Good morning ladies and gentleman of the jury, today I stand before you to formally plead on behalf of my client, Princess Diana Frances Mountbatten-Windsor, who has been troubled to inaccurate accusations on countless events by the media within our society. Exclusively in an article, which was featured in a Woman's Day magazine published on the 10th of July, evidently had the intention of disgracing my client. The article positions the reader to view Princess Diana as psychotic, manipulative and threatening. This is undeniably a false representation. In fact, my client was modest and considerate. In no case, what so ever, was my client threatening to kill the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla Parker Bowles. Princess Diana was recognised as the …show more content…
The article was placed in the magazine and would have therefore been read or at least seen by hundreds of thousands of woman as in its name it says it's Australia’s number one weekly magazine. The gigantic two-page spread of the article with massive headings and images. The article also features two smaller pictures with a small caption surrounding both. It is utterly obvious that the journalist has deliberately made the article to engage and fascinate readers, so society sees my client as a mischievous person. In addition, the article also has the large headline with the statement that ‘Diana tried to kill me’ Not only does that engage and catch their attention it makes them want to keep reading the article. Additionally, the page design of the article shows a medium shot of Diana and on the opposite side of the page a medium shot of Camilla. The medium shot allows the readers to see the body language of the two ladies with their arms folded, with a menacing stare. This positions readers to believe there is a great degree of tension within their relationship. Therefore, my client is seen to be an evil person, even though Camilla was worse in causing …show more content…
In the first two paragraphs, it states that my client sent disturbing death threats through calls and messages to Camilla, then went onto use emotive language such as ‘threatening to kill’ and ‘lonely and deeply troubled wife’ implies that Princess Diana was depressed and psychotic. Another symbolic code in the font. In particular, the big bold font of the headline, that leads the public to believe that the statement “Diana tried to kill me’ is true. Once again, readers believe my client was a threatening and psychotic person. Referring back to the two-page spread that features the two medium shot images, one of Princess Diana and one of Camilla opposing each other. The images chosen, make Diana out to be a cold women and that she is scheming to harm Camilla due to her body language, her arms are crossed and eyes have a menacing stare. Clearly, Woman’s Day used those words and images to defame my client
The defendant of the Casey Anthony Trial, is Casey Anthony. At the age of 19 she had given birth to her daughter Caylee Marie Anthony, the victim in this case. The one who first noticed the 2 year old daughter missing were her grandparents, Cindy and George Anthony. Casey was found a month after she left her parents house, with her boyfriend Tony Lazzaro. It was then that Casey had told the police about how her daughter was missing for about a month because the babysitter, Zenaida “Zanny the Nanny” Fernandez-Gonzalez had kidnapped her. These were the main people who started off the investigation on Casey Anthony.
In July of 2008, one of the biggest crime cases devastated the United States nation-wide. The death of Caylee Anthony, a two year old baby, became the most popular topic in a brief amount of time. Caylee’s mother, Casey Anthony, became the main suspect after the child supposedly was kidnapped and went missing. To this day, the Casey Anthony case shocks me because justice, in my opinion, wasn’t served. I feel as if the criminal conviction system became somewhat corrupted in this case. The entire nation, including the court system, knew that Casey Anthony was behind this criminal act, but yet she escaped all charges. I chose this case not only because it’s debatable, but also to help state the obvious, this case was handled the wrong way. Clearly the legal system was biased, which worked in Casey Anthony’s favor, freeing a murderer.
The Massie trial should be considered a trial of time because the trial consisted of the Hawaiian community being treated unfairly, majority of Hawaiians were characterized to be the rapist and not safe to be around. I also believe Thelma Massie wasn’t ever raped from the beginning I think she was mad because of the altercation she got into with the submarine at the club and wanted to blame it on someone else. And this trials shows how others didn’t agree with the trial decision and choose to take matters into their own hands, but also shows that when the rape test came back negative for during the first the courts should have checked for insanity in Thelma Massie.
Patty Hearst was a normal 19 year old girl, living in an apartment with her fiance and attending university in Berkeley, California, until one day her life, and the lives of everyone around her changed forever. On the evening of February 4, 1974, some members of the left-wing radical group called the Symbionese Liberation Army barged into Hearst’s home armed with guns, and beat up her fiance before kidnapping Hearst and bringing her to their house where she was kept blindfolded in a closet for 59 days. While locked in the closet, Patty Hearst was verbally and sexually abused and she was denied the use of even a toilet or toothbrush if she didn’t tell them that she agreed with the group’s ideas and beliefs. It is believed that while being locked in the closet like this, Patty was being brainwashed by the SLA and that she may have even developed Stockholm Syndrome, a condition in which a person who was kidnapped starts to empathise with their captor, and even starts defending them. This is how the Symbionese Liberation Army convinced Patty Hearst to join their group. They released an audio tape to the public in which Patty Hearst said she was changing her name to Tania and that she had decided to join the SLA. She then helped the SLA rob a bank and steal an ammunition belt from a sports store. After this, she started travelling around the country with two members of the SLA named John and Emily Harris, to try avoid being captured by the police. During this time, the police found a house where some members of the SLA were hiding out. Attempts to make the SLA members surrender ended up in a massive gunfight, ultimately ending up in the deaths of 6 SLA members. The FBI eventually found and arrested Patty Hearst on September 18, 1975. T...

