Lady Wisdom has built and furnished her home with seven hewn timbers. The seven hewn timbers that I feel support finding wisdom are knowledge, understanding, common sense, clear thinking, virtue, insight, and discretion.
Pillar 1 & Pillar 2: Knowledge & Understanding
With knowledge comes understanding which is why I paired these pillars together in the pursuit of wisdom. Knowledge is needed to begin to understand the world around us. While knowledge is a good start to wisdom it is not the complete journey. Understanding of the knowledge presented is necessary to move forward into action. Seeking to understand where another person is coming from rather than cast judgement comes with maturity and ultimately wisdom. These are both crucial gifts to pursue throughout life as we are continuously learning. When knowledge and understanding are separated from each

As knowledge lives in harmony with understanding the same can be said of common sense and clear thinking. Clear thinking is needed to see beyond the surface of life’s complexities. The ability to critique a situation and look past the messy baggage that people lug around with them requires strength. When there is the strength in a person to view both the good and the ugly in the world the journey to wisdom follows. Common sense aids in clear thinking by steering a person towards wisdom and away from ugly gossip that spreads like wildfire which only keeps people down.
Pillar 5: Virtue
Virtues are guiding lights to help people through life’s long and winding roads. A moral compass is needed help people make decisions. Mistakes will be made along the way but allowing them to be a learning experience opens the doors to wisdom. To appreciate life’s virtues there must also be an understating of life’s vices. Money, power, and jealousy are tempting though they hinder one’s path to wisdom dragging people down along the way.
Pillar 6:
Foremost, the word virtue itself means needing to do good and avoid evil in its two
Virtue ethics is an approach that “deemphasizes rules, consequences and particular acts and places the focus on the kind of person who is acting” (Garrett, 2005). A person’s character is the totality of his character traits. Our character traits can be goo...
The virtues I am lacking is piety and justice. Piety is not a strong division for me because of the beliefs I have when it comes to the gods. I do not believe that the world came from one or more gods, and the Earth was created a different way. Justice is also lacking from my lifestyle because I do not give everything their proper due. This is difficult for me because the proper due is not clear as other things are in my

Virtue theory is the best ethical theory because it emphasizes the morality of an individual in which their act is upon pure goodness and presents as a model to motivate others. Aristotle was a classical proponent of virtue theory who illustrates the development habitual acts out of moral goodness. Plato renders a brief list of cardinal virtues consisting of wisdom, temperance, courage, and justice. This ethical theory prominently contradicts and links to other theories that personifies the ideal being. However, virtue theorists differ from their own expression of these qualities yet it sets a tone that reflects on the desire to express kindness toward others.
Practical wisdom is changeable and involves desires, pleasures and pains, it is also the knowledge of the best action. “It follows that, in general a man with practical wisdom is he who has the ability to deliberate” (1140a28). Aristotle is arguing that practical wisdom generally instructs a person to live well and in service of what is good, because it is a truthful and rational characteristic. “But it is also clear that… no choice will be right without practical wisdom and virtue. For virtue determines the end, and practical wisdom makes us do what is conducive to the end” (1145a4). Acting out of practical wisdom allows a person to do just, noble and good things are what constitutes a good

"All of it is clear to a person who has understanding and right to those who have acquired knowledge." (Proverbs 8:6-9)
As a virtue it is a habit or disposition to perform the action with the highest degree of adequacy under any given circumstance. This implies a possession or seeking of knowledge of the given circumstances. This involves an understanding of people, things, events and situations and the willingness and the ability to apply perceptions, judgments and actions in keeping with an understanding of what is the right course of actions. It often requires control of one’s emptional reactions, so that universal principles, values, reason and knowledge prevail to determine one’s action. In short, wisdom is a disposition to find the coupled with optimum judgments as to right actions.
The Seven Virtues are separated into two different types of virtues. They are Theological and Cardinal Virtues, and they can be defined as the heart of our moral life. Virtues are healthy, good habits that help us to do well and empower us to become what God wants us to be. These personal qualities emphasize that who we are affects what we do. There are two types of virtues, Theological and Cardinal virtues. Theological Virtues: The theological virtues can be defined as gifts from God that empower us to be good so that we may do good. The three theological virtues are love, hope and faith. These are the three virtues that will combat the three of the deadly sins pride, envy and wrath. Also the reaming four out of the seven deadly sins being lust, greed, sloth and gluttony are combated by four Cardinal Virtues justice, prudence, temperance, and fortitude. While one set of laws tells a person what things to avoid in their lives to live a good Christian life, the other sets tells us how a person may combat these desire and what they can do to live a good Christian life.
Virtues are states of character that lie between the
In this regard, virtue theory assumes that, as humans, we acquire virtue through practice. Therefore, by practicing being honest, brave, just, generous, and compassionate, a person develops an honorable and moral character. Virtue ethics proposes that by honing these virtuous
It is true that virtues are not feelings because we are not moved by feelings because we do good and bad things depending on our virtues and vices not through how we are feeling. Someone will not commit murder because of his or her feelings but because of their vices that are playing in their head. No one is forced to do anything because of his or her feelings. Also the excellence of virtue is needed because it is what makes something good and allows it to function well. For example I believe god created excellence in our bodies and the ways in which we were created because through the excellence we are able to survive, breath, walk, and function well. This virtue is what makes us as people good because I believe we are all born good but what can change that is if a person develops bad habits, which would lead him or her to not function properly.
Virtue ethics is a school of thought we use every day and may not even know it. The term virtue ethics is a term for the theories that value character in a moral philosophy. Its means is to bring out the good in consequences. Virtue activists gain much of their ‘inspiration’ from Aristotle; striving to live by some of his advice such as, “Act as a virtuous person would act in your situation”. Similar to what most people consider the golden rule; “Do onto others as you would like done onto you”.
Common sense is to some degree instilled in all of us, it is something we are born with, if one believes it or not. It is something used every day, but we as humans do not realize it: for example, common sense is comparable to blinking; we do it without thought. The dictionary definition of common sense is, the ability to think and behave in a reasonable way and to make good decisions (Merriam-Webster). While that defines what common sense is, everyone has their own personal description and meaning. My opinion is, a sense of good judgment and thought process. When using good judgment, one thinks about how this will affect him or her now and in the future. Is it a smart decision with positive outcomes or a bad decision with regretful outcomes?
