Thank you for reviewing my application to your pre-doctoral internship training program at Montana State University’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS). I am currently in my third year, as a clinical psychology doctoral student at Midwestern University (MWU), an APA accredited program located in Glendale, AZ. I am confident that my clinical experiences, along with my interests, make me an excellent applicant for your program.
During my first year of graduate school, I was fortunate to receive a training opportunity at MWU’s outpatient psychology clinic, located within their multispecialty clinic. This experience provided exposure to therapy, intake interviews, psychological assessments, integrated healthcare, client screening

Therefore, I was ecstatic that one of CPS’ primary training goals is to prepare interns to function as independent and generalist clinicians. My graduate program utilizes a generalist approach within their training model, which has provided me with multifaceted experiences. For example, I have experience with group therapy, individual therapy, intake assessments, developing treatment plans, and crisis management in a 24-hour residential setting. Likewise, I have experience with intake assessments, group therapy, individual therapy, care coordination, and completed staffings, and crisis intervention on an inpatient unit. I also gained psychological and neuropsychological testing experience with children and adults (e.g., administration, scoring, interpretation, and report writing). Finally, I have actively participated in individual and group supervision, which helped increase personal and professional insight, reflect on challenges, and promote overall growth. Therefore, I am dedicated to taking advantage of the generalist training and experiences, as well as the expansive supervision opportunities provided by …show more content…
Throughout my first year of graduate school, I had the opportunity to obtain observatory experiences at MWU’s multispecialty clinic within the primary care clinic, occupational manipulative medicine clinic, clinical psychology clinic, and dentistry clinic. Rotating through each of the respective clinics allowed me to learn about and observe how each of the professions are interconnected and how a Level 4 integrated model improves client care. Likewise, my clinical experience at a psychiatric inpatient facility exposed me to a Level 5 integrated model. Specifically, I worked in the same office and on the same medical record system as nurses, nurse practitioners, care coordinators, clinical psychologists, and behavioral health technicians. Overall, my experience with integrated care helped prepare me for approaching treatment in a more integrated, whole-body wellness manner. Therefore, I believe the interdisciplinary opportunities provided by CPS would prepare me for an integrated healthcare-oriented career within a university
In my clinical experiences in Canada and the United States, I managed patients that had co-morbidities that with appropriate psychiatric care, and psychopharmacology, not only were able to improve physiologically, but also were able to have a more meaningful life. Because of my passion for Psychiatry I have consistently been involved with Psychiatry CMEs, attended Psychiatry conferences as well as had hands on clinical rotations in Adult Psychiatry, both inpatient and outpatient. I have started working with a reputable university in Canada as a Program assistant to help improve the professional life of internationally trained Medical Professionals.
Rather than preparing graduates in education or consulting as previous graduate nursing programs had done, this program educated psychiatric-mental health nurses as therapists with the ability to assess and diagnose mental health issues as well as psychiatric disorders and treat them via individual, group, and family therapy (ANA, 2014). Thus, the Psychiatric Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist (PMH-CNS), one of the initial advanced practice nursing roles (Schmidt, 2013), was born. After Community Mental Health Centers Act of 1963 led to deinstitutionalization of individuals with mental illness, PMH-CNSs played a crucial role in reintegrating formerly institutionalized individuals back into community life (ANA, 2014). PMH-CNSs have been providing care in a wide range of setting and obtaining third-party reimbursement since the late 1960’s. In 1974 a national certification for PMH-CNSs was created (APNA, 2010). Subsequently, PMH-CNSs began to be granted prescriptive privileges in the Pacific Northwest in the late 1970s, that practice has now spread to 37 states and the District of Columbia (APNA,
The American Counseling Association is the largest professional counselor association in the world and serves over 56,000 helpers by providing resources and tools to utilize for best practices in the counseling field (ACA, n.d.). As an ACA member, professional counselors have access to professional journals, webinars, forums and other mediums that can strengthen and enhance helping skills and best practices. It would be of great advantage for both graduate students training in a counseling field, as well as professional counselors working in their field to take advantage of the being a member of the ACA.
My interest in pursuing a doctorate degree in counseling psychology has been influenced by a combination of life experiences and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Though the path which has led me to this destination is complex, the journey has provided me with the clarity and insight necessary to understand human behavior from a holistic perspective. As I approach the completion of my masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, I am faced with the unsettling realization that I have more questions than I do answers. This has fueled my innate desire and motivation to continue challenging myself by attaining a doctorate degree from the University of North Texas.
