Explain what “proctoring” means and why the UoPeople requires proctored exams.

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary. A Proctor is “one appointed to supervise students (as at an examination)”

Proctoring is required by the University of The People to make sure during specific exams, students are utilizing their resources, and information learned throughout the course. Proctored exams are an excellent way to prove integrity on behalf of the student or individual, and provides legitimacy to their transcript. At the very least, you must be an adult of the age of 21. Also, the proctor is not allowed to have any conflict of interest with the student. A good example is being in a romantic relationship or family ties. Anything that can lead the University to believe there is a personal interest in the student's grades. The proctor must also be responsible, and physically present at all times during the exam. There are no exceptions for this.
Students are also not allowed to provide any compensation to the proctor for their time or assistance. Payment is only acceptable if the student chooses to use ProctorU or another third-party service. The Proctor must have stable access to the internet, and a reliable e-mail service for contact. The biggest requirement of them all is the Proctor must be willing to follow all rules, and regulations provided by the University for the exam. Following the standards of the University, validates the integrity of the exam.”
