Date: June 18, 2015 To: Ms. Hwayoung Yi, Professor From: Cameron Crawford, Student Subject: Proposal for Remodeling of Sidewalks Purpose The purpose of our proposal is to request the remodeling of some sidewalks around Texas A&M University that need to be repaired, or added in general. Summary There are sidewalks around Texas A&M University are in much need of remodeling. It is hard to believe that this beautiful University has gone long enough without the remodeling of mistreated sidewalks. There are many areas around campus that the sidewalks are cracked, weathered, or have holes. This is unacceptable for a university of Texas A&M’s leveling. It is imperative that Texas A&M helps remodel the sidewalks to accommodate student that …show more content…
This is a hazard for many students. The red shows where there should be a new sidewalk and the yellow shows interference in the path. The grass is basically gone because of student traffic, and as everyone should know the grass on Texas A&M University is sacred. In accordance to the American with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), all sidewalks must be disability friendly. It states that “this [sidewalk] area should be free of all obstructions, protruding objects, and any vertical obstructions hazardous to pedestrians, particular for individuals with vision impairments” (Boodlal). First impression is everything to many people. If new students come to visit the campus and see that Texas A&M does not keep their sidewalks up to date, they will lose potential new students. The loss of one student because of a mere sidewalk performance makes Texas A&M have a bad reputation. It might take money, but this project’s outcome outweighs the cost. Introduction There are sidewalks around Texas A&M University are in much need of remodeling. It is hard to believe that this beautiful University has gone long enough without the remodeling of mistreated sidewalks. There are many areas around campus that the sidewalks are cracked, weathered, or have holes. This is unacceptable for a university of Texas A&M’s leveling. The average cost to repair one square foot of sidewalk is averaged around $7 for a professional company. This being said, Texas A&M has it’s own resources and can reduce the cost to around $4 for the repairing. The cost of a new concrete slab costs around $90 to $175 (Kudzu). This cost to repair the damaged or missing sidewalks is minimal compared to the outcomes. Losing that one student will cost Texas A&M $5000+ alone for one year. The cost
in English and taught as a part time instructor. It’s a garden that he describes as “overgrown and seemingly unmanaged...perhaps the only place left at the university that is not meticulously landscaped and stage-managed for tour groups and the website”. While the “aesthetic conformity” of the school is not the only issue, DeBoer’s portrayal of the campus sets the mood of his statement. The juxtaposed descriptions of the natural versus managed spaces on campus reflect the bigger picture; namely universities are more focused on marketability than education. He backs this up with other information, but it is this personal example that will likely stick with the audience. The garden might seem like a trivial issue, but it represents DeBoer’s personal stake in the subject. “That’s precisely why I love the garden: It’s one of the last little wild places left at Purdue”, he says, “Naturally, it’s slated for demolition”. This particular statement is a powerful ending to his introduction because it depicts the weakness of campus culture and freedom against university

