a way that I’d be able to serve others. Even though going to North Carolina isn’t the biggest mission, it’s a step closer to experience how God can work through me.I want to be able to serve God in other parts of the country that I barely know of and aren’t in the same type of community as we are in D.C. I’m not sure of what I’ll get out of this trip, but my main goal is to see God working through us to be more like Him. …show more content…
This year, our church’s short-term missions team is going to Haywood County in North Carolina.
This is my first time visiting the state, and I thought it would be cool being able to serve in a place near home but so different community-wise. Our missions teams is leaving for Carolina on July 17th and returning on the 22nd with a group of 14 youth students and two adult leaders. I’m going on this short-term mission with my home church, Christ Central Presbyterian Church. Our missions team will be constructing/repairing homes and buildings, running day camps, and working with local churches. Additionally, we will visit various ministries, including non-profit ministries (for example, “Meals on Wheels” and “Habitat for Humanity”) and prison ministries (working with the Haywood County
Prisons). I am sending this letter not only to inform you about this trip but I’m also asking for prayers and financial support. Please pray for us that we will do well financially and spiritually, that we would trust God through everything we may have to overcome/work with. We’ll also need prayers for our health, travel, and safety. We’re hoping to stay healthy and safe while we work in North Carolina to do the most we can. Most importantly, please pray for us that everyone around us will see our need for Christ and to really understand His word. We want this trip to open the eyes to the ones we serve as well as ourselves. If you want trip updates and prayer requests, email ccpcstm@gmail.com mentioning “Maddie Choi” and “Carolina Mountain Mission” and your interest in being one of our prayer partners. Additionally if you would like to support us financially, please send a check (payable: ‘CCPC’ with ‘2018 Short-Term Missions Fund’ in the memo line) to Christ Central Presbyterian Church 15451 Lee Highway Centreville, VA 21021. You’ll be receiving a tax-deductible receipt/letter. Thank you for taking the time to read this letter, your prayers and help will really benefit our group and everyone in Haywood County.
It was back in the summer of 2004 when all was calm. The trees filled w/ dry green leaves, the grass barely green as patches of yellowness overcame its dried burned look, dandelions arose in monstrous amounts as the white cotton-like blooms of a dandelion flutter in the midst of an arid breeze, and visions of heat waves could clearly be noticed along a paved street on a clear afternoon. Yep, this truly was mid summer. But I do prefer summer over winter any day of the year. Around the hottest time of the year, a.k.a. middle of July, my church travels on a mission trip over to the Appalachia Mountains to help people in poverty rebuild their homes. I, among 14 other youths and leaders enjoy this yearly mission trip. Only to leave one week after my birthday the ASP (Appalachia Service Project) crew fled the town of Glen Ellyn and headed east towards the mountainous Appalachia Mountains. The mission had not only been to help people in distress but to also give an insight on personal faith, life, love, friendship, and a better understanding on why we are really here and why we have chosen to come here, as certain personality traits that we possess are revealed throughout the trip. I do remember last year's trip very clearly, and we've had just a few major dilemmas, but this year just clearly out does last year in every way, shape and form.
In my paper I will talk about my visit to The Community Church at Murphy's Landing (CCML). I have chosen this particular Church because it is a family church type and my neighbor goes there and she encouraged me to go with her. I went there with my neighbor on April 6, 2014.This church is an appropriate for this assignment because the people there are welcoming me with an open heart and they are willing to help and provide me with information. When I visit the Church’s site I read these words “We know visiting a new church can be intimidating. But, we want to help you to be as comfortable as possible when and if you join us”. The people gather in the church weekly to glorify God in joyful worship. The expressions of worship on CCML take many forms a prayer, a hymn of reverent awe, a guitar ringing with a chorus of praise, or a warm handshake and a welcoming smile. Their weekly services begin at 9:30 each Sunday at church. Also, they have weekly podcast if anyone wants to listen online. They have many types of services for parents, kids and students. People at CCML were so friendly; they gather around me and start welcoming me, one by one. People there introducing themselves to me, one after another and provide me with their contact information and help. Then we start talking about the church services and Christianity in particular. The mission of CCML was knowing, growing and loving. They seek to live out our mission by worshipping together as a local community of believers, growing in spiritual maturity through discipleship, education, and small groups, caring for one another within the context of the larger church body and small groups, and Communicating the love of Christ to our world, both through local outreach and global mis...