“The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could, but when he ventured upon insult I vowed revenge” (Poe 173) is how the story begins. Straight to the point and certain, it is clear to see that Montresor has an unstable state of mind. Edgar Allan Poe’s short story “The Cask of Amontillado” shows this through Montresor’s perseverance, his plan of retribution, and his verbal statements.
...her and the more modern case of Brian Walski demonstrates the importance of ethics in the mass media. With the public dependent on photographers for images that will give an accurate and true representation of the facts, in some cases even leading to such important decisions as giving relief aid, waging war, or determining votes in an election, it is vitally important that journalistic images be true and unaltered likenesses of real persons and events. Even apparently innocent misrepresentations, designed to create a better image or better prove a point, can have serious consequences for the photographer, the subjects of the image, and the public. It is a reminder of the importance of honesty in all professions.
By having these pictures in place while reading the article the reader will be taken away by the pictures and take a stance on whether or not Melgar is innocent. Of course, by over emphasizing the crime that took place and using non humanizing photographs, the audience is more prone to believe she is guilty due to their lack of prior knowledge of the case. With this in mind the medium was using a social breakdown frame that states a crime occurred due to a family breakdown. According to the article, Melgar wanted a divorce but because she was a religious individual in which her religion disapproved of divorce, her only choice was to kill her husband to be single again. In addition to that, they also made her seem as if she wanted the money that was under her husband's life insurance, a total of $250,000 that of course the article did not fail to include. Through these the social break down frame is portrayed through making it seem as if Melgar was unhappy with her family and wanted an out, so she turned to crime to solve this issue. With the use of this frame the audience was also able to see multiple ‘what ifs’ explanations as to why the crime might have taken place, convincing them more that Melgar is the only one to

Gender stereotypes and biasses exist in media. In most situations, women are associated with more negative stereotypes and their portrayals can “undermine their presence by being “hyper-attractive” or “hyper-sexual” and/or passive” (Smith, 2008). In The Wolf of Wall Street women are objectified. They are treated

In contrast to the layout of ‘The Sun’, ‘The Times’ puts this story on page three because it does not think it is newsworthy for the front-page and its style of readers. ‘The Times’ also has a smaller e-fit picture than ‘The Sun’, it is made up of two columns both of which have small paragraphs...
In an advertisement published in Vogue Paris in February 2009, Steven Klein photographs fashion model Lara Stone in a manner that brought much controversy to the world about women and violence. In the photograph, a fashionably clad woman in lingerie is forcibly held down by a naked man, while a police officer poses suggestively on her legs and points a gun in her face. This advertisement seems excessively violent for a fashion magazine that young girls and the majority of the mainstream world idolize. By condoning and making the type of violence that is popular in fashion magazines ‘cool’, people begin to recreate the scenes in these photographs in real life because they are constantly exposed to it. Furthermore, this constant exposure to violence
