A great way to make social studies more fascinating to students is through the use of primary sources. Primary sources are objects that have some type of reference to history that may include journals, documents, artifacts, jewelry, pictures, clothing, along with much more. These objects are one of the best ways to enhance social studies instruction in the classroom. Primary sources are a great tool to get students intrigued with the curriculum topic that is being covered in class along with being able to create meaning to the topic being discussed. More and more schools are cutting back on their social studies program and forced to incorporate social studies into other subjects to make sure students are getting some social studies in. However, there are resources in the community to help with including primary sources in the classroom like the Joslyn Art Museum. This museum let’s individuals rent out trunks that are designed to different cultures like Ancient Greek, Native Americans, or Ancient Egypt. Some of the trunks contained pieces like vases from the Ancient Egypt times which allows students to develop a deeper level of thinking when they see sources like this. Another great way to have access to primary sources is through online resources. According to Lamb and Johnson, primary sources are a great digital tool to incorporate in lessons like online articles, books, info graphics, legal documents, letters, and photographs (2013). Primary sources make learning more fun for students and lets students see a way into the culture from back then. A picture of a primary source can be useful, but there is nothing like having an actual prop to represent the material you are covering for that
When it comes to learning about events and people in history, nothing beats a primary source. There is information directly from the event and there are no worries about incorrect data because the author was there to witness said event. But the main problem with primary sources is the fact that it only covers part of the story. So if a book is written about, say, the concentration camps of World War II, then all that it would be about would be that persons view of the camps, not what was happening during the actually war. This is where secondary sources come in. Secondary sources are written by authors who were not involved in the event, but rather did research on said event and wrote a novel covering what they believe to be all important aspects. Secondary sources are helpful when wanting to know more than just one aspect of an event, for example, you can know what was happening with the ally powers and axis powers, rather than just one or the other. Despite not being involved in the events, secondary sources still tend to contain bias. This essay will cover the bias of the novel Over Here: How the G.I. Bill Transformed the American Dream, by Edward Humes and how this either helped to prove or disprove his thesis.
In order for a work to be considered a primary literature, it must have been written by professors or researchers who are reporting original findings and it must consist of a specialized format that includes abstracts and reference lists

The education of an author on their topic is the biggest contributor to their reliability; having enough prior knowledge and background information on a subject is crucial when providing a historical analysis. An author’s personal background is of great importance as well, because their personal heritage and beliefs may lead to bias and misrepresentation of information, which removes all credibility of them and/or their work as source. Partiality, favoritism, and/or prejudice towards a specific demographic can create a blurred line between what is fact and what is opinion, which in turn can allow for personal assessments to be presented as arguments and facts even though they have been influenced to a great extent by prior thoughts and opinions.
My last source was the web. Were I found information on all the riots that happened during the civil war. By using the CRAPP test I was able to chose this website as good information on the riots.

For example, I learned that if a husband or wife died half way sea, the other person is held responsible for paying for the dead (Hollitz, 45). The pictures and maps also enhanced the way information can be interpreted through primary sources. The paintings of Puritan children clearly demonstrate their feelings and attitude. I was able to see through their uncomfortable position, life style, and virtue by observing their posture, facial expression, and the way they dress. The primary source documents turned out to be very useful in many ways that assisted me to come up with a better understanding in details with chapter 2-4 in Give Me Liberty.

Students face “an ocean of information” today, much of it of poor quality, so a better approach would be to teach students how to “triangulate” a source like Wikipedia, so they could use other sources to tell whether a given entry could be trusted. “I think our goal should be to equip students with the critical thinking skills to judge.”

Addressing Sociology In taking sociology 101 this semester, I have truly learned a lot about the different aspects and perspectives that sociologists take on society. There is more to human behavior than just being happy or sad or depressed etc. Sociologists go into further detail into explaining why people feel the way they do or think the way that they do. For example, my personal favorite chapter throughout this text, chapter six, has done a great deal in explaining social control and deviance. It is for a fact, like Conley stated, “It is the deviants among us who hold society together.”
Currently, I find myself to use pictures to comprehend new information even a child as well. When I was learning about World War II in middle school, I discovered that the images of the war were very intriguing than reading a textbook in social studies class. In the book, Persepolis, by Marjane Satrapi, this piece of literature included so much history that had been tied into the novel displaying comic strips of what Satrapi imagined from her childhood, what had really happened and the life the people in Iran experienced in times of war. Not only the Iran-Iraq War has images that depict the tragic event, but the Holocaust can be taught through pictures as well. A hot topic that always draws an interested ear to the conversation is ones' views on social justice. The mere mention of the words draws people from far and wide and from all mixes of society. The main problem seems to come up when people really don't know what social justice issues face their society and the rest of the world. The question comes up of how much real knowledge of this subject do people invest in. It is quite surprising how many half truths that run rampant in any society. The whole idea around the word social is society but they tend to be for the most part in the dark on the subject. The people who have the monopoly of truth are the people instituting the injustice and the few who are publicly opposing them.
Finding out about antiques, relics, and customs through narrating has formed who I am. These three things have inhabited of all societies to realize who they are. Family customs demonstrate how individuals experience their lives and cooperate with others. They additionally indicate how individuals respond when a relative weds into a group of an alternate ethnic foundation. Relics are great cases of material things that can instruct about one 's family history. Antiquities show who individuals are. This is valid for every single ethnic foundation.
Through out life people go through so many hardships. Whether it be good or bad there is always something that comes out of the situation. One of the most exciting but yet scariest events would be graduation. For a lot of people, graduating from high school is a goal. It takes a lot of time and effort to achieve that goal. In the long run, it opens a lot of opportunities for people to succeed. Graduation is the end of high school, and the beginning to life.
