The president is the head of the country, the main focal point of public life. The presidency of a country is the position of being the president. Since the Founding era, the presidency in the United States has gone through many changes. America is a constitutional democratic country, which has two main political parties. Americans are afraid of having a kingship or a tyrant. Therefore, three branches were developed under the constitution------legislative, executive, and judicial. The executive branch is headed by the early presidency. Undergone many changes, presidential power grew. The New Jersey plan was introduced and was to protect the power of small states and it preferred a weak executive. The scopes of presidential power, veto power, relationship to congress are parts of the debates. “The national government had so little power to control the states that the confederation seemed to be but a ‘cobweb’. Congress did not even have the authority to regulate commerce among states”(page 5). Under the Articles of confederation, Congress had little or no power to regulate states, which led the country to a dire economic situation. In order to change these situations, Americans had constitutional convention. “The executive power should be vested in a president of the United States of America”(page 13). Started by Article II of the Constitution, it listed potential but limited enumerated powers for the president. He passed the New Deal to help the social and economic recovery. He also passed severed plans that played important roles in business among countries, such as FDIC, SEC, etc. He created plenty of new government programs, such as providing relief and jobs for the unemployed, etc. These programs had provided many jobs for people. A tiny office had become a larger one with more staff. FDR appointed the Brownlow Commission to advise him how to deal with bureaucracy that had expanded quite large efficiently and effectively. Then, the president created the Executive Office of the President and an advisory group to assist in running the government. The staff in the White House has expanded over time. “He pioneered the use of ‘fireside chats’ over radio to explain his actions to the people”(page 21). He communicated with the public, the “Fireside Chats” had helped him to expand his public role. Lyndon B. Johnson‘s great society was a set of domestic programs. It addressed education, medical care problems, and etc. Unlike the traditional presidency, he created a proposal budget for his programs, and bargained with congress.
