Procrastination is my number one weakness. Having such a weakness is a pain because I am currently a college student. Fortunately, I am not the only one who needs this behavior change, “Procrastination is a prevalent phenomenon among college students” (The Relationship Of Flow). Degrees and procrastination do not go well together; in fact a degree cannot be earned without overcoming dreadful procrastination. Since the start of my first college semester my number one dream is to graduate college. Procrastination is difficult to overcome but I can do it. So my dilemma is pretty clear and conquering this bad habit and making a positive change is my next step. I chose the topic of procrastination for my behavior change project because I need to overcome this bad habit in order to graduate college and succeed in my life.
If I want to correct my procrastination, I need to make a big change by filling my days with study time and accomplished assignments. One area in my life that I need to change is my desire. I believe the root of having a habit of procrastination is not having enough desire for my goals. Writers are an excellent example of people who have overcome procrastination. The books and articles that writers create are filled with sometimes hundreds of pages just to tell a story. They have realized that procrastination is a weakness. Writers want the story to be told so bad that if hundreds or even one page is necessary, then it will be written. So I have found the solution to my problem including an example to model after. Yet again, I procrastinate from implementing the plan and reversing my procrastination. Procrastination will not get the best of me. I need to put the best of my efforts into accomplishing my college degree....

...e but these four weeks were crucial. I now have an idea of what I can accomplish when I get off of social networks and even turn off my phone. Now I just need to make a good habit of absolutely banishing my procrastination. These four weeks of my behavior change were just a big step into my grade-damaging problem. I know what I need to do to stop my procrastination so I just need to use my time wisely. It’s hard to believe that I have had to struggle with procrastination since elementary school. I am now getting that a grip on this bad problem. I'm making progress to solve my studying problem. Projects like these and more in the future will make me a complete economist learner which is the opposite of my academic situation four weeks ago. I believe college and the college preparation class is benefiting me by not only increasing my grades but bettering my life.
Procrastination has become such a bad habit for me. It is very hard to stop procrastinating everything once you have gotten into the habit of doing it. Once I had a term paper due for my religion class. It was to be ten pages long and we were told to spend a lot of time doing it. Being the procrastinator that I am, I waited to the very last minute to do it. I waited until the night before to do most of it. Needless to say, I was up very late that night. In this class there was always a part of the paper due on a certain date before the final paper was due. Having things due before the final paper is due keeps me on task and keeps me from procrastinating until the day before the paper is due. There was one paper which we had to get sources for a while before the paper was due and it forced me to keep up with the paper, rather than let it go to the last minute. This class has taught me that the earlier you start the more positive your final result will be.
The best way to procrastinate is to interact with other people. That way you can lay part of the blame on someone else: "Well, Mom was talking to me about something important. I couldn't just walk away." I prefer to talk on the phone to friends who go to schools far away. We usually don't talk too often, so when we do, we have to make it count. For those that who don't want to spend a mountain of money on phone bills, any kind of messaging system on the Internet is a great way to communicate.
Some college students a lot of times procrastinate because they have a fear of failing (Webber). College students sense that they never have any room to mess up and bounce back again to cover up for the failure that has been taken place. The fear of failing can only hold college students back if they allow it to. No college student wants t...
A study completed by Robert M. Klassen, Lindsey L. Krawchuk and Sukaina Rajani found a relationship between low self-efficacy, low self-esteem, lack of motivation and procrastination. Out of the three attempts to squash my tendency to procrastinate, only one seemed to work. The first thing I tried that worked, was to set a timer for 10 minutes, and just work for those 10 minutes. Next, I would give myself a 10 minute break. This was an idea suggested by my professor at the beginning of the year. This worked at first; I would get into my writing mojo, and not stop for an hour or so.

...rs tend to overestimate the degree of unpleasantness of a task” (Lay, 46). Procrastination is a problem that when left unchecked can cause serious problems in every aspect of a person’s life. The solution for students can be as easy as sticking to a goal or as hard as denying themselves a prize when they missed the deadline on a project. The type of solution a person uses depends on what works best for that student, but a schedule to help stay goal positioned never hurt.
Napoleon Hill said procrastination is the bad habit of putting off until the day after tomorrow what should have been done the day before yesterday. A lot of people today will actually experience procrastination in their everyday life, and is not looked at as a problem until it interferes with peoples’ ability to work and if it creates psychological and physical discomfort. Choi, psychologists, distinguished two types of protracting, they discovered that active procrastination has attainable characteristics that lead to positive personal outcomes (Choi and Moran). These positive personal outcomes are a result of waiting at its finest. People with these adequate dilatory skills have probably learned from their deficient habits in the past that may help everyone know that the view of holding off can change. Writing this essay has changed my view on procrastination slightly, as I can see how it can be good for you. With my siblings, free time is limited. So taking time to do something more entertaining helps me take a break from stressful work. Then when I get back to it I feel more confident that I can focus and finish it. That’s an example of active procrastination for me. Frank Partnoy shows historical views on procrastination, in an article about his book, such as how “The Greeks and Romans generally regarded procrastination highly. The wisest leaders embraced procrastination and would basically sit around and think and not do anything unless they absolutely had to” (Gambino 2012). Those Romans and Greeks were able to enjoy their time of relaxation, using procrastination as a healthy tool rather than a bad habit. Even wise leaders used it! What an amazing realization that we get procrastination from
