President’s Task Force on 21 Century(2015), states community policing is a philosophy that promotes organizational strategies that support the systematic use of partnerships and problem-solving techniques to proactively address the immediate conditions that give rise to public safety issues such as crime, social disorder, and fear of crime. In my opinion, successful community policing initiatives involve transformational changes within the organizational structure and how day to day operations are handled. Furthermore, things such as a change in management policies, command structure, and training can help officers adjust to the community they have been sworn to protect. One can agree that crime fighting is incorporated into the goals of community policing by empowering folks to reinforce the laws “see something say something” slogan is one example. According to IACP(2015) civilians comprise as much as 30 to 50% of the staff of many police departments. These folks can serve in support roles such as administration, dispatch recordkeeping and crime scene techs. The good thing about using community citizens in a department is one it frees up sworn officers to be out on the streets more and secondly, it promotes togetherness …show more content…

One could agree, community policing should be focused on changing the way in which citizens respond to police in more constructive and proactive ways. A few things should be recommended changing the departments policy especially those folks of color, working with schools to provide the right information to the youth but give them positive reinforcement in a collective effort all will help with crime reduction personal pride in one community and
