An interesting quote by Reba McEntire states, “To succeed in life, you need three things: a wishbone, a backbone, and a funny bone.” This means that one needs luck, courage, and humor in order to succeed. Life can prove to be very challenging unless someone has these qualities. McEntire suggests that luck is important to have in life to succeed. Luck is an interesting concept. It is based on chance and determines whether someone succeeds or fails (oxforddictionaries.com). Luck, however, is simply an idea and cannot be explained nor proven. In the sense that luck is what we should call the chance that something should prevail is understandable. It would be less sensible to present luck as something such as a force. Nevertheless,
Although modern science has allowed us to develop many complex medicines, laughter is still the strongest one available in the real world and in the book. Laughter proves to be a strong medicine in more ways than one and is completely free, allowing anyone to use it at anytime. It allows us to connect socially with people, it can be used as a way of overthrowing power, and it is good for your health. As Randle McMurphy showed in the novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, laughter can lighten the mood in the darkest situations.
Firstly, everyone faces hardship in life, some are greater than others. The hardship in life that one faces could be illness, for example. Alexie uses humor in the short fiction as a solution to coping with tragedies. Humour was an antiseptic that cleaned the deepest of personal wounds.” Jimmy said (2008).
Psychologists, sociologists and anthropologists study humor because it is a fundamental culture value, but they still can’t determine why certain things make some people laugh and others not. There are “humor quotient” tests that are designed to measure an individual’s sense of humor, but these tests are questionable. These tests aren’t accurate because almost all humor depends on cultural background knowledge and language skills. Not every person in the whole world, or even in one country share the same background knowledge and skills, therefore they cannot have the same type of humor. “The fact remains that individuals vary in their appreciation of humor” (Rappoport 9). Since humor varies from individual to individual, humor lies in the individual. How successful or funny a joke is depends on how the person receives the joke, humor cannot be measured by a statistical
Born February 9, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York as Carole Klein, she was playing the piano by the age of four. While still in high school she was in her first band, the Co-Sines. Carole was a huge fan of Jerry Lieber and Mike Stoller (the duo who penned hits for Elvis Presley, the Coasters and Ben E. King), she became a regular at DJ Alan Freed's local Rock 'N' Roll shows. She met songwriters Paul Simon and Neil Sedaka as well as Gerry Goffin, whom she later forged a writing partnership with, while attending Queens College.

It is said in The Bible that God has given Man 'free will.' Unfortunately for Man, The Bible does not entail exactly what 'free will' is. Some speculate that there is a force called Chance. These people believe that through a serious of coincidence, luck, and their own choices, they can control their future. Others believe in a force known as Fate. With this line of thinking, everything has a goal, and those goals will be met eventually. This gives the believer a sense of inevitability and they tend to be more laid back due to the philosophy of least resistance. Least resistance is the idea of 'it's going to happen anyway, so there?'s no real point in pushing back.' In Pushkin's 'Queen of Spades', chance and fate seem to endlessly intertwine themselves to the point where there appears to be a third force somewhat dictating their actions. In some instances, the lives of the characters seem to be going in a set path (Fate). At other instances, it appears as if had this not just happened to happen at this point in time, this person's life wouldn't have been affected in this way (Chance). Are Fate and Chance separate forces, or puppets on the strings of another power' Chances are, they're one in the same.
The spectrum of therapeutic techniques available within the health care continuum is very complex and varied. From traditional medicine, to holistic remedies, and anything in between, nurses have a rather large arsenal at their disposal when it comes to treating the patients that are under their care. Humor as an alternative therapy has long been understood as a proven means to aid in the recovery process. “With so much power to heal and renew, the ability to laugh easily and frequently is a tremendous resource for surmounting problems, enhancing your relationships, and supporting both physical and emotional health” (Smith & Segal, 2015). The purpose of this paper is to discuss situations in which humor would be a viable alternative therapy

Life is an ever changing environment, constantly evolving into a bigger and better world. While some people may be stuck in what feels like the old days, most of the generation today have no idea how extremely fortunate they are. To convey the similarities and differences between Brenda and Christina, I’m going to compare and contrast life luxuries, food, and hobbies from the 50’s to today.
In Eudemian Ethics, Aristotle explains, “…men are fortunate, namely those who generally succeed without the aid of reason.” Reason motivates rationality; therefore fortune is achieved without the means of wisdom due to its rational aspect. On the subject of logic, there isn’t a scientific explanation for our success. If there were ways to control fortune step-by-step, we would have used this knowledge by creating lessons and teaching others about it. As there is no reason managing our situation, abnormal factors can contribute to our good fortune: “…there are fortunate men we see, who though foolish are often successful in matters controlled by fortune” (Aristotle, 1247a 4-5). For example, there was the famous genius Albert Einstein. He was a brilliant physicist who constructed important theories, but he had his flaws. Not only was Einstein known to be socially awkward with his absent-minded behavior, he grew up with a speech impediment and failed his university entrance exam.
Good luck is obtained from belief in a good outcome of an event; many justify the outcome with certain symbols, charms, animals, forces in nature, or rituals. Once a user recognizes the positive energy of a lucky symbol, they allow the object to release its potential to do well, by diminishing negative influences. Although there is no definitive explanation of the manner in which good luck symbols work, the faith placed in them by their users is what powers them.
Never forget to laugh. "If you can laugh at it, you can survive it" (Cosby). Life is difficult for everyone. It is how people deal with these strives and struggle is what matters. Sometimes, the best way to get a break from the hardships of life is to simply laugh with friends and family. It’s a Balance process. Some people can be caught up in life’s problems and forget to laugh. Laughter is the mental medicine for life. Laughter supports the health of the body. Laughter can break up the quietness in a room. Laughter can change the room from black and white to a rainbow of colors. Laughter is a result of looking at something in a positive light. Is the glass half empty or half full? Whatever the circumstance, never underestimate the power of a good giggle. Never forget to laugh.
Everyone hopes for the best in what he or she might want to do. It might seem insane for a person to believe in something that will possibly change the outcome in the future, but these little things create more confidence. This confidence triggers certain responses in the brain and body that helps a person meet a certain goal. These little things include wearing a special and meaningful bracelet for a big event, or jumping up and down only three times before a big basketball game. To one person, actions like such may seem meaningless, but to another person, these behaviors bring luck. Dr. Vyse once stated and believes, “‘If you perform some action that can’t possibly affect the outcome in any real sense, you have a feeling
If there is one way to bring a smile to someone’s face, it is laughter. Funny jokes, comical stunts, sarcasm- Every person is different when it comes to what makes them laugh. Some find dry humor comical. Others think sarcasm or joke-filled ranting are the best. ‘Comedy’ is such a broad term, broad enough to allow everyone to find something they find comical. In fact, ‘comedy’ includes a specific type of drama, one where the protagonist is joyful and happy endings are expected. Comedy is like a drug; it allows you to escape reality. When we say the word ‘comedy’ in the present, we are generally referring to a type of performance which provides humor. However, in its broadest sense, comedy has only one purpose: comedy makes people smile and
Most of us have a tendency to regard a clever sense of humor as the distinction of a person who is good hearted and friendly, someone people feel at ease with. They are "life of the party" we always invite and the co-worker who always has a joke. Everyone has the jocular family member that they always look forward to seeing. We remember the kid in school that always made the class break into laughter. Humor is never forgotten when we reminisce and it is just as amusing as it was the first time.
