Pumping Iron: Women and Sports
Ever since sports has been introduced into our society it has always been gender specific. Today, sports are still gender specific but not as much as before due to the change in social norms. Many people enjoy playing sports. For some it may be the competition, for others it may be for the love of the game. It has been difficult for individuals who enter non-traditional sports for their gender. Women have especially struggled with this matter until the Title 9 was issued. Before Title 9, many women were not allowed to participate in track and other sports that were not considered feminine. During the Victorian Times, women were only allowed to play sports that didn't make them look sweaty, tired or just messy. They had to stick to the norm of being conservative and looking proper. Can you imagine, they had to even wear skirts for baseball and other sports? How can you be comfortable and play well in that kind of an outfit? When it came to tennis, they had to look graceful like a ballerina. The main concern in playing a sport is enjoying it and playing it well. It never had to do anything with being part of a beauty contest. Women were given limitations into what sports they could participate in. However, realistically women were just as good as their counterpart when it came to playing sports in which they were not allowed to play.
Being a female and seriously competing in a non-traditional sport is an arduous task. Many individuals question your sexuality, race and class just because you have decided to participate in a non-traditional sport. However, the main fact that is being disregarded here is that everyone has the capability of playing any sport that they want to play. There should not be any boundaries to anything because of gender. It is unfair because there are certain things that are acceptable and unacceptable in society which puts a lot of pressure on people that are into non-traditional sports. The question is, why does being accepted matter so much in society? Why is it so hard to be accepted for something that you want to do? I mean you are not hurting anybody yet you are made to feel guilty for trying to be good in a non-traditional sport.
For this essay, I would like to use the movie "Pumping
The military exploits of the Mongols under Ghengis Khan as well as other leaders and the ruthless brutality that characterized the Mongol conquests have survived in legend. The impact of the invasions can be traced through history from the different policies set forth to the contributions the Mongols gave the world. The idea of the ruthless barbarian’s intent upon world domination will always be a way to signify the Mongols. Living steadfast upon the barren steppe they rode out of Mongolia to pursue a better life for their people.
The Mongol invasions were a very bloody and interesting time., While the Turks were in a constant state combat with each other, the Mongols first arrived in the Middle East in the early thirteenth century. (Mckay. 245) They were a very conquest driven and combat focused people, on par with the Turks in regards to combat prowess. The individual known as Chinggis Khan would bring about a change that no one would anticipate. In this discussion, will be the explanation of Chinggis Khan and his expansion of the control his empire with his successors.
Genghis Khan is the first ruler and the one who started the whole thing the military and everything else was him also it is said that 8% of men are distantly related to him and this is because he was said to rape some of the women is the cities they took over. People would think he lead this big
Throughout history, women have had to struggle for equality in all elements of our society, but no where have they had a more difficult time than in the area of athletics. Sports is a right of passage that has always been grafted to boys and men. The time has come for our society to accept women athletes and give them the attention they deserve.
Gender in sports has been a controversial issue ever since sports were invented. In the early years, sports were played only by the men, and the women were to sit on the sidelines and watch. This was another area of life exemplifying the sexism of people in which women were not allowed to do something that men could. However, over the last century in particular, things have begun to change.
The mongols were once nomadic warring tribes prior to their expansionism throughout Europe and Eurasia. Through the strong ideologies of a charismatic leader the tribes were able to band together and forge one of the largest empires in history. Through the means of force they subjugated the neighbouring lands and began the expansionism that would consume Asia, the Middle East, and parts of Europe.Once the persian empire was conquered it enabled the mongols to further expand towards Europe. Through battle tactics, a charismatic leader and opportunity allowed the Mongols to rapidly expand throughout Eurasia.
It has taken many years for women to gain a semblance of equality in sports. Throughout history, women have been both excluded from playing sports and discriminated against in sports. Men’s sports have always dominated the college athletic field, but women were finally given a fighting chance after Title IX was passed. Title IX, among other things, requires scholarships to be equally proportioned between men and women’s sports. Although this was a huge gain for women, gender inequality still exists in sports today. An example of this persisting inequality can be seen when looking at men’s baseball and women’s softball. In college, baseball and softball are both major NCAA sports. It is widely accepted throughout today’s society that baseball is a man’s sport, and softball is a woman’s sport. Very few people question why the two sexes are separated into two different sports, or wonder why women play softball instead of baseball. Fewer people know that women have been essentially excluded from playing baseball for a long time. This paper will focus on why softball has not changed the way women’s basketball has, why women continue to play softball, the possibilities and dynamics of women playing baseball with and without men, and the most discriminating aspect of women being banned from playing professional baseball.