I am currently lined up to help with home-visits for the mentally ill as an intern, and in the next couple years I hope to have the opportunity to sit in on psychological sessions at the nearby Leavenworth Penitentiary. I am also involved in the Psychology Club on campus and have met with several professors to talk about the best ways for me to pursue my ambitions. To prepare for the financial burden of my education, I write scholarships on top of working summers and, starting next year, during the school year. I’ll do whatever it takes to ensure that I am prepared to follow in the footsteps of Doctor Oliver
My vision as a practitioner scholar in the field of psychology lies in clinical counseling. As a clinical counselor
Many graduate nurses will seek jobs in traditional medical settings. Theses settings can include the emergency department, long-term care, outpatient clinics, medical-surgical inpatient floors and intensive care units. Graduate nurses must remember that they will at some point encounter a patient that is also diagnosed with a mental illness in any of these settings. It is imperative that the nurse feel competent in his or her ability to asses and treat these patients. The gradua...
In light of my pre-practicum, I have undergone many transformations including: academically, individually, psychologically, and socially. Besides, this pre-practicum experience remained undoubtedly one of the best learning exercises that I have been involved with. This agency has helped me to empathize with the struggle of the client with HIV/AIDS within and outside the LGBTQ community. It created an awareness in me that assisting those in need really renews another person’s hope, and that in turn may cause them to pass that hope on. Through this experience, I have appreciated that I am exactly where I want to be, and have learned the realities of being a counselor in an agency. I feel that this experience has given me a perspective that I will value throughout my

Clinical psychology is just one of the many subfields that psychology has to offer. Those who choose to enter clinical psychology aim to help people with addiction, emotional stress, mental illness, or any other type of mental problems. Knowing what a clinical psychologist does in their practice is important in understanding their profession. A clinical psychologist's education is the most prominent part of their career; without it, they cannot be considered a psychologist. The process and requirements of employment for psychologists are scattered, varying from state to state, as well as their salary and where they may be employed. The future and growth of clinical psychology can only be determined by the success of this career today. My purpose for this paper is to research the education, the process and requirements of employment, plus the salary and places for employment for psychologists.
program in Clinical psychology with a concentration in Neuropsychology. I aspire to become a proficient Clinical Neuropsychologist in a hospital or private practice and later, hopefully open my own research center. I am fascinated by the complexity of the human brain and its endless capabilities. I yearn to continue learning about the brain and apply the knowledge I have gained to improving the quality of people 's life. With this in mind, conducting research is an imperative aspect of any psychology graduate program. This prestigious internship will introduce and provide me with the background on research that I will utilize during my graduate experience and beyond. It will enhance my analytical thinking skills and build upon my hands on laboratory experience. The program will equip me with knowledge and skills, which are valuable to my academic and career
I believe placing student nurses in the clinical setting is vital in becoming competent nurses. Every experience the student experiences during their placement has an educative nature therefore, it is important for the students to take some time to reflect on these experiences. A specific situation that stood out to me from my clinical experience was that; I didn’t realize I had ignored the patient’s pain until I was later asked by the nurse if the patient was in any pain.
While it is true that comfort women came from multiple nationalities, the overwhelming majority of comfort women that were Korean (80%) is alarming and has caused not only Korean women activists but also researchers and historians to question the popularity of Korean women in the comfort system. Comparably, the number of Chinese and Taiwanese military comfort women is also high to that of Japanese women. In fact, the number of comfort women from occupied areas including Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands are considerably higher than the number of Japanese comfort women. This statistic has caused controversy about Japan’s treatment of these nations during the war. It has also caused strife with political activist groups, like the Korean
This week’s clinical experience has been unlike any other. I went onto the unit knowing that I needed to be more independent and found myself to be both scared and intimidated. However, having the patients I did made my first mother baby clinical an exciting experience. I was able to create connections between what I saw on the unit and the theory we learned in lectures. In addition, I was able to see tricks other nurses on the unit have when providing care, and where others went wrong. Being aware of this enabled me to see the areas of mother baby nursing I understood and areas I need to further research to become a better nurse.
As a gynecology intern for 6 months, I saw the joy and happiness of a family when they saw the newborn’s face. I witnessed infertile women trying to conceive a child as hard as they could. My hands on clinical experience at many esteemed hospitals provided me with unique opportunities to immerse myself in the medical system and enhance my communication skills with patients of various age groups. Working with Dr. Nasreen Kader and Dr. Mustaq Siddique helped me realize the many psychological issues that mentally ill children, adolescent and adult patients have, and how their loved ones cope. I witnessed a 22 year old patient with schizophrenia and how his family attempted to live as much of a normal life as they
