Prepossessions Evolved from the Universe Society reveals many truths about life. The universal truth consists of equality and liberty for all races, but the truth does not always seem the most accepting. In the movie Remember the Titans, emotions grow powerful and prejudice emerges when the school board forces the university to amalgamate black and white schools. A racially divided football team develops throughout the movie. Players, as well as coaches, challenge themselves by rising above prejudice and racism. Through all the positive and negatives, the white captain, Gerry Bertier and the black player, Julius Campbell, will soon achieve kindness. In the novel, racism and prejudice become the major conflict, but the town stands against the concept of a combined team and therefore, the white characters do not support the African Americans. In To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee shows that prejudice creates many problems. Throughout the novel, segregation becomes prevalent in the town and generates many issues. Calpurnia, the Finches black housekeeper, takes Jem and Scout to her black community church, the First Purchase. The children start to feel unwelcome after Lula, a member of the church, displays an attitude of judgment. Lula turns furious when Calpurnia brings white folks to First Purchase where only African Americans can attend. Lula questions, “‘You ain’t got no business bringin’ white chillun here - they got their church, we got our’n. It is our church, ain’t it, Miss Cal?”’ (158). Lula explains how she does not favor the white children participating in her church.
