The Political Correctness movement has affected the way society views culture nowadays because, there is a rise in feminism, colleges now prohibit certain words and sayings, and people have to generalize holidays. The PC movement has been on the rise in the last 20 years. One major group it has affected is a group called feminist. Feminism is a campaign for women’s rights to provide equality. Just Words is a campaign that raises awareness of how words can impact one another and to encourage others to try and think about what words that should not be used. The colleges are using this campaign by putting up posters all around to make sure the students are recognizing what is going on. UW-Milwaukee shows posters with words that they do not want students to use and the meaning to how the words are offensive. The article says, “...Just Words posters include: ‘lame’ which ‘ridicules and ignores the lives of amputees’; ‘man up,’ which ‘suggests there is only one way to be a man, also suggests that women can’t be courageous, strong, etc.’”(Melchior). This shows how there are phrases that many people would not consider offensive that are now considered to be offensive and are strongly frowned upon to use. The colleges are following the PC movement by sort of banning these words on campus to try to avoid any conflict. The PC movement is in effect with colleges to keep everyone happy and to not offend
The word feminism is sometimes misinterpreted and associated with female superiority and hatred of men, although most people probably agree that feminism can mean the desire for social and economic parity. There is so much baggage surrounding this term that clarification of what feminism is and is not, is essential. Indeed, the way feminism has developed has not been pretty. “Feminism over the years have [sic] evolved away from its noble purpose of creating awareness and defending women rights to creating new ridiculous ‘belief systems.’...feminism has become more like a medium for angry women to vent their hatred and frustration towards man”(“Feminism is Chauvinism”). This definition goes completely against the true meaning of what feminism entails. Feminism can be defined as a fundamental respect for others and the desire for equality between men and women.
“Feminism”, as defined today, is “1: the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes,” and “2: organized activity on behalf of women’s rights and interests.”2 Many critics claim that feminism has been active longer than the word itself has existed.3 The word, “feminist” was not in true use until the late 1800s and early 1900s, but activism for women’s rights was alive and well a...
Feminism is used to show that men and woman should be on equal playing fields when it comes to political, social, and economic matters. Those who practice feminism; rather feminists, advocate for equality between man and woman. women are viewed as homemakers and caretakers. Whereas men are the antithesis, being viewed as breadwinners. We have been taught this from a young age in the most surprising places. Fairytales we have read or watched have had a hand in this. With the strong belief and desire to have equality for all people, feminists shape our society in ways to which they fight for the betterment of humans. “Feminist” is a genderless and raceless noun, meaning anyone can be a feminist if they please. Feminism is performed and executed differently amongst varying communities—such as white, black, or brown communities. There are no written procedures one must do or go through to become a part of feminism. The only requirements for feminism are having the personal want for equality, and the personal preference to be labeled as a feminist. Many times, people think of feminism to be a movement in which women try to become superior to men. Along with this, being called a “feminist” to some is frowned upon and seen as a form of domination. These thoughts tend to be due to the lack of understanding feminism. What many people believe to be the hatred for men and the
Feminism is a theory that comes from the perception of women and is a movement to change position of women to obtain equality and equality with men. Feminism is not a struggle for the emancipation of women in the presence of men only, because they are also aware that men also suffer as a result of domination. Historically, the feminist movement was born from the beginning of the rise of women to shift the status as being second only to men in this world. The feminist movement evolved in medieval Europe, namely in the 16-18 century AD at that time women were secretly start small movements to challenge male dominance. The official definition of feminism, defined by the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, is “the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities”. The issue with this definition is that it does not give an accurate view of the wide range of feminism. This definition is also not consistent throughout society. Dictionary.com, states that feminism is “the doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men”. This is an issue. Even though these definitions are similar, how are we supposed to understand this if we do not have a consistent definition? This is a topic is becoming increasingly popular in the last few years. It has become at the top one percent of lookups on Merriam-Webster Dictionary.
...n the January 1993 Library Journal, makes a similar suggestion: "Ultimately, however, we hope we use language that is more sensitive without enforcing strident political correctness or orthodoxy." We, as a society, are so concerned about avoiding confrontations that we are going overboard changing non-offensive names. The attempt to avoid possible protests of sensitive pressure groups by sanitizing our language is, in my opinion, censorship.

Feminism is a movement that seek to achieve equality and social rights for women in all key areas which includes education, personal, economic, employment, and cultural sphere of human endeavors. Feminism is the advocacy of women’s rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes. In simple terms, it is the ideology of women being equal to men and it is often misinterpreted as the belief of women being above them. Feminists believe in diminishing patriarchy which is a system of society and or government in which men are considered more powerful than women. When people are against feminism they are supporting sexism which is why it is important to educate ourselves on the matter and to understand why we need it.
Feminism, in its simplest definition, is the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. (Webster) Feminists fight for equality for women to men socially, politically, and economically. At the peak of feminist discourse is equality for men and women in education and in employment. However, feminism also focuses on more than issues regarding the rights of women in relation to men. Issues of gender equality and women’s right to control their sexuality are also at the core of feminist theory. A key argument made by many feminists is how women have very little control over their sexuality, mainly being defined and controlled by men. T...

All feminism movements fight for equal rights, but it cannot be conquered or be made known all at once. First wave feminism was mostly about women’s suffrage and political equality in general. Second wave feminism went more in depth about the social and cultural inequalities.
What is feminism anyway? Feminism cannot be tied down to a single definition because not all feminists believe in the same thing, they all have their own different set of beliefs. Feminist literary theory according to Lois Tyson (1999, p. 81) examines the ways in which literature reinforces or undermines the economic, political, social and psychological oppression of women. This song speaks about the inequality of women. In the first line of the first verse, it says ‘You have got the words to change a nation but you are biting your tongue’, this clearly describes patriarchy. Patriarchy, is the syst...
Feminism is the result of the woman’s liberation movement, which began in the 18th century and gained momentum in the late 19th century after it was found that males were completely dominating every area of life. Feminism is defined as the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes. It began as an organized activity on behalf of women?s rights and interests. This concept was developed to help women earn a place in a predominantly male society. Unfortunately over the years, the intentions of feminism have become distorted, not only by anti-feminists, but also by the feminists themselves. The principle of equality for women and men has turned into a fight in which feminists wish to be better than men. Feminism has been twisted and misunderstood so much that it has become a harmful idea.
