My reflection of Piaget, and his views on the universal stages and content of development, is that children learn by hands on activity. Children needs to work on things for themselves to understand how things work and come together. According to Charlesworth (2016) Piaget came up with four stages of development sensorimotor stage age 0-2, this is when children begin to learn about the world. This is when they start to use all their sensory abilities touch, taste, sight, hearing, smell and muscular. (Charlesworth 2016.p9). He also believed that speech is the most important sign we had developed. Speech enables a child to interact socially and facilitates thinking. Learning the environment supports cognitive, due to the fact the environment has many things to offer. The sounds, we hear, the smells, colors we see and shapes that identify meaning of objects. These thing stimulates our brain to work more and all of our sense work together to identify certain things around us. Learning the environment can opening up a new world of imagination in young children. This can and will help them grow mentally and physically. The role of the teacher is very important, in keeping the child active and having different things a child can explore. A teacher having an opening ended conversation with a child can opening up their mind and use their cognitive skills to create more creative.
