The 2008 Documentary “Pray the Devil Back to Hell” tells the story of the fourteen-year civil conflict in Liberia, which was devastating and had a huge impact on the country's citizens. It is estimated that more than 250,000 people died and about 60% of the population took refuge in neighboring countries. Women were adversely affected and victimized by war, but also participated actively while soldiers and in the activities of peacemaking and peacebuilding.

Overall, women in Liberia experienced the conflict differently. The differences depended on factors such as age, ethnicity and origin, which directly influenced the roles they played.
