After two years of recreational diving I have learned some of the ins and outs of the dive community. Diving has become such an enjoyable experience for me that I have decided to make a career change and work towards my dream of being a commercial diver. Before making such a life altering decision, it is important to understand the differences between the two in order to further understand the depth of my decision. In this essay, I will compare portions of recreational diving to its equivalent in technical diving. I will discuss equipment, locations and careers associated with each to assist in better understanding their differences.
In recreational scuba diving there is a laundry list of available equipment to fit nearly every underwater need. One of the most important pieces of equipment a recreational diver uses is the BCD or buoyancy control device. The BCD is an adjustable inflation vest worn by a diver to increase or decrease their buoyancy during a dive. The BCD is hooked to the regulator or “Octopus” which serves as a junction point for air accessories. The BCD usually comes complete with safety features like an emergency dump valve. Safety features like these help to prevent BCD malfunctions, such as runaway accents, by allowing the diver to release the air out of the vest. Attached to the regulator along with the BCD are air pressure gauges and two breathing apparatuses. One breathing apparatus is used for normal breathing function and the other is set in a known location in the case of an emergency or disorientation. Recreational divers also have a choice between wearing a neoprene wet suit, which keeps a diver warm by retaining a layer of water next to the body, or dry suits that use a layer of air for buoy...

Throughout this essay we have had a chance to look at the two major types of underwater diving. We have a better understanding of the differences in the equipment used, the locations that each may be performed, and the career opportunities available to a person with the proper credentials.

Archaeology is a continuously evolving field where there is a constant stream of new branches and excavation methods. Due to the influx of new technologies and innovations in recent decades, archaeologists have been able to excavate previously inaccessible areas. For example, new diving equipment and tools such as proton magnetometers, side-scan sonar, sub-bottom profiler, and miniature submarines have allowed archaeologists to dive into the deep depths of the ocean. As a result, the branch of underwater archaeology was created to search for shipwrecks and other artifacts on the ocean floor. Underwater archaeology’s role has increased in recent years as it allows archaeologists to more accurately interpret the past by supplementing information gained through traditional land excavations.

The First five weeks the student’s learn life saving, knot tying, underwater knot tying, basic first aid, and surf passages in small inflatable boats. Along with this is a 50-yard underwater swim, which must be completed and the students are often revived when they pass out. Also throughout out the whole six months of BUD/S (Basic Underwater Demolition School), the Seal Teams go through many torturous events and lessons. One of these being surf torture. This is where the entire class must wade into the surf zone to their waistline, then sit down with arms linked. Just to let you know the water in Coronado, California never gets above sixty-eight degrees during the summer and fifty-eight degrees during the winter. There the men with linked arms will sit there for hours at a time, soon the cold sucks out all of their body warmth and the whole class is shivering in unison as the waves crash over there heads.
Review: The opportunity and endeavor of exploring the Earth’s oceans can reap great rewards for mankind and unravel many of the mysteries that the Earth has left to discover.
In our lifetime, the ocean has remained untamed and unexplored. “Modern Day” technology has only been able to come so far in venturing out to sea and to the world below the surface. However, in the past 10 years this has all been changed. With research being done throughout the world studying the movement and anatomy of fish, the gap between the surface and the sea floor could be speedily lessening. For years humans have marveled at the speed and grace of most marine life. The lack of drag, the force propulsion, and the ability to live at such impossible depths have been forever the envy of submarines and sea explorers. After years of observing these incredible functions, researchers are finally beginning to mimic and apply these characteristics to marine technology. These robo-fish hold the potential to make underwater exploration far more accessible, safer, and more efficient due to their naturalistic design.

This force now can be used by the diver not only to go up, but to rotate and therefore perform various dives.

Allows divers to dive deeper and stay submerged longer. Scuba comes a long way from other forms of diving by using an air-tank and regulator. This is what allows them to stay under longer and dive deeper. Scuba originally began with military and commercial applications, where it is still used today. But now, by far the largest group of divers is “Recreational Divers”. These dives are practiced at depths of less than 130 feet, from these depths, divers can make a straight ascent to the surface. Diving beyond this limit requires advanced training. (Lawrence, 4)
Obviously, there are dangers when you are threading underwater, and scuba diving is a very complicated task. To begin with, you have to go through a long training course, buy many different pricey gear and learn how to put them on, and also you have to be cautious of the currents and the water before you dive.
I am very passionate about diving. I have been diving for only four years, but each day I fall more in love with the sport. The sport is both thrilling and elegant at the same time. I can talk for hours about diving. So few people know about and really understand the sport in the same way that an athlete, like myself, does.
Snorkeling is one of the most common underwater activities now base on most people can go snorkeling which has lesser requirements than other underwater activities. The equipment of snorkeling are only a diving tube, a set of flippers and a mask. The people of people snorkeling was that people tried to collect some
