Will mankind colonize the red planet? Outer space remains a natural wonder; a vast frontier in arms reach. Currently our observable universe spans over ninety five billion light years from end to end. Expanding at 152,112 mph/megaparsec the universe grows, quicker than we can comprehend. A discovery based on deep-field images from the Hubble Space Telescope suggests ten septillion planets lurk in our observable Universe, and that’s only counting planets that are orbiting stars. Mankind has always looked towards the stars and planets; today we can reach them. Humans are confined to earth as of now, but that is all about to change. The red planet also known as Mars represents a landmark achievement in human evolution. Harboring possible …show more content…
As time has gone on methods of transportation, landing and sustaining have improved drastically. In 2007, researchers determined the four most effective landing systems. At the time they were breakthroughs. Further observations of the planet have pointed towards a fifth more suitable method. According to Astronomy.com, the past ideas are based on a lighter landing craft. Based on current information, “supersonic retropropulsion technology is required to be able to deliver the “projected 20 metric ton” spacecraft to the surface of Mars” (Nichols). Increased knowledge regarding the landing possibilities push humans towards a realistic plan of arrival on the planet. Ten years ago, landing on the red planet was a feat dared to be tested. Today, due to new information and knowledge humans are capable of landing on the surface. The technology already exists, only needing …show more content…
Elon Musk; the founder of SpaceX has used this passion to make astounding advances towards prolonged space travel/habitation. Will power is one of the, if not the most, powerful tool when facing such a task. Musk recently stated, “For me to be excited and inspired about the future, it’s got to be the first option. It’s got to be: We’re going to be a spacefaring civilization” (Musk). The logistics of undertaking a project such as this is immensely important. However, will power, such as Musk’s is the driving force behind all scientific advancements and discoveries. SpaceX has become an international star regarding to space exploration. Headed by Musk, the corporation has built advanced reusable rockets and countless other mega machines. His passion forms the foundation upon which this company is based. A National Geographic article sites Musk as saying, “It always seemed like we should have gone there by now, and we should have had a base on the moon, and we should have had space hotels and all these things” (Musk). SpaceX and Musk himself stand as a testament to what human will is capable of. Funding space exploration is incredibly expensive, but with the renewed passion SpaceX has been able to flourish, making leaps and bounds of progress in a few short years. Humans with this mindset are a primary reason as to why mankind will inhabit Mars. The red planet is almost
Up to now, space entry has been one of America’s greatest accomplishments. As Neil Armstrong once said, it was “one small step for man, one giant step for mankind” (Anastasio 2). Space entry has made man capable of almost
One of the qualities of the human race is that humans love to explore and find new things, like how Christopher Columbus found America. With most of our planet documented now, where do we have to go? The answer is simply one of the only places we haven’t yet (or may never) explore all of: space. Wars may be waged over land on earth, as there isn’t any new land to find there. So, we can go into space where unexplored land can be conquered and colonized. And while it may not seem like it, in the near future, it may be possible to colonize humans in space.
Elon musk is considered visionary entrepreneur, because he is a risk taker and a billionaire entrepreneur. He is CEO of many companies and inspires people to follow their dreams and to maybe be as successful as him. His journey and all his success speaks for itself. His vision for Tesla Motor’s is to produce high efficiency low cost vehicles to reduce gas emission lowering pollution and to move toward a safer renewable world. His main goal is to transition into more sustainable energy and to be less reliant on fossil fuels. Elon is most notorious for his CEO position in Tesla Motors, but he is involved with much more than Tesla. He is involved with SpaceX, The Boring Company, and SolarCity. He is leveraging all aspects of innovation through so many different companies and organizations. Including vehicle production, rocket production, and Hyperloop production. Elon and his team introduce many innovative features to all these different aspects across all levels.
These are the reasons why I believe there should be more investment in space research and technology. It would be a time consuming and financially draining quest, but the pay off in new technology, applications, resources, and expansion opportunities make it a goal to strive for. As our rate of consumption of Earth’s natural resources continues to increase, it is imperative that we invest in the research of outer space as a possible solution to sustaining the human race.