To begin, the tense relationship between the protagonist, Amir and his father Baba demonstrates the disagreement among child and parent. The role of father-son is a dominant relationship in literature; the father is a very important role model to the child. Every boy needs a figure to influence them; however Baba did not live up to his expectations. The fact that Amir and Baba were opposite from one another signified a weak relationship. Baba had expressed his concern to his best friend, Rahim Khan, who is also known as Amir’s motivator. The representation of social class is used to determine the relationship between Amir and Baba. Baba believes he needed to be an inspiration to his son. Harsh words like, “If I hadn’t seen the doctor pull him out of my wife with my own eyes, I’d never believe he’s my son. (25)” can help define their beliefs. A child tries to build their parents trust by committing and altering behaviours that done feel true just to persuade a parent. Stereotypes such as: men should never be emotional, men always need to have interest in sports; portraits that Baba cares more about his class then his own son. Due to jealousy of the relationship between Hassan, whom had been introduced as a servant then later on revealed to be...
In summary, Despite opponents argue, fans want to see thunderous dunks and incredible athleticism over the lesser abilities of females, male competitions is more intense and there is more at risk, and male driven associations produce more revenue than female driven associations. It is apparent that male and females are built differently therefore they have different abilities, females go through the same types of events and often have more on the line, and female athletics aren 't given the same recognition or praise. Then, maybe one day female will receive the same amount of pay as their male counterparts. As, Vera Nazarian once implied, “A woman is human. She is not better, wiser, stronger, more intelligent, more creative, or more responsible than a man. Likewise, she is never less. Equality is a given. A woman is human.”
Genghis Khan was a Mongolian born in Born in 1162 and died in Western Xia, Aug 18, 1227. Before he was awarded with the name of Genghis Khan, or the universal ruler, he was called Temujin. Fatherhood in this novel is seen by different shade of colour, not knowing what the true shade really is. There are many turning points which show various stages in being a true father. Therefore, being a father is very difficult, having to overcome obstacles and being strong for each other. A well-known saying “like father, like son” is evident in this novel by the different ties of relationship each character had. In the novel, The Kite Runner, Khaled Hosseini proves that there is need of a fatherly figure when growing up. Having a father-son bond helps the child differentiate right from wrong. The relationship which demonstrates the need of a father figure is depicted by Baba and Amir, Hassan and Sohrab as well as Amir and Sohrab.
The movie “Charly” by Ralph Nelson made in 1968 is inspired by the novel “Flowers for Algernon” by Daniel Keys. The main characters are Charly , Alice, Dr.Straus, Dr.Nemur, and Miss Apple. In my opinion, I believe that the was a good movie because the way that all of the events followed.
Malaria kills over 3000 children ever-single day 12. This statistic illustrates the tragic outcome that is associated with this devastating disease. In the United States, we fail to completely understand the gravity of Malaria because it is not relevant in our daily lives. The same cannot be said of other nations around the world that are still considered high-risk areas. Sub-Saharan Africa is widely known to bears the greatest mortality rate at the hands of this fatal infection 12. Despite constant efforts to fight malaria, several economic, social, and biological factors have hindered its eradication.
However, as much as it may seem that malaria are an isolated case of a disease that affects only the poor and the developing areas of the world. Malaria is a world problem. Because its destructive power is felt by the entire world.
The churches in the world play a huge role in the determination to access of food, clean water, and shelter. No matter what religious affiliation, people will donate money to churches to help this growing problem that has arisen. This is important because churches are a good way to give those in need the supplies they need. The churches give the money raised by the offerings that people donate. This is effective because there are so many churches around the world. If most people donate a little bit of money, a substantial amount of people will be helped. The Christ House is a p...
