Mostly everyone remembers the ‘High School Musical: Senior Year’, the last of three High School Musical series. The movie focuses on two teenagers preparing for the end of senior year and the beginning of their futures. For their senior prom you see everything like singing proposals, dancing on rooftops, the perfects dates. A lot of people can’t resist the thought of prom after watching this movie, but that isn’t the case for everyone. What’s behind the dresses and suits, is something no one wants, expenses. Prom is definitely not worth it because it’s too expensive, too stressful, and rarely does it live up to the participants expectations. Prom is not worth going to because it isn’t cheap, and for some students, it’s just unaffordable. Some people believe that as a reward and right of passage for seniors, prom is entirely worth it. Nonetheless, prices of prom are still high. According to Olivia Holler from Liberty Ledger, “Prom dresses ranges from $100-$600 depending on the brand or designer” and “Tux rentals ranges from $100-$150”(sec. 2). This shows how so far the apparel for prom can reach $100 or more, not counting the shoes, accessories, transportation, etc. …show more content…
Teenagers worry about fitting in and making prom the ‘perfect’ night. As said by child and adolescent psychiatrist, Laura Markley on Inside Children’s Blog “There tends to be a lot of stress related to the end of the school year, tests and changes in peer relationships. Prom can add to this”(sec. 2). This proves that prom adds unnecessary stress to students who have enough on their plates. Dr. Markley also explained,“Some parents assume their child will never be the one to get so stressed out by something like that... However all teens are at risk. Teens are emotional and have the potential to be very impulsive because their brains are still developing,”(sec.
Walking into Walnut Hills High School right now would have anyone thinking the just walked into the middle of a tornado. Everyone you look there are students running in and out of doors, in and out of cars, and most certainly either turning in missing assignments or retaking tests. There is only one way for you to explain all this ciaos, Senior Year, the year that all teens await with so much excitement and ambition and the year that every single hour long study dates pays off. For the class of 2021 this isn’t just their final year at Walnut Hills this is the year that friends separate and head off to their different university to follow their dreams.
Teenagers often act on impulses. Teenagers are still young and in between the adult and tenn stage. This often leaves teenagers emotions and acts to but unpridicatble and to fir them to act on impulse.
One of the most complicated puzzles that have faced our society and you, the parents, is that of the teenage brain. The reason that this has been stumping our heads is because this puzzle isn’t even complete. The adolescent brain is developed from back to front creating many complications for their decisions. This both helps and damages us. With this ability, we have an easier ability to learn new things, easier time adapting to our environment, and we seek new thrilling experiences. The ways this hinders us is that we have bad decision making, emotions controlling our decisions, sensitivity to social and emotional information, and the seeking of immediate rewards. Although a teenager’s brain is not fully
‘’Fear Prompts Teens To Act Impulsively’’ shows fear. In this short essay it's saying that kids and teenagers can act different to threatening situations because, their brains aren't fully developed. Sanders quotes that ‘’People between the ages of 13 and 17 were more likely than at any age to push the button when shown a face with a threatening expression. This reaction was viewed as evidence of poor impulse control’’. This is saying that teenagers when they are put in a bad situation they need show their anger and show that they are bothered by a situation. “Fear Prompts Teens to Act Impulsively” shows fear just like “Stress for Success.”
There is a way that teens act the way they do - their brains are still actively growing and developing, changing day to day, still far from reaching their full potential. As stated in Article One, “The part of the brain that makes
Although this may seem like a huge indication on why teens do act upon impulse, it can not be blamed on the underdeveloped brain argument which is greatly proved in the article “On Punished and Teen Killers” by Jennifer Jenkins. Jenkins argues, “If brain development were the reason, then teens would kill at roughly the same rates all over the world”. With this brain loss it would be expected that all existing teens would receive the same rush and desire to murder, rape, commit aggravated assault or any other crime, but this is not true. The incident which Nathaniel Brazill committed is another example, he “shot to death an English teacher who would not let him say goodbye to two girls… he said he made a ‘stupid mistake’ but prosecutors argued that by bringing a gun to school he planned the crime”. This act cannot be labeled simply a “stupid mistake” because it was proven to be premeditated and not only did he bring the gun to school, but the fact that he was angry shows he did it on purpose and had the clear intention to kill. While research on brain tissue loss can help us to understand teens better, it cannot be used to excuse their violent or homicidal
As Paul Thompson states in his article Startling Finds on Teenage Brains from the Sacramento Bee, published on May 25, 2001, “.These frontal lobes, which inhibit our violent passions, rash action and regulate our emotions, are vastly immature throughout the teenage years.” He also says that “The loss[of brain tissue] was like a wildfire, and you see it in every teenager.”. This loss of brain tissue plays a role in the erratic behavior of teens, who cannot properly assess their emotions and thoughts. During this period of brain tissue loss, teens are unpredictable, adults do not know what their teen’s next move will be, teens themselves do not even know what their next move will be. As we grow our brains develop, therefore teen brains are not fully developed, so they cannot be held to the same standards as adults.
Some people say that most teenagers are careless and do not think about the consequences of their actions. Teenagers are careless and do not think of what the outcome can turn out to be. Teens just don't have enough experience, just yet in their life. Teenagers are hanging out with the wrong crowd that can cause actions to be made. Also, most teens just want to party in their teenage life, since they have a free feeling.
It has been found that juvenile brains are not yet fully developed. The parts of the brain specifically still changing during the teen years include the brain circuitry involved in emotional responses and impulsive responses. Teen emotional reactions are intense and urgent (National Institute
...cks impulse control. Furthermore, because the teenage brain lacks the cognitive ability to control impulses, he or she seeks rewards from risky behavior, a behavior that will continue until the brain completely develops.
Most people would say that prom is one of the most anticipated events that seniors in high school look forward to. However, I never gave much thought about going to prom mostly due to the fact that I was really shy and unconfident. Still, my friends would constantly ask whether or not I was going to attend prom. I would always tell them “I don’t know” every time, but since it was my senior year, my friends pressured me with guilt, saying that I would regret not going to our final high school dance. After constant thinking and being jealous of all the prom proposals that were happening, I decided I would try to get out of my comfort zone and go to prom.
Suicide among young adults is a major ongoing situation that is preventable. There are thousands of teenagers committing suicide each year. "It is the third-leading cause of death for young people ages fifteen to twenty-four, surpassed only by homicide and accidents, according to the United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention" (Teen). Teenagers experience different fears, for example, feeling like they are not good enough, feeling alone, or even being stressed or pressured about something. For most teens, suicide seems to be the only option to escape their problems. There can be many causes behind a teen 's suicide. The probability of these suicides dramatically increases when there are firearms in the home of teenagers. Over half
Many parents are confused on why their teens behave in a impulsive, irrational, and risky behavior. A study showed that brain activity and brain changes is unique in teenagers. A teenagers brain is different from an adult and a young child 's wich is proven with research by psychologists. “ Although teens want to explore
During adolescence emotional reactivity is heightened, and the social environment is changing as adolescents spend more time with their peers than adults (Casey, 2008). To an adolescent, the value of positive information, as well as negative information may be exaggerated which leads to greater emotional reactivity and sensitivity during this growth period (Casey, 2008). This can heighten the incidence of addiction and the onset of psychological disorders (Casey, 2008). There are various theories that attempt to explain why adolescents engage in risky behaviour. One of these theories by Yurgelun-Todd stems from human adolescent brain development, and proposes that cognitive development during the adolescent period is associated with increasingly superior efficiency of cognitive control and affective modulation (Casey, 2008). This theory also suggest...