When talking about the current space program, Neil Degrasse Tyson once said, “I got angry with America, because advancing is not just something you do incrementally. You need innovation as well, so that your advances are revolutionary, not merely evolutionary” (Tyson 3). America used to have the top space program in the world. Being first to the moon excited the country and gave everyone a sense of pride and fulfillment. Lately, though, we have been falling behind in space exploration. A successful space program is needed in America, and here’s why: we are losing our grip on the title as the world superpower and a new age of economics and politics is coming faster than we are prepared for. To be prepared for this new age we need the funds,
SpaceX is impossible without mentioning Elon Musk himself. He believes colonizing other planets is not just a fantasy, and that it can become real in the next few years. One of such milestones is the lowering of the price of rockets; those existing now are enormously expensive to both construct and launch, for example, one launch of a rocket from the United Launch Alliance or Orbital Sciences costs about $225 million.
It is within man’s blood and nature to explore, and space is our next New World. Man’s first achievement in space travel was the launch of the Sputnik on October 4, 1957. For the next decades, space travel was roaring like a rocket, fueled by man’s desire to explore, man’s desire for knowledge, and man’s desire to beat his enemies. However, these impulses have died out as the well of government funding has been diverted to wars and debts, and the interest of the American people has been diverted to wars and debts. Amidst all these issues it is debated as to whether or not space travel is worth the money and the attention of scientists, particularly since humanity faces so many issues on earth currently. However, because of the past inventions, current services, and future benefits, space travel is indeed worth the money and attention of governments and people. It is within our hands to control man’s advancement, and space travel is the next venue to do so.
“Musk found in Silicon Valley a wealth of the opportunity he’d been seeking and a place equal to his ambitions.” Opportunity has a direct connection to success, but without determination opportunity means nothing. Determination is the first factor evaluated when determining someone's potential success. Elon Musk’s determination has the ability to literally will something into existence. From an early age Elon learned that determination is the greatest thing a man can possess, An abusive parent drilled that along with many other things into Elon’s head. He speaks very little of his childhood, but credits it for making him into the man he is today. This multi-billion dollar man wasn’t built in a day. Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for
With issues like climate change, and population overgrowth, our species faces the risks of major extinction (4). Climate change has been a man-made problem of recent years that threatens our planet. It will take huge mitigations from current and future societies to even come close to reversing climate change. Not only that, but our population has been growing at an extremely alarming speed. At our current rate, our species may not be able to survive for much longer. This is where space exploration comes in. With the recent discovery of water on mars, and the finding of Kepler-78b, it is possible that mankind can prolong our existence. The possibility of interstellar travel seems to be an option or even a necessity if we wish to continue living. Populating another planet could help solve the population crisis and climate change simultaneously. Though, it seems we are not at that point currently, which is exactly why it is imperative that the government increase funding for space exploration. Now, even if inter-galactic habitation isn’t possible, space research helps us protect ourselves from asteroids and other threats, and could also be used to find other planetary resources. Nonetheless, it seems space research is of utmost significance if we want to continue living as a
Space is unimaginably vast, and the problems keeping humans from mastering the exploration of and colonization of space is equally daunting. Impressive advances have been made within the past century, and dedicated efforts to make equally impressive strides in the next hundred years are in place. Space research will not yield resutls overnight, but the information obtained along the way will have a positive impact throughout the scientific community and the world's population in turn. With a goal of extraplanetary habitation, humans can prepare protective measures for neutralizing danger and managing resources underwater, in space, and on land, domestic and alien. The scientific and cultural unity required to reach this goal has the potential to propel mankind as a species and farther through the stars than ever imagined.
And do we really need to venture into space when there are so many issues we have on this planet that we need to fix? But let me humor you: let’s focus on the positives and try to believe that what Musk has done is lifechanging and a positive step for humanity. The first benefit is one of the main reasons Musk wants us to go over to mars- to prove that interplanetary travel is possible and would therefore mark the beginning of extraterrestrial life for humans.
Some people will say that this will never work or that will never happen, even in the beginning of aviation, Orville Wright once said”no machine will ever fly from New York to Paris. No known motor can run at the requisite speed for four days without stopping”. These negative quotes compel us to do better than before and better than everyone else. Wouldn’t you like to go to another planet and see what these new planets have to
Space travel progressed to suborbital flight and the moon landing in the 1960s, but spaceflight developments now stand at a halt as failures and costly disasters leave the space shuttle in the past. Private corporations want to embark on the journey of space, venturing
Founded in 2002 by Elon Musk, former Tesla motors and PayPal founder, SpaceX is the first commercial space company, giving way for a new era of commercial space travel. More than 3000 employees are working there; from astronauts and engineers to accountants and software developers. It is incredible how this company grew.
Did you know that without space exploration we wouldn’t have a lot of our knowledge or technology? I always wanted to help make a rocket fly one day, or be apart of space a corporation.