The failure tragically occurred on the night of the dance party, with the added weight of all of the partygoers proving too much for the supporting bolts to handle. At 7:05 P.M. one of the upper walkway’s supporting bolts failed causing the rest of the connections to break and “unzip” (Chronology). The upper walkway crashed onto the lower walkway causing both to fall onto the lobby floor below. Numerous key factors are often cited as having left the construction project vulnerable to such fatal design flaws.
On June 9, 2003, my life took an interesting turn. It was a sunny day. Blue skies, humidity insanely high, and I found myself at 4th Street and Constitution in Washington, D.C. I stood before an angled architectural masterpiece by famed architect I.M. Pei; its pointed corners jutted out towards the grassy Mall and Capitol Hill as if it were some sort of Picasso-esque compass pointing simultaneously towards all the tourist hot spots. (The one corner, purportedly the sharpest building corner in the world, wore a dark gray spot about eye level where thousands if not millions of tourists had touched it just to see how sharp it really was). I found myself standing before it, not as tourist . . . but as an employee on my first day of work.
As a native Austinite, I carry a native’s passion for Austin’s soul. My father’s career was with PageSoutherlandPage (PSP) and my mother worked with Austin Custom Records and Austex Printing. Our family prized and modeled a pioneering and creative mindset, built on a foundation of tolerance and inclusiveness—in other words, the Austin soul. As an example, we were one of the first families to build in Westlake in 1965 and my mother named our street, since our home established its existence. Cutting-edge architect A.D. Stenger built on the lot next to us, and I religiously donated my 25¢/week allowance to the Westlake High School building fund, believing this meant I would soon own a building. Years later, I learned how to drive on Mopac—since there was so little traffic on it—and flew in and...
Sidewalks are different shapes and sizes, people tend to make their own decisions to which way they would want to go. Going through the motions on a sidewalk is similar as going through the motions of life. There are many turns that could get you to your final destination and turns that can also get you into places you would not feel so comfortable being. Staying on the right path and trying to get to where you need to go isn’t so hard but when you have other sidewalks with nice grass and big beautiful street lights that can be a very big distraction to the eye and that could cause problems in your life. Nice sidewalks sometimes don't always tend to continue a nice path so they can be very believing at first but when you make it to the end
In attempt to revitalize the City of Grande Prairie Downtown Core, two projects were launched. The Downtown Incentives Program & Policy were developed to encourage business and property owners within the Downtown, an incentive program to invest in higher density residential development, building and facade improvements. The Down town Rehabilitation and Street Scaping Project was a multi-phase project designed to revitalize the down town through infrastructure upgrades and an updated streetscape design. The Downtown Incentives Program was successful in offering financial incentives/subsidies to property owners under three different categories; Urban Residential Development, Facade Improvement and Patio Grant.
The cost of building a universal playground according to Kurt Schroeder, (Park Operations & Development Manager for Colorado Springs, CO) is significant enough to limit what the city is able to do on its current budget. Working within the confines of the budget has made the building of universal playgrounds, and making the changes and improvements to existing playgrounds a very difficult task. Currently the city of Colorado Springs has $750,000 budgeted toward playgrounds. $250,000 of that is just in the surfacing of the playgrounds. An additional $150,000 is budgeted toward improvements of existing playgrounds. Mr. Schroeder stated that the surfacing of the playgrounds is the largest differential expense compared to th...

The renovated grounds will allow visitors to walk from the Luther Ely Square to the Arch. The riverfront will be one continuous greenway without having a single curb or stair. This will allow easier access to the Arch and Gateway Arch riverboats. As well as adding new bike paths that connect with the existing bike trail networks. They are looking to increase the accessibility by adding gently sloped pathways from the Arch grounds down to the riverfront.

One of the greatest experiences that I have been exposed was brushing a paint brush against a wide range of different material, and transferring an idea from my mind into a real, picturesque work of art. I’m modest about my work in art; very few people know that I have a talent, and thoroughly enjoy transferring images from my imagination onto canvas. Painting puts me into a tranquil state of mind. If I were to paint on the Beta Bridge at the University of Virginia, I would want people to experience the same mindset that I have, instead of drawing a “Goooo Hookies sign.
Copper Basin K-8 school highly encourages alternative transportation and older students to help younger students walk to school. At the school, there is a program that the 7th & 8th graders are participating in. It is called Vistas and it teaches us to help our community. By walking younger students to school, we are helping are community. “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle” is what Vistas tries to promote.
During my under graduation I have learnt only about basics of pavement materials and different layers of pavements. It was only after studying graduate courses I realized how limited my knowledge was and I need to work very hard and explore more in this vast field. During first year of my graduate study I have studied Pavements Materials, Pavement Design and Evaluation, Highway Construction Practices and these graduate courses opened a new paradigm for me to the way I looked at pavement engineering. This prompted me to look at it as a field full of challenges which make it even more dynamic and op...
