Growing up there was always a lot of talk about the Indian Reservations around my home state of Minnesota. I decided I would pick an Indian tribe from the area in which I grew up in hopes I would learn more about them, even though I have not lived in Minnesota for over twenty years. I always found it quite comical when relatives would have to go to an Indian reservation to gamble, it was something I did not understand, especially when I live in Las Vegas and see it everywhere I go. I found the Red Lake Band of Chippewa to be the most interesting to me, mainly because it is the closest tribe and reservation to where I grew up. Red Lake Band of Chippewa is located in the state of Minnesota and is the most populous reservation in the state. The reservation is located about 25 miles north of Bemidji and about a four hour car ride from Duluth, Minnesota. The reservation is located on the largest lake in the state of Minnesota. The Red Lake Band of Chippewa is has four different reservation communities. The first …show more content…
community is Little Rock which is located about five miles down the road and contains a community center. The second community is called Ponemah. It also has a community center, a health clinic, and programs for elders. This community is quite isolated and practices many of the old traditions and cultures. The third community is called Redby which is located five miles east of Red Lake. This reservation contains several tribal programs, including some for adolescences and a rehab center for people with a chemical dependency. And lastly, Red Lake community is the final one within the Red Lake Band of Chippewa reservation. This community is home to the Tribal Government and several other tribal programs. There is a swimming pool, a hospital, elderly care facilities and a Boys and Girls Club. Also on the grounds is an elementary, middle and high school which are all operated by the state of Minnesota. This is also the largest community within the reservation. In order to be a member of the Red Lake Band of Chippewa tribe you just need your original birth certificate, Recognition of Parentage and a completed notarized application. Once that is complete, there is a meeting that is conducted every month and your paperwork goes there and then to the Tribal Council. When doing research, I had a difficult time finding out even a rough estimate of how many people are currently enrolled into the Red Lake Band of Chippewa tribe. Every website tends to say something different and depending on how outdated the site is, I am unsure about how accurate the number is. The official website of the Red Lake Band of Chippewa says current enrollment is 11,422. In 2011, Ojibwe language became the official language of the tribe. The tribal government has full sovereignty over the reservation, subject only to the federal government not the state government.
The state courts or government has no jurisdiction at Red Lake. All the laws are made by the Tribal Council and enforced by the Tribal Council and the Federal Courts. Red Lake is unique because it is considered a "closed" reservation. All the land is held in common by the tribe and there is no private property. Because of this, there are very few non-members that live at Red Lake. The tribe has the right to limit who can visit or live on the reservation. Both men and women alike are able to govern and can hold positions in the Tribal Council. In 1934, Red Lake Band of Chippewa preferred to retain a “clan-based” system of governance so they rejected organization under the Indian Reorganization Act. It was not long until they withdrew from the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe and all other Chippewa nations and began governing
themselves. This was a very interesting and eye-opening subject to learn about. Growing up watching such movies like the animated Pocahontas, I always thought Native Americans, Indians and the whole living on a reservation was much different than it is. I found this tribe to very interesting and learning about how passionate they are about their traditions and cultures is something we all should be passionate about when it comes to the things that are important in our own lives.
The Muckleshoot Indian Tribe has a membership that mostly consists of descendants of the Duwamish and Puyallup people. The tribe also consists of Skopamish, Stkamish, Yilalkoamish, Tkwakwamish, Smulkamish, and the Buklshuhl. They inhabited the Central Puget Sound for many years before the reservation. After the Reservations establishment in 1857,
The mosh is an awesome place in Downtown Jacksonville; where everyone can learn some interesting facts about our city, how the body works , what animals are in the ocean and etc. I visited the Timucua Indian exhibit; I learned a lot of intriguing information that I didn’t know before. I learned how the Timucua Indians first came about, how the Indians lived and survived during this time period. This exhibit also showed me how the Indians looked and the way they did things. Being able to learn about the Timucua Indians is so fascinating to me.

