The protagonist, Rainsford, in the short story “The Most Dangerous Game”, by Richard Connell is characterized to make an effective protagonist. The characteristics that make Rainsford an effective protagonist are how he is brave, intelligent, and a resourceful character. Rainsford is a brave character as he never lets his panic consume him and he learns to calm himself. Rainsford ponders, ‘“I will not lose my nerve.
