Reading Response II – 1 Epistle of Peter
The author Peter admits himself as the apostle of God. He is writing to the Gentiles Christians in hostile pagan land to keep their hope on Jesus Christ’s promises and to live a holy life before God despite mounting persecution and various trials. His letter reflects the history and terminology of the Gospel and Acts which is notably Peter’s speeches. Themes and concepts reflect Peter’s experiences and his associations in the period of our Lord’s ministry in the apostolic age.
The body of his letter could be summarized and divided into three categories:
i. Living the newness of life initiated in salvation. ii. The orderly of relationships for Christian sojourners. iii. Enduring the extent of suffering

After Jesus Christ informs the disciples about the end of the age (Matt. 24) He gives them the charge or command of the Great Commission (Matt. 28:18-20 and this was the very last thing that Jesus told them (Acts 1:8). Thus from that point on the disciples (followers of Christ) become the apostles (those sent forth). The designation of their being apostles was never used until after the Ascension of Christ (Acts 1) because before then, they were still following Jesus. After Christ had ascended to the right hand of the Father and was seated there He sent them forth to go to all ends of the earth to proclaim the gospel of the Kingdom of …show more content…
According to the Church Historian Tertullian, Origen and Eusebius state that Peter was stretched out by his hands, he was dressed in prison attire and was taken where no one wanted to go (a crucifixion), and was crucified. Peter was said to be crucified upside down because he felt unworthy to be crucified in the way that the Lord Jesus Christ had been.
From an arrogant man of thunder, he became a humble, willing, obedient servant of the Lord even to death. He rejoiced in the day of his death, knowing that he would be reunited with his beloved Savior.
In conclusion, Wellman, J states that in the Old Testament, no one could even be a priest until they were thirty years of age. David became king at age thirty and this age is near the peak of mental and physical abilities. Peter will be one of the only 12 apostles that will rule with Jesus Christ in the Kingdom of Heaven. The lowly fisherman became a mighty fisher of men – and one that changed and shaped the world forever and is still proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ through his gospel as written by Mark, the book of Acts, and through the Epistles of I and II Peter.
Peter the Great was mainly described as a man who was powerful and violent. In some of the accounts he was described very differently. Bishop Burnet wrote from his experience with Peter, because he had been in the company of him. He experienced Peter’s violent and non–violent side. He also stated that Peter was a very smart man even though he did not show it much. In the writing from Von Korb he tells of the time of the Streltsi revolt. He did not have much of a personal experience with Peter the Great. Based on the writing from Korb he was basically des...
paper. It will be argued that the extent to which those are suffering does, in fact, vary, and that others have continued on with their lives with little to no effect at all.

Disciples take someone as their leader and try to do what they say. It is possible to be a disciple of anybody, but all Christians are disciples of Jesus. An Apostle is a selected disciple. There were only 12, and were chosen by Jesus to be leaders of the other disciples. At the time of Jesus, He had a following of about 300-400 ordinary disciples.

Thesis Statement: Paul gives to the Ephesian church, an example to follow, a warning to heed, and a challenge to practice; in order that they might be equipped by the power of the Holy Spirit and through their faith in Jesus Christ to withstand trials, hardships, and schemes planted by the evil one that will certainly occur because of their faith.
Suffering is an individual's basic affective experience of pain or distress, often as a result of one’s physical, emotional or spiritual circumstance (Stanford Encyclopaedia of Philosophy 2006). Suffering can be classified as physical; for example pain caused by a dislocated knee, emotional; for example one’s grief over the death of a loved one, or spiritual; which is described as the state of being separated from the blissful nature of your divine self (soul). To suffer physically or emotionally is often unavoidable; however it can be argued that spiritual liberation...
When Jesus visited Jerusalem around 29 AD, he found enthusiastic crowds greeting him as the messiah. However he was arrested for not worshiping pagan Roman gods and was sentenced to death on a cross. While he was hanging awaiting death he forgave those who had killed him and those who had worshipped him the day before were denying him. After his crucifixion he was placed in a tomb, on the third day he rose, and greeted his followers, further convincing them that he was the messiah.
Lastly, after Peter's death, he was recognized as having authority over the
Suffering can be defined as an experience of discomfort suffered by a person during his life. The New York Times published an article entitled what suffering does, by David Brooks (2014). In this article, Brooks explains how suffering plays an important role in our pursuit of happiness. He explains firstly that happiness is found through experiences and then, suffering can also be a motivation in our pursuit of happiness. In other words, suffering is a fearful but necessary gift to acquire happiness. This paper is related to motivation and emotion, two keys words to the pursuit of happiness (King, 2010).
This outline of 2 Peter is intended to assist you as you endeavor to study God’s holy Word — His letter to you. When we come to 2 Peter, we come to the most challenged book of Scripture. If there is any book of disputed position in the holy Scriptures, this is it. I want to set out why I accept its authenticity.
...ctions. Peter answered with the Spirit. The power by which the crippled man was healed was that of Jesus of Nazareth. Not only that, but Peter accused the Sanhedrin of responsibility for rejecting and killing Christ. He also noted God’s power in raising Jesus from the dead. Peter’s speech to the Sanhedrin summarizes his other two sermons. Although they were unable to deny the apostolic miracle, the Sanhedrin felt compelled to stop the apostolic preaching. Before the power of God that transformed unschooled, ordinary men into powerful proclaim of the gospel, the Sanhedrin was unable to punish the apostles. This chapter ends with a report of the church’s prayer in gratitude for God’s deliverance of the apostles from the Jewish authorities.
The person has to be open to learning from their suffering in order to grow as a person in today’s society. Without suffering, we would be stuck within ourselves. Suffering allows us to break through our concept of reality and understand the world around
After Jesus’ death and resurrection, these 12 disciples became the apostles that helped to spread Christianity throughout the world. The people in the city of Antioch created the name Christian according to Acts 11:26,”The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch” (NIV). Prior to this, we were just known as followers or disciples of Christ. Put simply the word Christian refers to a follower or disciple of Jesus Christ. It is important to remember that you must accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior to be a true Christian.
The story of King David of the Bible times is well known to both readers and non-readers of the Bible alike. The level of understanding of his personality varies a great deal.
