The constitution of the United States is more than 200 years old, it dates back to the 18th century. The constitution is ‘“ The supreme law of the land” which means the highest form of law in the U.S. the name of the american government is the “constitution” after the delegates who signed the bill of rights it in the constitutional convention in philadelphia.There are 6 basic principles which the government operates under today that are set up by the constitution. The 6 basic principles are the popular sovereignty, limited government, separation of powers,judicial review, checks and balances and federalism.

Popular sovereignty states that the power is in the hands of the people. as well as the people are the sovereign they are the source which leads to any governmental power. The government cannot govern if they do not have consent from the people they are governing. another principle is limited government. Limited government claims that the government is not 100% in power, it can only do certain things that the people give consent to . Popular sovereignty is many of the reason people are grateful to be american citizens because they believe that they can vote and there voices will be heard and taken under consideration, they will also be part of any ,major decision that the government makes in order to ensure that the decision suits the people. this principle also makes the people believe that the decisions that were made or will me made in the future is only to benefit the people and the future american citizens to come , as stated “ by the people for the people”last but not least the U.S constitution that was made by the framers to ensure citizens have the power in order to prevent tyranny or any misuse of power which would have been bound to happen if the U.S was not conducted by this
