This book will shatter all your emotions and ruin your fabricated predictions, hence the name Shatter Me. This heart wrenching tale starts off with a lonesome girl ostracized and locked away from society due to her powers to eradicate anyone she touches. The girl, Juliette, was taken out of her confinement by an earnest young man from her past, Adam, and an imperious man who wants her future, Warner. Throughout this page turning, thought provoking novel Juliette is searching to find her own solace in this corrupted world.
When you first open this book you are hit with a curveball of writing, where you can vividly grasp the detrimental effect that the meager conditions of her confinement had on Juliette, turning her depressed and sluggish. The author starts off this novel with Juliette’s thoughts of “I’ve been locked up for 264 days.” This draws the reader into the story. The author then proceeds to use another point of view with the same idea “6,336 hours since I’ve touched another human being.” These two quotes combined with the author’s use of crossing out words that have Juliettes actual thoughts listed, brings an original dimension of character description in which we, the readers can fully understand the protagonist. …show more content…

A prime example of this is the character of Warner. Warner is the presumed antagonist of the story. At first glance he seems like a malevolent being who doesn’t understand the concept of family and love. After the initial meeting, Warner opens up with every encounter. During the final moments when Juliette is about to escape his grasp, Warner starts to beg Juliette to stay with him. At this moment we, as the readers, can finally see how his coldhearted front melted down to a pitiable boy that was hinted at throughout the novel.