Throughout ancient history, many indigenous tribes and cultures have shown a common trait of being hunter/gatherer societies, relying solely on what nature had to offer. The geographical location influenced all aspects of tribal life including, spirituality, healing philosophy and healing practices. Despite vast differences in the geographical location, reports show various similarities relating to the spirituality, healing philosophy and healing practices of indigenous tribal cultures.
The Quapaw Tribe of Indians, history, culture, values, strength, and perseverance have allowed them to stay united as a tribe and sets them apart from other Indian tribes, although they deserve a better fate. It is my belief, that it is the Quapaw Indians values, strength, and perseverance that have gotten them to where they are today. I am thankful for the Quapaw Tribe and the unification that they have. I have many great memories being raised by a Quapaw man and their traditions and values have stuck with him, as he works hard and never gives up hope, just as the Quapaws did.
There was a period of time, before the appearance of Europeans on the continent, that the Nephilim did not have this “rule” or “compulsion” to keep their existence hidden from humans. The Bigfoot were known to the Native Americans by many names. Legends and lore sprang up from the Native American’s interaction with the Bigfoot. The Native Americans always considered them to be a “society” or “tribe.” The relationship the Bigfoot tribes had with the Native Americans was precarious at best. Many Native American tribes described the Bigfoot as cannibals, mountain devils, kidnappers, rapist, and thieves.
Red Lake, Minnesota is an Ojibwa place-name. The area dates back 9000 yeas ago when the Stone Age peoples first inhabited the region that is now known as northwestern Ontario. These aboriginals were indigenous people familiar with the properties of the surrounding plants and wild animals. They lived along the waterways and treated their environment with respect and celebrated its bounties through their spirituality. (Web Site #1)
...higan, they are The Little River Band of Ottawa Indians. The Little River Band is full and rich in culture. Some people don’t acknowledge the Ottawa tribe here in Manistee Michigan, or really even know who they are or how they feel. I feel as though that the Ottawa tribe has a huge positive impact on Michigan’s history. Thereby, I have written this essay to discuss and reveal the culture and the day-to-day of the Ottawa tribe with observations, interviews and research.

...ssentially they are their own country. In order for the tribe to have the tools necessary to maximize FEMA in case of an emergency, training must be provided on the reservations. The nuiances of each reservation can be addressed as well as the risks. Tribes would then be able to provide its members with the a better chance for a speedy recovery process.
Throughout the history of Canada the indigenous population of the country have been voiceless. They have been both suppressed and oppressed by the Federal and various Provincial governments within Canada. Many organizations tried to provide a voice for the native population but failed in their attempt. These organizations eventually merged together to become what is now known as The Assembly of First Nations. The Assembly of First Nations gives voice to the issues and problems facing the different components of the aboriginal community in Canada.

Cultural competence is a skill essential to acquire for healthcare providers, especially nurses. Cooperating effectively and understanding individuals with different backgrounds and traditions enhances the quality of health care provided by hospitals and other medical facilities. One of the many cultures that nurses and other health care providers encounter is the American Indian or Native American culture. There are hundreds of different American Indian Tribes, but their beliefs and values only differ slightly. The culture itself embodies nature. To American Indians, “The Earth is considered to be a living organism- the body of a higher individual, with a will and desire to be well. The Earth is periodically healthy and less healthy, just as human beings are” (Spector, 2009, p. 208). This is why their way of healing and symbolic items are holistic and from nature.

The Native American people have a long standing history in the United States. One tribe is the Menominee Indians. Located in Wisconsin and Upper East Michigan The Menominee Indians acquired approximately 10 million acres of land by the start of the 1800s. Although they occupied much land, throughout a series of seven treaties the Menominee people watched their 10 million acre land base whittle down to a small, 235,000 acres. Today, the Menominee Indian Reservation is located 45 miles west of Green Bay Wisconsin inside the Village of Keshena. The reservation is home to 8,551 tribe members, 405 unfinished and finished roads, 187 rivers, and 53 lakes. The land where the Menominee reservation resides known for its wood, stone, and copper.
