The concept of the film technique is a strong tool in the making of movies. Differing film techniques are used to create a range of emotions experienced by the viewer. They stir up feelings of light-heartedness, seriousness, fear and sadness. A movie scene can mostly change mood by only altering film techniques. Even a fight scene can vary in feelings based on the film technique utilized. This is the case in the movie, The Quiet Man. In The Quiet Man there are two fights shown involving the main character, Sean. Each of these conflicts is the complete opposite of the other, the first being dark and serious, while the second is fun and lively. The first difference between the two is the setting. While the first fight took place in a gloomy boxing ring, this fight took place outside, in the beautiful Irish landscape and town of Inisfree. The weather was perfect, and the sky was bright and blue. Another variation among the two scenes is the pace of the scenes. The pace of the music differed between the fights. The first of the conflicts was accompanied by a sorrowful tune that dimmed the mood. This is not the case with the second fight however. The second fight was supplemented by a very upbeat, joyful tune that gave the fight a sense of enjoyment and anticipation. Also, the pace of the action was dissimilar in the two fights. The pace in the first scene was average, but maybe slowed down a bit. The pace in the second fight, however, was much quicker than the first. As the brawl was occurring, the participants and the crowd of onlookers were running through the country and through town. At one point it seemed that the fight was set in fast-motion to intensify the face-paced feeling. The second fight had an overall sense of joy compared to the first’s feeling of
