Argumentative Paper Revision
According to Kenneth W. Krause, “abortion might be the most inscrutable cultural issue of our time.” As a result of this enduring controversy, two opposing groups emerged: those who feel that abortion should be illegalized, the “pro-life” side, and those who believe that even though it may be an undesirable practice, abortion must remain legal, the “pro-choice” side. With research supported by science and ethics, it is evident that abortion is a “necessary evil” (Williams). The legalization of abortion provides protection of a woman’s right to control her own body, supports the prevention of risky, illegal abortions, and ensures that there will always be a choice concerning the immense, life-long responsibility that accompanies bringing a child into the world.
It is a woman’s right to determine what is best for her body, and that right is protected under the law. Motherhood should not become a punishment for sexual intercourse. “President Barack Obama said during a Mar. 29, 2008 campaign speech in Johnston, Pennsylvania, ‘I have two daughters… I’m going to teach them first about values and morals, but if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby’” (http://abortion.procon.org/). Although abstinence is the best form of pregnancy prevention, humans are prone to making mistakes, but it is never acceptable to use parenthood as a penalty. The Supreme Court case of Roe vs. Wade was the first time federal action was taken regarding the issue of abortion. The case declared the majority of state anti-abortion laws unconstitutional, and established guidelines based on a pregnancy trimester organization; these new rules allowed states to regulate abortion during the second (weeks 13-28) and thi...

...esirable, it must remain an option for women. The practice of abortion is justified due to its proven ability to protect a woman’s rights, prevent unsafe, illegal abortions, and ensure that the choice will always be in the hands of those affected, not those who wrongfully judge.
