Power corrupts people because they are able to do whatever they want and they are able to control what happens to the people that are asking for help or that you’re in charge of. This can make people feel like they’re the best person in the world because they have control over someone else and they have the power to do what they want to you. In the article The Man in The Well the kids had the power over the man in the well because he was stuck in the well and had no control over what the kids did. The prisoners had to listen to what the guards say because the prisoners were in jail for the experiment. This made the guards feel like they could tell the prisoners to do whatever they wanted them to do. This also made the guards harass the prisoners and act nasty and mean to them. Since this was an experiment, none of the prisoners or guards got hurt but some of them went mentally insane. The people doing the experiment wanted it to feel as real as possible. The people assigned to the prisoner part got “arrested” from their homes with no notice of when. When they were “arrested” the prisoners were taken down to their nearest police station and stripped of their belongings and put into uniforms. The people that tested normal for this experiment were typically the ones who went mentally insane. One of the prisoners had to be released after 36 hours because they couldn’t handle the experiment. The people holding the experiment had to end it short because it was getting dangerous because people were getting diagnosed with deep depression.
