Honestly, before I took this class I had no clue on the restraint on structure that can possibly affect the architecture. I always looked up at tall buildings and tried to understand how they really stood up. It was no mystery on how the transfer loads worked and the importance of the column design. Most column placings in a building are not randomly places they mainly follow a grid. I Know last year this helped me out with my design in studio and my design while studying abroad. Something I found extremely useful during class and assignments was the awesome free body diagrams! I finally understood what they were for and I knew how to draw structural components like beams in sections. I know often while we studied as a group we found ourselves
In addition to this, I feel that my Team building class gave me good insight into the inner workings and mechanics of how teams work. More work.

In her book “The Tall Building Artistically Reconsidered”, architecture critic Ada Louise Huxtable discusses the skyscraper. Huxtable composed a response to Louis Sullivan’s manifesto, “The Tall Office Building Artistically Considered”, which was composed in 1896. In his manifesto, Sullivan states, “It is the pervading law of all … true manifestations of the head, of the heart, of the soul, that the life is recognizable in its expression, that form ever follows function. This is the law.” Sullivan argued that a building’s exterior should reflect the interior functions. The problem with the skyscraper is not a technical one, but an artistic one. Huxtable’s view on the form and function of the skyscraper successfully follows Sullivan’s beliefs.

...Some of the concepts we have had to learn include drawing the different elements in a bohr rutherford diagram, balancing chemical equations, types of chemical reactions, and the different types of acids and bases. Overall there were many other things in the unit that were very eye-opening as well, but these four definately helped me as a student have that ‘ah-ha’ moment, and they have definitely helped me learn about chemistry in a more in-depth way, appreciate chemistry and the science behind it a lot more, as well as teaching me something very new things such as how to neutralize Hydrochloric Acid inside of your stomach when it starts to pain. Learning these concepts in the classroom has really opened my eyes to the world in which we live in today, and now personally I will forever hold these memories and knowledge in my mind for when I really need it in my life.
Using videos in the classroom provides multiple avenues for learning. Not only do students learn by seeing, but this also helped students develop auditory skills to be able to listen. Because visual learners learn by seeing, I can use maps to help students better understand concepts in social studies or history. Seeing where the pioneers traveled as well as talking about the climate and harsh conditions will allow the students to make sense of how the people had to survive. Another way I can utilize my talents are making posters with eye-catching cartoon characters. This will provide an opportunity for me to be creative and draw, but also make the subjects more appealing for when the posters are hung in the classroom. Graphs will prove to be helpful in math because I can do an experience, but also mark the results using a chart to provide a visual. This will also provide lessons in visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning. Graphic organizers will be used a lot to compare and contrast two stories. This will make it easier to see the differences and similarities. Using my graphic organizer as an example, students have an example of what their work should
Out of everything that we 've learned this quarter, goal setting was something that stood out to me. There are a few times where I set a goal in my head but end up never achieving them, wether it was something very simple or more of a long term goal. A technique that stood out to me in our notes is, writing down your goals. I don 't I 've ever written down a single goal that I 've had. In class and in our notes we talked about how it is important to write down your goals and how you cannot just write the general idea of your goal, but how you need to be very specific in what it is you want to achieve. Some other things that have become evident are that geometric simplicity and symmetry are key to constructing an earthquake resistant building. Simplicity often leads to symmetry, and in turn symmetry tends to decrease the likelihood of a concentration of mass. This idea of lighter buildings being safer can be explained mathematically using the formula F=MA. To understand how this formula works it is pertinent to recognize that earthquakes alone do not cause damage because all they provide is an acceleration.
