With football coming to life, there had to be a person or multiple people officiating the game to ensure that the players did not break the rules and keep the playing field even. When any sport comes to my mind, the first thing that comes to my mind is the players, then the game and then the people that are reffing the game. When the game of football is fully laid out, the persons who determine the game and keep it in line are always going to be cautious on what to call. There have been times that, as a referee, you are the one that can make or break the game. The referee has a very simple job, to make sure the game goes well and that the game is played correctly. Within this process analysis essay will be the explanation on how to be a referee in American Football. There are several things that the referee has got to be doing at any given time for every play of the game. They have several jobs that they need to …show more content…
If the ref does not run with the player receiving or running the ball, then they cannot tell where he is down or if he stepped out. The ref will not accurately know where to mark the ball on the field after the play is over. After the player scores, then the ref must get the ball and ask on which side of the field the team would want to have the ball. From what the team tells the referee, then the ref must redo step one and watch to see if there is movement anywhere on the field before the ball is snapped. The next step after the team scores is to do a kickoff. A team must to do a kickoff even if they do not make the two-point conversion or if they miss or make a field goal. On kickoff, the ref will blow the whistle to make sure that the players are in a legal formation and to see if the kicking team is behind the kicker. If the players on kickoff are not behind the kicker, then it is a penalty of five yard backwards from the previous
He kicks it and the ball sails to the opposite end zone. The returner grabs ahold of the ball and takes off as fast as he can only hoping a hole opens up for him. He run and meets the first defender, the returner thinks on his feet and jukes him out climbing to the next level he keeps going forward. The returner takes a big hit and is knocked unconscious for a few minutes. The trainers come and check him and then he is carried off the field and back to the locker
First off, when kicking a football, you have to factor in several things. You need to know what the distance is from the spot of the ball to the field goal and what direction you’re kicking the ball. You also have to factor in the direction the wind and how fast the wind is blowing. If the wind is blowing towards the field goal post, it will most likely increase the distance it will travel. If the wind is blowing away from the field goal post, the distance you can make a field goal will decrease.
American football in the past several years have really developed, not only from the fans perspective but also from the players and the official heads. Safety is the most important topic talked about in all sports but it is a must in football, especially because of the way the game is played with all of the tackles and hits. It is really important not only for the players to be safe but also the officials to keep it safe. Both players and officials play a key role in making the game of football safe and interesting to watch for the fans and a great experience for the players as well. As said in the Denver Post, players are expected to play with the rules…coaches are expected to teach…and game officials to emphasize the rules. The game of football, in the NFL, is safer than it has ever been because of the rules, penalties and the equipment.
To describe football, regulation requires that teams win by earning the most points than the opposing team like shooting hoops in basketball or running to home plate in baseball. During the process of the game, either team will play in offense or defense in order to gain or prevent points. Unlike most sports, the game of football require an enormous amount of physical contact that
The rules that the NFL is changing is rules that deal with the head like targeting, and leading with the head. The rule change with a huge uproar as the kick off, moving the ball from the twenty to the thirty yard line.
Football has been defined as one of the most competitive sports in the world. There are many different levels of playing, such as flag, high school, college, and professional. Where most of the rules stay the same no matter what stage of playing you are at, some things do change. When coaching in flag football for little kids you won’t be making money, the players aren’t recruited, and you don’t have a set number of players for your team. When playing n college and in the National Football League (NFL) all of those things come into play.
III. Thesis/Argument: In order to decrease the occurrence of concussions, stricter rules need to be applied in all levels of football.
First the rule in the NFL was that the play would be an automatic penalty, would result in player fine, and an additional fifteen yards would be added from where the foul was committed. The play is reviewable; however, if the call on the field does not stand the player is not fined, but it is still a fifteen yard penalty. A lot of coaches and other National Football League associates disagreed with that section of the rule and after debates and discussions the rule was changed. As of the season, if the play is reviewed and there is not an actual penalty then
with, kicking, or passing it. With passing, though, you can only pass the ball backwards or directly to your side, never forward. Like football, you score by running the ball into the endzone or by kicking it through the uprights. Also, you must touch the ball to the ground for it to count, and it is worth five points. When kicking, the ball can be kicked from anywhere spontaneously. If it passes through the uprights, it is worth three points, as in football.
The rules of American football can be really hard to understand at first, especially the level of play. First the game of football is a timed sport. It’s divided up with 4 quarters and a halftime to give players a break and fans time to go to the
There are many things in life that have their unique differences. Every level of Football has its 's differences, but there are some differences that matter the most. Different things have to be done from the high school level to the college level, and to the national level of football. There are different requirements needed in a players ' arsenal to develop a certain football leveled skill-set. This essay is about the difference between the high school football level and the professional football level. Some of these differences have to do with safety and protection of players.
Changes can be made to try to make the sport safer, but as time goes on players will continue to get bigger and stronger, and we can’t change the fact that it is a full contact sport. Injuries will be inevitable, some will be minor and others can be fatal. Is a human life worth less than money or entertainment? Players risk the chance of a healthy future every time they step on the field. The human body is not made to take that continuous and ferocious impact game after game. Many players sell themselves short while putting their bodies in harm’s way which increases their probability of health complications down the road. If the violent aspect of the game is not addressed, it will negatively impact the future of players and the sport. Hopefully, the studies and research that is made public can somehow find a way to make the game safer for the players. Until that day comes, football is much too dangerous and not worth the
First of all, the rules of football require one to equip himself with approximately twenty pounds of equipment, including a helmet, shoulder pads, and girdle pads. This is because football has the most contact involved out of all sports. In a football game, the norm is that the home team wears colorful jerseys and the visiting team wears white jerseys. Moreover, if a team’s offense is on the field, their defense is on the sideline. A team’s offense includes a center, who snaps the ball to the quarterback. The “QB” then has a choice to run with the ball, hand it off to a running back, or throw it to a wide receiver. The quarterback has an offensive line to protect him from the assailing defense. If a teammate happens to score a touchdown, he earns his team six points, which allows for the kicker to kick an extra point, and give his team a total of seven points. However, if the offense fails to travel at least ten yards within four attempts, or “downs,” they have the opti...
The long snapper snaps the ball back to the kicker or punter, except during a kickoff. The holder holds the ball for the kicker during a field goal or an extra point. The last group is the return group. This is the opposing team that receives the ball during a punt or a kickoff. The player that catches the ball, called either a punt returner or a kick returner, attempts to advance the ball downfield for a
The commissioners of America’s favorite sports are discussing the rules of instant replay and are including the use of it into the sports. Instant replays are the most accurate source for officials to use, and should be used in all professional sporting events. A con to having instant replays in any sporting event is that it takes away human error which