I grew up in a home with a family that attend church weekly and was active in the church family. I knew about God and about His son but I never remember the story of salvation and the personal need for a savoir. As a teenager I walked away from the religion that I thought did not offer my anything. In my thirties, my husband was diagnosed with cancer and I immediately started my negotiations with God. Little did I know that He was not a negotiator but it was during this time in my life that I needed God more than He needed me. Since accepting the gift of God’s love, the salvation of a Savoir, and the renovation of my heart, I look to God for the path of my life. I share Gods truth through my career change to a Christian nob-profit that’s vision is to share God’s love to the community through the platform of pregnancy care and family services. Personally I have fulfilled God’s call to help the less fortunate by adopting a sibling group and participating and supporting mission trips to third world countries to support his children and missions there. My final piece of God’s plan I feel lead to complete is to volunteer my professional expertise and finances to work with a mission group that provides laboratory services to third world mission hospitals. I have done one trip for them and am currently planning a trip to Honduras in the new year. My day to
The museum I chose to visit this week was the North Carolina Museum of History located in Raleigh, North Carolina on March 13, 2014. It was a good time for this assignment because we were traveling this week to North Carolina so it made a great stop for us during our stay. Taking World Cultures has given me a new perspective on the foundation of our history and heritage. North Carolina holds a large amount of history for the United States. It was one of the original 13 colonies and was the first state to declare its independence from the British. North Carolina was known for its slave planation system to cultivate tobacco and cotton to be exported. An exhibit that I found to be interesting at the North Carolina Museum of History was The Story of North Carolina. This museum is the largest exhibit ever produced at the N.C. Museum of History. This exhibit is one that would inspire anyone new or visiting the state to experience the history of North Carolina and to develop more of an appreciation and understanding of the culture and communities.
The North Carolina was founded in 1653 by the virginia colonist. The North Carolina colony was classified as a southern colony. Carolina is derived from the latin name Carolus. During the 1600s they realized its not possible for one governor and one assembly to run Carolina. The major settlements in North Carolina were Cape Fear, Charles Town, and Albemarle. The geographics of the North Carolina area are coastal plains, plateau, and mountain ranges. The climate in the North Carolina colony was not hard to survive until the summer came because the hot humid air in the summer made a rise in disease it was mostly warm all year round besides the winter but then it still isn't hard to survive because it wasn't too cold like it is in alaska or someplace
Unlike the pilgrims looking for freedom to worship the way they wished, or others looking to convert savage Indians to Christianity, some made the journey to America for profit. John Lawson was one of them. Almost on a whim, headed to South Carolina because an associate told him it was great country. After 200 years of voyages to America, much of the land was still unknown. Lawson worked to change that. Upon his arrival, he joined an expedition that travelled by canoe and by foot. He travelled with Indians and scouted locations for settlements, and gathered information on plants and animals, land, and Indians. Lawson was successful in the Carolinas. On a return trip to Europe, he published a book that promoted colonization. Eventually, he established a colony of his own, in North Carolina, populated with a few hundred Swiss and Germans. Just like previous settlers, he unknowingly transported deadly pathogens to the New World. Unfortunately for Lawson, he experienced firsthand what the
King Charles the first founded the Carolinas in 1629 and named the colony after himself. Carolina derives from the Latin word for Charles (Carolus). Originally, the colony was much larger and covered both Carolinas, Georgia, and Tennessee. Immediately, differing ideas and arguments broke out among the leaders of the colony. In 1712, North Carolina seceded from its southern half when the Lords Proprietors made Edward Hyde governor of North Carolina and not all Carolina. It was officially recognized as separate colonies in 1729. Often times, we think of the founders of our country as intelligent and divinely inspired. From the details of the founding of South America, we can see that everything does not go as smoothly as history would like to paint it.
