Conduct primary immigration inspection of all classes of applicants for admission to the United States. Perform inspection with the aim of quickly determining, by questioning, behavioral observation, database queries, and by reviewing his or her identifying papers, whether an applicant may be admitted without further formality or whether there are questions or indications of problems that require a more detailed examination and require referral to other inspectors for a more detailed inspection secondary inspection. Conduct, for the U.S. Customs Service, the primary inspection and examination of arriving persons, baggage, merchandise, and other items and, the conveyances in which any or all of these are being transported to the United States. This includes determining the dutiability of merchandise and verifying the merchandise in a carrier's possession against invoices, bills of lading, or other documents. In addition,conduct inspections for the Public Health Service, Plant Quarantine Division of the Department of Agriculture and U.S. Fish & Wildlife. In addition, gather, make use of, and disseminate intelligence information to other law enforcement officers and/or refer the information to the immigration inspector (intelligence) stationed at the port.
