I feel that I am a very hard worker. At my job I have now I am given a to-do list every day I come in and I more than likely finish the list and still have time to do other tasks. I don’t dilly dally around and waist time. I don’t like to stand still when I’m at work. I like to get there get everything done and then leave. Being a hard worker makes me also very dependable. My boss and other people can give me a task they can depend on me to get it done and taken care of and not have to worry about following back and making sure I did it right. In high school I was a life guard, this job required me to take a first aid and CPR certification class and recertified every two years after that. science field. Even when it comes to just volunteering places or shadowing most places would prefer that you take a first aid class prior to coming in. Throughout high school and middle school I was required to take computer classes where we were taught the basics on excel and all other Microsoft programs. I have continued to use this skill through my college classes and can use this as an advantage when looking for a job. I genuinely love to work with people that are similar to me. People who love and value their jobs and like to perform to their best abilities. Growing up me and my sister were raised by a single mother who constantly sacrificed things for us. I wake up every day wanting to succeed in order to make my mother proud and to be someone my younger sister can look up to. There are two career paths that would fit my skills, strength and passions right now.
Physical Therapy and Physician Assistant fill both of these paths. These two jobs entail work that can typically be scheduled and require work fast and efficient because patients don’t enjoy waiting past their appointment time. These patients also depend on physical therapist to correctly help them gain their mobility back and for physician assistants to asses, diagnose and prescribe them correctly. Each of these professionals enter in charts and patient information into computers using Microsoft programs. I want to be around people who love what they do and want to help others. work. With each path there are sub-disciplines, a few of these include anatomy, physics, introduction to exercise science, and biomechanics. These class will make or break you and most graduate schools for physical therapy and physician’s assistants determine if they will accept you on how well you did in these classes. The class that benefited me the is exercise science. This class is an eye opener and allows you to view all the other avenues you can go down with exercise science that you may have been biased towards. For basic knowledge in both fields it is important to do well in anatomy and physiology so you have an understanding of the bodies you will be working with daily. Physicians assistants often refer to the knowledge they learn from this class more so than physical therapist do. For physical therapy school, biomechanics and structural kinesiology are the most important classes. These classes allow you to understand the movement of the body and how to diagnose injuries. There is a lot of preparation required for a career in either physical therapy or a physician’s assistant.
This all begins you freshman year. Keeping your GPA up as much as possible is the first thing you can do to prepare for graduate school. Most importantly are your observation hours. Most graduate schools for both of these careers require over a hundred observation hours in order for you to even just apply let alone be accepted. Its best to get started on these early. These hours allow you to get experience in your field and prepare you for what is to come in your career. Both of these fields are extremely competitive and it’s important to make sure this is what you want to do and to stay focus and prepare as best as you can. PT hasn’t always been my number one choice until my senior year when I had to go through physical therapy. It’s become my passion because I would like to give back to physical therapy since it helped me so much in my own life but I plan to apply to PT and PA school just as a backup plan. The money in both of these fields is very nice but that’s not what I’m necessarily going for. I just recently volunteered at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro so that I can begin my observation hours through the summer which will give me a minimum of 40 hours. I plan to apply to multiple schools but the one I have my eyes on is Augusta University since I’m from Augusta and they have a respected program. They require a minimum GPA of a 3.0 and
at least 100 hours. The PA requirements are also the same. Preparation for both programs is very depending and stressful but at the end of the day it will all be worth it when I am where I am supposed to be. Helping people and enjoying a career that makes me happy and others happy is the goal and what all the work is for. I am more than prepared to be let down and have obstacles thrown my way and rely on my backup plan!
Physician assistants (PA's) practice medicine under the supervision of physicians and surgeons. PA's are trained to provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services, as delegated by a physician. They work with members of a healthcare team, they take medical histories, examine and treat patients, order and interpret laboratory tests and x rays, and make diagnoses. PAs may be the principal care providers in rural or inner city clinics where a physician is present for only one or two days each week. In such cases, the PA confers with the supervising physician and other medical professionals as
If you are a new student and are thinking about pursuing a career in the medical field, like me, you have a lot of options. You could become a Registered Nurse, a Physician, a Physician Assistant, a Dentist, an Audiologist, an Anesthesiologist or many other professions. In this article I am going to narrow it down for you between a Physician and a Physician Assistant and I am going to tell you why I would prefer being a Physician Assistant over the highly prestigious Physician career. Physician Assistant is a relatively new career and there are many misconceptions about what individuals with this title do in the medical field.
After review of my skills, interests, and experiences, I decided to pursue the medical career field as my first career choice, more specifically as a physician assistant. I will exceed in this position in the interest of that I like to help people and I solve problems well. Also, I communicate well with others and I have a great amount of patience. There are various careers that fit my skills and interests, but this one grabs my attention. My dream job is to be a doctor, but this occupation allows one to save money by lessening the years of school required. Also, the pay isn’t too shabby either. I will be successful in this position due to my skills, characteristics, and values, like honesty and helping others. Up to this point, I have job shadowed at a medical billing company and I like the idea of diagnosing and helping people, but a desk job is not ideal. Also, I took a medical terminology as a class and I discovered that I like how the body works and what it does. These factors have all influenced my career goal.
