The music video for the song “Dani California” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers migrates through various eras of rock and roll, all of which have influenced the musical sound of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It begins with rockabilly and follows rock history through to 90’s grunge with the members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers dressed as iconic bands from each rock and roll era. Although some of the artists they dress as are difficult to recognize, the Red Hot Chili Peppers successfully portray the message that many rock and roll sub-genres have contributed to the Red Hot Chili Peppers sound. The music video begins with a black and white curtain opening to reveal the Red Hot Chili Peppers dressed in Elvis-esque attire rocking their hips in the way of The King. The Red Hot Chili Peppers successfully convey the message that rockabilly contributed to their overall sound with their Elvis impersonation because The King of Rock and Roll is the face of rockabilly music. The notion that rockabilly has contributed to the Chili Peppers sound is obvious in the chorus of their song “Around The World” when lead singer Anthony Kiedis croons the phrase, “I know I know for sure that life is beautiful around the world. I know I know it's you. You say hello and then I say ‘I do’”. This reference to beauty and love at first sight is characteristic of rockabilly …show more content…

However, the reason it is important to rock history is because it brought America’s attention to the once before underground style of grunge. “A driving drum beat, powered by Novelsek’s rhythmic bass, and a memorable guitar riff and solo, mix perfectly with Kurt Cobain’s depressing yet humorous lyrics” (Kastner, Patrick). While it has certainly been overplayed in the past years, it is still an essential part of Rock history.

In “Im OK” there are no heavy guitar parts its a completely different feel; once the music starts you just hear slow finger picking of the guitar. When Aguilera sings she has a short voice compared to the hard rock sound in “A Child Called ‘it.” In Buckcherry’s song after the strong intro the guitars quite down, the song switches the focus on singer singing, “I count the days and nights they are all numbered she takes the pain out on me and not my brothers.” The artist wants you to understand want is happening, the child has been singed out from his siblings and is being stuck and abused by his mother. After that he sings, “ keep it all inside, never see me cry,” the child is trying to be tough and doesn't want the mother to see that she is hurting him. As the singer sings this you can hear another voice behind the music yelling the something, they want to show the anger and the pain the child is feeling for this