I spent every spring and summer in middle school doing mission work and community service. I loved the opportunity that it gave me to build relationships and share my beliefs with people I didn’t know. Little did I know that this would pave the way for a life-changing experience that I would encounter one day. Each spring my church would host a missionary event called “The Ignite Project.” I felt an urge to join the group, recognizing that it was a calling to profess my faith in Jesus. These mission trips helped me to go out
The establishment of the New England, Middle, and Southern Colonies were the foundation of what we call America. The purpose and mission of founding the New England colonies were different than that of the Jamestown settlers. Prosperity and economics were still part of their mission, however their main goal was to have religious freedom. The geographical features of the New England colonies included rocky coastlines with rich soil. The rich soil was the perfect ground for planting all of their crops, such as wheat, corn, rye, beans, and potatoes. These crops were their main source of economic growth. The closeness to the ocean, which had a sustained food supply, allowed them to fish for food.
My vision is to assist youth in becoming Christlike disciples who love and obey God and mentor and empower others. The philosophy I wish to develop for Youth Ministry is a holistic approach. There is a need for youths to know that God loves them and that only through a personal relationship with him, they can experience the full extent of His love.
A few summers ago, I went on a trip with my family to my cousin’s wedding in North Carolina. We ended up driving there and on the way we stopped in Washington D.C. We spent a few nights there, visiting all the monuments and enjoying all the experiences and opportunities the city had to offer. For most of my life, I had always pictured myself living a life much similar to that of my parents; going to college and then moving to New York City to get a job. However, I never felt comfortable whenever we visited New York and I could never picture myself living there. After many trips into New York City, I realized that I had no interest in living there after college and those experiences resulted in me thinking that big cities were not meant for
The place where I would like to call me second home is located all the way down in Savanna Georgia. I can remember way back about nine years ago in the summer of 2008. The plane ride was a long and hot, and I spent the whole ride playing on my PSP. When I got off the plane I remembered walking through the freezing cold Savanna International Airport seeing all the flags of different countries hanging from the ceiling, but then taking one step out of the airport front doors looking for the car services that was rented and feeling the crushing 100°F heat and deathly humidity. But it is all worth the painful heat to spend time in the beautiful city.
...rvice. After three more WorldChangers trips, this passion to be a servant to others has grown to have a deep effect on my work ethic, influencing me to do the best job I can when helping others in order to show God’s love to the fullest. As John Hope Franklin claimed, “I would use my energies to make me a better person.” With the wisdom acquired from experiences like WorldChangers and from fellow brothers-in-Christ like various youth pastors, I’ve gained a purpose behind the efforts put into my hard work.
While volunteering at Fallbrook Church I have been guided, nurtured, and challenged through the process. I have been able to utilize skills acquired throughout this year that enhance my volunteer service. The foundation is rooted in fellowship, classroom, and weekly Reach Out services for the community. The foundation for the church is community service; my pastor has set forth and shared vision of supporting one another through community service; this is seen through repeated efforts to support Community functions, Computer, Computer Education, Community Resources.
Since my career has me traveling all the time, I have access to plenty of places and even more people. Because of this, God has given me the opportunity to demonstrate His work in my life. By being faithful, loving, generous, kind, compassionate, and accepting, I exemplify God’s purpose for His creation. My hope is that others will see and appreciate my poise and chose to act similarly. In this way, I am hoping to create a domino effect such that I impact at least one person’s life in a positive way, so much so that they will do the same. This is one of the ways in which I enjoy participating in God’s redemption
