Plot Summary: The titular Grinch lives alone in just north of Who-ville and he hates Christmas as much as the Who’s loved it. He sneaks out on Christmas eve and steals all of the Christmas decorations and presents from Who-ville. When he realizes that the citizen of Who-ville are just as happy without their gifts he returns “Christmas” and joins them in celebrating.

Interesting Features: The format of the text is great for reading this story aloud. Some words are written in all capital letters which designate how they should be read out loud. It is also interesting how Dr. Seuss uses only three colors throughout the book.

The illustration the feature the Grinch in his isolation are mostly black and white with bleak images of snow and dark caves. Authors use many different types of imagery in order to better portray their point of view to a reader. This imagery can depict many different things and often enhances the reader’s ability to picture what is occurring in a literary work, and therefore is more able to connect to the writing. An example of imagery used to enhance the quality of a story can be found in Leyvik Yehoash’s poem “Lynching.” In this poem, the imagery that repeatably appears is related to the body of the person who was lynched, and the various ways to describe different parts of his person. The repetition of these description serves as a textual echo, and the variation in description over the course of the poem helps to portray the events that occurred and their importance from the author to the reader. The repeated anatomic imagery and vivid description of various body parts is a textual echo used by Leyvik Yehoash and helps make his poem more powerful and effective for the reader and expand on its message about the hardship for African Americans living
Whether or not you consider Ron Howard's version of Dr Seuss's classic How The Grinch Stole Christmas comical, yet disgraceful, there's no ignoring the little green monster's reign over the box office. The movie, How the Grinch Stole Christmas starring Jim Carrey, was released in November of 2000, reaching a gross high of over $200 million in the U.S alone (The Numbers). However, I feel that this version has over exaggerated the original story, and I will back this up by showing many examples of how Dr. Seuss’s classic turned into a marketing, franchise frenzy.
“ The horizon was the color of milk. Cold and fresh. Poured out among the bodies” (Zusak 175). The device is used in the evidence of the quote by using descriptives words that create a mental image. The text gives the reader that opportunity to use their senses when reading the story. “Somehow, between the sadness and loss, Max Vandenburg, who was now a teenager with hard hands, blackened eyes, and a sore tooth, was also a little disappointed” (Zusak 188). This quote demonstrates how the author uses descriptive words to create a mental image which gives the text more of an appeal to the reader's sense such as vision. “She could see his face now, in the tired light. His mouth was open and his skin was the color of eggshells. Whisker coated his jaw and chin, and his ears were hard and flat. He had a small but misshapen nose” (Zusak 201). The quotes allows the reader to visualize what the characters facial features looked like through the use of descriptive words. Imagery helps bring the story to life and to make the text more exciting. The reader's senses can be used to determine the observations that the author is making about its characters. The literary device changes the text by letting the reader interact with the text by using their observation skills. Rhyme-The last words of line one and line three of each stanza rhyme. The last words of line two and line four of each stanza also rhyme. The rhyming words contribute to the rhythm and flow of the poem.

A Christmas Carol was written by Charles Dickens (1812-1870) and published in 1843. The novel was the first of five in a series of Christmas books that Dickens was commissioned to write. It is thought that several of the darkest episodes in his novels are based on his own personal experiences, for instance when his father spent some months in a debtor’s prison in London.
With her justification, of the Whoville law, that all Whos should be able to attend not because of their outer appearance. As the mayor, Maywho objectifies the crowd believes in what Cindy Lou says. However, the mayor does not want that to happen as argues if he is not here I will accept the award. Cindy Lou was able to break the law of not speaking about or to the Grinch as well as have the people in the town agree to invite him to the celebration. When the Grinch goes mad because of the razor gift he received Cindy Lou and her family were all shamed and looked down upon by everyone in Whoville for what they did and it was their fault for breaking the norm (not inviting the Grinch). Later on, because the Grinch took all the presents the people in the town were able to see the true meaning of Christmas and that is family so in an indirect way the Grinch also broke the norm of just accepting gifts on that day. The Grinch proved that although his appearance and personality were he truly knew what the Charismas spirit was and it wasn’t all about the gifts, lights, or celebrations but family was the key part in it
Some traditional stories are so influential, they are born again in modern-day books. Such as, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Ebenezer Scrooge lives in London in the 1800’s. He is selfish and greedy. His ex-partner comes to visit him as a ghost. He warns him that he will be visited by three spirits: The Ghost of Christmas Past, The Ghost of Christmas Present, and The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. Just like A Christmas Carol, How The Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss, The Grinch is mean. He tries to steal the Who’s, from the imaginary town of Whoville, Christmas spirit and happiness. Cindy Lou Who helps The Grinch become a better person. And of course, The Grinch’s dog, Max, tags along.
and illustrated by Eric Carle. Of course, I am much older than the children in my classroom, but I love this book. When Mrs. Kreider, the head teacher, reads this book, I feel like a little kid again. I say the words silently, as not to distract the children, as if the story is being read to me. The illustrations in the book are great because they use the primary colors, which are one of the first things children should learn at a young age. It uses animals that the children are familiar with. Some of the animals are not the colors that the children will witness if they were to see them in real life, but the author portrays them in a playful and rhythmical way. The pictures help the story to come alive. The children get a true visual image of what the author is saying and are in Ah at the same time. When watching the video of this story, I witnessed Eric Carle draw his pictures first, and then use glue and colorful paper cutouts to finish his drawings for this book. On a tiny snowflake floating through the air, exists the town of Who-ville, home of the Whos. The town is joyously preparing for the coming of Christmas. The opening scene is full of noise and excitement with the townspeople hustling and bustling about shopping for gifts. Cheerful Christmas music plays in the background while the countdown until Christmas Day is announced over the town’s loudspeaker. Bright colors combined with unusual hairstyles are seen on the people of Who-ville. The town itself is covered with a multitude of lights, decorated trees, and wreaths.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966&2000) explains not only the life of the Grinch but the Whos as well. Through the theorists of Karen Horney and Erik Erikson, viewers can learn why the Grinch’s personality is formed. Not only had it formed, but through the years it transformed.
A Christmas Carol is a written in December 1845 by Charles Dickens. This novel was based on the industrial revolution. Dickens shows Scrooge’s transformation going through both love and grief. The Ghost of Christmas past reminded Scrooge of a sense of festivity by showing him his old headmaster Fezziwig; the love in Bob Cratchit’s family made Scrooge analyze his life and it gave him grief; Scrooge had to experience grief, being a sullen old man, just experiencing love wouldn’t be as effective. He also had to experience love to revive his human feeling, his sense of care and empathy. Likewise, Scrooge had to experience fear because he needed to see that his actions affect everybody.
In any discussion of poetry vs. prose worth it's stanzas, questions regarding such tools as meter, rhyme, and format must come into play. These are, after all, the most obvious distinguishing features of poetry, and they must certainly be key in determining the definition, and in fact nature, of poetry.
In the novel When Rain Clouds Gather, by Bessie Head, the protagonist, Makhaya, deals with suffering, trauma and eventual healing, particularly when he arrives in Golema Mmidi. At the same time, the novel deals with problems of tribalism, greed and hate in a postcolonial state. Throughout the novel, Makhaya attempts to resolve these struggles and create a new future for himself.
