Everyone has flaws that they would like to change, and a lot of people choose to make that change, or changes, in order to achieve perfection; as a result, they turn to plastic surgery hoping to achieve that perfection that they desire so earnestly. There is a good side to plastic surgery. I personally have had plastic surgery at a very young age. When I was just two years old, I was bit in the face by a dog. The bite was so severe that the inside of my mouth could almost be seen through the front side of my face. I had to undergo plastic surgery with a follow up of stitches. One personal flaw that may be seen by one person, may not be seen by another. In this day in age people see flaws as things that need to be corrected; as a result, people who see others that, in their opinion, have no flaws have less confidence in themselves because they see others as being perfect and they feel left out. Linker said, “It hurts young woman by afflicting emotions of low-self esteem and worth if they feel they cannot meet these standards.” Society has set such a high standard for outward appearances. “Plastic surgery can be detrimental to society as a whole” (Linker). Nobody is perfect; therefore, people turn to plastic surgery in order to achieve their desired perfection. Not only do others who have had plastic surgery affect the self-esteem of others, but even after having the surgery it can lead to damaging one’s confidence. According to Linker, “Many people who have had surgery have a result of unaddressed psychological issues.” Plastic surgery also can make a person’s look appear distorted due to getting surgery again to fix something from the previous surgery, having too much surgery done, and the surgery not being constructed properly.
