A very important example of a woman representing power, as well as pain in the Anglo Saxon community is Judith from the Book of Judith. She is depicted as a beautiful Hebrew maiden, but she is also seen as a figure that trumps the evil, in this case the Assyrian general Holofernes. She is sought after by Holofernes, after he has been drinking away at his feast. He tells his men to bring over the virgin girl, I’m guessing so that he may have his way with her. Judith is then brought to his chamber by the guards and now she feels trapped and scared. She shows the pain women go through while being caught in the types of situations like rape and confinement. Of course there are men that do care about believing, but it is seen more with women. This aspect of Judith is what puts her above many, she believes that killing Holofernes is not a sin because she prayed for this and she believes good gave her the strength to do what she did. This very belief puts her above men in the strength department because she knows that you cannot do everything by yourself sometimes it is good to rely on others for help, she is humble and not cocky. Some men take advantage of their strength and wealth and don’t value the gifts they receive, wasting them away on none sense and then they end up without a head, it’s the way things work. The fact that Judith is able to exhibit weakness is a strength in and of itself. She can show that she needs others and in the end she is rewarded for following what is true in her
