Religious Doctrine of the Play Everyman “EVERYMAN” or “The Summoning of Everyman” is one of the fundamental and moral plays, played in the 15th century. It is found that unidentified person or group of clergy has written it in order to make people realize the true meaning of the life, bestowed by the almighty God (John, 2006). However, there are also other famous 15th century plays that have disseminated significant and positive effects in the society, but, EVERYMAN has outperformed other plays in terms of content and instruction. In fact, it is written with the help of allegory, a figure of speech. The mysterious author or authors has included and embodied intangible concepts, such as death, knowledge, good deeds, beauty, strength, wits, discretion, and confession in this play. The story of the said play revolves around god’s summon to humans by means of sending a messenger (death) to the earth and the human’s perception of the true meaning and his realization of the life and salvation. In EVERYMAN, many doctrines are directly or indirectly are associated. To begin with, it throws the light on the fall of man occurrence. The fall is a term in which humans start converting from innocent people to the disobedient people in the eye of the God (Vocht, 1963). And hence, the God has started aberrance on the earth. This is depicted in the drama as well when the God finds irking settings on the earth, created by human beings, where human beings continue practicing world pleasures in spite of the God’s standards’ awareness. It without a doubt displeases the God and so he sends his messenger, death to call back humans, who fail to perform the given duties.