I believe that people everywhere should always have access to adequate medical care. Where you live should not determine whether you live, and the PA profession was created to improve the availability of healthcare in rural and other underserved areas. As a PA, I would be eager to help people have not had access to the care they needed. I want to serve those that need medical attention but don’t have the means to obtain it—whether in rural Michigan, the inner-city of Atlanta, or the backwoods of Arkansas. Making great medical care accessible to all is crucial to improving public health, and it is a necessity across this country and the world. As a physician assistant,
Becoming an Occupational Therapy Assistant has been an ambition of mine for several years now. After researching, job shadowing, and talking to professionals, I have decided to make Occupation Therapy my career. My passion is to help patients by participating and assisting them in their recovery from injuries and disabilities. My compassionate and caring attitude will be vital assets in pursuing this career. After training in Occupational Therapy, it is motivating for me to know that I will be a part of assisting patients to gain back their independence. Helping others is something that I am passionate about in my career and in my spare time. I have been on several mission trips to Haiti and other places which I have provided care for others in a medical setting.
health care team who, with doctors, provide quality care to patients. In order to do that,
My lifetime goal is helping others and I plan to use my career to fulfill it. The classes I’m taking right now and the ones I’m planning to take senior year are classes I believe will influence my decision in my college major/career as well as counting toward my GPA. This will help me get into schools who have medical programs that I’m considering. Also, taking AP classes can help me save money since I can earn college credit. I’m taking all AP classes, and the electives I’m taking have been classes that have helped me consider being in the medical field. I’ve found that over the years, science and math are what I’m doing better in versus history and english. I believe by being in the medical field, I can help others in the best way I can.
All my life I have known that I wanted to be involved in the medical field. At first, I wanted to be a Physical Therapist. The only problem was, I wasn’t excited about my possible future career. Then, I got offered a job doing in home care. I then knew I wanted to widened
I wanted to be in a healthcare profession where I know I could spend quality time with my patients, and be able to help them to improve their quality of life in all aspects. Occupational therapy was the perfect fit. I have found that occupational therapy, amongst others, is one of the most holistic health care professions and I am very proud to have chosen this as the career path to take. It is a profession that requires understanding, compassion, and sensitivity; all of the characteristics that I tremendously value . Occupational therapy is a career where there will certainly be much contribution to society and also bring enormous self-fulfillment.
With many medical careers students often get confused on what they really want to study, I have faced this problem myself and I know is not that easy due too many choices. There are many options ranging from healthcare to medical jobs. I have thoughtfully chosen to enter the program for Medical Assistant (MA). Ever since I was a child, I’ve spent most of childhood years at the Hospital, I was diagnosed with a rare condition that had to be treated continuously, this meant that I had to be going to checkups every three months so I was close to doctors, surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologist, medical assistants, etc. I remember at first I was frightened just of the thought of going to the doctor but after a few visits I got used to. The doctors and nurses were nice and caring and made me feel comfortable that I end up enjoying my doctor’s visits every time. Since then I decided I wanted to work in the medical field, this is my goal since I can remember. I have always enjoyed helping people in any way I possibly can. I chose to be a Medical Assistant because I think is great way to start my medical career going and programs are practical and not long.
but I have a pretty good idea as to what type of job it will be. I would like to go into the field of a physical therapist and sports medicine, I fell I will enjoy this more than any other type of career just because I already have a lot of interest in it. Sports medicine involves athletes who are constantly training to be in the best physical shape they can be in. It involves athletes with rehabilitation and supplements that they can take to help either recover faster or to help them perform better on their playing field. A lot of high caliber athletes such as olympians are involved in sports medicine, because it is able to get you back into your sport, faster and with less likelihood of re-injury.
All PA programs in the United States are accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant. Before the admission process to a PA school, the typical candidate usually hold a bachelor’s degree with around 45 months of experience in health care. The bachelor years is usually 4 years but there are acceleration programs that have a full 3 year time span. In order to be a competitive candidate for PA school, one should have their core science classes in good terms. Anything below a B does not look well and would bring their GPA down. Maintaining a competitive GPA of 3.5 or above is ideal, but there are other factors that can contribute greatly of getting accepted into PA school than just grades alone. Outside of school experience with communication is greatly encouraged due to the nature of the PA’s job where a great deal of interaction with patients is essential. PA school look at the balance between academic quality and extracurricular activities. After getting accepted into a PA school, the programs run approximately for 2-3 years. Its tuition can range between 30-40 thousands dollar per didactic year. There are many types of financial assistance available, however, to help fund those who have financial difficulties. Financial aid should be considered around the same time as applying to the PA program and the American
The subject came so naturally to me and I decided to continue my enrollment in sports medicine courses throughout my high school education. As my senior year of high school concluded, I explored the idea of a career in physical therapy by job shadowing at the Idaho Sports Medicine Institute (ISMI). After observing the PTs at ISMI, I was immediately drawn to a career in physical medicine. A few months later, I started my education at Idaho State and felt exactly like I did when I started sports medicine in high school. I was absolutely enthralled with my classes, naturally excelled in all of my coursework, and always had PT school in the back of my mind. I knew I would have to work extremely hard to develop a strong undergraduate transcript and build a competitive application. Throughout my undergraduate career, I have worked relentlessly to maintain academic excellence and currently have a 3.91 GPA. I have also succeeded in making the College of Education’s Dean’s List for five semesters. Unfortunately, I did not receive the honor of making the Dean’s List on one occasion, as I was .02 points below the minimum
