The career route I am interested in pursuing is Therapeutic Exercise / Physical Therapy. I plan on becoming a physical therapist after I successfully graduate CSUN with my bachelors degree in Kinesiology. A physical therapist’s job is to improve, sustain, and restore people’s maximum movement and functional ability. They also relieve pain and prevent permanent physical disabilities in their clients. Although I know becoming a physical therapist is a long and difficult process, I know I can achieve this goal. Over the years, the curriculum for becoming a physical therapist has changed. Before, all you needed was a master's degree in order to become a physical therapist. However, now you need more. Physical therapists are now being required to have their doctorate degree. Surprisingly, any major can apply to DPT school; it does not just limit Kinesiology. The steps in becoming a physical therapist are; …show more content…
There is a difference between a job and career. Anyone can get a job and earn money, but not everyone has a career. A career is an occupation that requires special training. A career is more stable and long term as opposed to a job. I strongly believe that becoming a physical therapist will satisfy me long-term; as a career. I will be stable, and also having fun at work. Many people dread going to work, but I know when I become a physical therapist, I will be looking forward to arriving at work. My feelings for this position have not really changed. I still really want to become a physical therapist, and I do not think anything will ever change that. By doing this research, I found out numerous amount of new information. I was not aware how intense and competitive the schooling for physical therapy is. However, this information did not set me back, but pushed and encouraged me to go for it. I am willing to do my best in everything, so that my dreams in becoming a physical therapist come

Since a young age, I always felt inclined towards pursuing a career in the health care field; daydreaming about myself working at a clinic or hospital and making a positive impact on someone’s life. When I started college, I decided to major in Biology and explored the different career options the health field had to offer me by shadowing dietitians, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare workers to find my ideal job.
It all comes down to who you are. I know where my passion lies and it’s in the medical field. Whether or not I become a nurse or I end up as a physical therapist, I want to be able to impact the lives of others in a positive way. My main objective is wanting to help others and I know I’m able to do that in this field. I’ve always had a soft spot for others when it comes to encouraging and wanting to help in some sort of way. I believe this is my way. Sometimes I see my injuries as a blessing. I see it as if the Lord was speaking to me through my injuries and that’s forever a blessing to me. This is my heart. Wherever I end up going, I’ll strive to be in the medical
Chan answered the question, “What you recommend this job and why?”, by saying, “I would but it's dependent on who you are, if you are someone who likes to do investigation instead of being told ‘it is this’ but you want to find for yourself what it is and if you are someone that is active and likes to promote activity then I think it is you.”(Chan Personal Interview). In this occupation you need to preach your knowledge not by speaking but by moving your body. When the interview came to a close, my last question was asking what the advantages and disadvantages of being a Physical Therapist are. He described that the disadvantages include the patient care load and the paperwork (where he explained that you need to document your work or ‘cover yourself’ per say); for the advantages he interpreted that you get to preach an active lifestyle, become a detective when figuring out the diagnosis, get to gather evidence through different methods, and treat the idea of what you think the diagnosis is. When being a Physical Therapist, as a reward patients get to feel less pain and feel as if they are functioning better in life; where as I understand from being an athlete, “Movement is Happiness!”(Chan Personal
Exercise Science is a field of work that is valued by many. There are different paths for different kind of people whether they are interested in personal training, physical therapy, or even some kind of sports coach. The route I would like to take would be Exercise Science for Athletic Training. I want to be an Athletic Trainer because growing up, I loved playing and watching sports. I played baseball for about 2 years, ran track for 3, and played basketball my entire life. After my high school career, I knew that I could not stay involved in sports because all of the injuries I have experienced so I decided I wanted a job that is behind the scenes but still rooted in athletics.
There is certain education and training to be a physical therapist. To be a physical therapist you need to have a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree. It takes three years to earn your DPT degree. You also need to be licensed by the state. Some high school ...
Entering my first year of college I didn’t have any idea of what I wanted to do. I still didn’t choose a major let alone a career. I was stuck in between wanting to make enough money that my family would be taken care of financially and choosing a career that I wouldn’t mind going in to work every day. The one thing that I was certain of was that I wanted to be able to help people in whatever I chose to do. After careful consideration and exploring the options available to me, I have come to the conclusion that I want to have a career in physical therapy. Physical therapy is the treatment of disease, injury or deformity through physical methods rather than through drugs or surgery.
Educational requirements, opportunities and general demands of the career are only a few of the areas to inquire about in the field of physical therapy. This career is diverse in nature, in that a therapist sees many different ailments ranging from a sprained ankle to rehabilitating someone who has had an amputation. There is a fair degree of difficulty involved in becoming a physical therapist, and due to the high competition involved in entering the various Master’s degree programs as stated earlier, high grades and a positive attitude are very important for success in an interested student’s career. Volunteering is a great way to find out if a person would or would not be interested in entering the practice of physical therapy. This is an exciting career with many opportunities for advancement. This career is also a nice choice for those who become bored with the tedious monotony of a daily routine, since each day is a new experience.
My interest in physical therapy was by a complete coincidence when researching numerous types of physical therapy facilities for my brother, who needed PT after an accident that involved his leg. Up to that moment, I had no direction in life and did not know what career to pursue. This was evident in my grades, but also in my occupations after I dropped out of school, resulting into one dead-end job after another. I was instilled early in life that no matter what type of work I was in, I need to be a professional and give it my best. “Never give anyone a reason to talk bad about you and your work, so you must be sure that your quality of work is impeccable,” was what my Father would tell as I entered the work force. In following my fathers’ advice, I would be hired and within
From a young age I was interested in the medical field. As I became more exposed to the various options, I decided physical therapy was the right career for me. My experience has proved the field to be interesting and fun. I enjoy working with people and the versatility of therapy. There are many areas to specialize in and I look forward to learning which one is right for me. At the moment I am interested in pediatric acute care but I am also interested in sports and orthopedics. As I continue my studies, I look forward to learning about the different fields in which physical therapy will take me. My future views may change which physical therapy field I wish to pursue, but right now I look forward to learning as much as I can about physical therapy and helping others.
The career I have chose is Physical Therapy(PT). Physical Therapist do many different things, but their main function is to help impaired or physically disabled people enhance their movement and handle their pain. Physical Therapist are a main source in the rehabilitation, medical care and prevention of people with long lasting illnesses or damage. The reason I chose this career is because I love helping people and enjoy seeing people be motivated and succeed at their task. To help someone gain full strength in their limbs or maybe even learn how to walk again is my lifelong dream. It is important to understand the education or training requirements, skills or talents needed, salary and benefits offered, and the duties for a particular career
My journey to pursue an education in physical therapy actually originates from my early childhood. I endured a very impoverished upbringing and my family’s socioeconomic status was below the poverty line. At a very young age, money became the central issue of my life. I found myself worrying about mortgages, health bills, and grocery money. As I grew older, I vowed to myself that I would not endure my family’s financial burdens into my adulthood. I knew the best way to accomplish this was by obtaining a college degree and having a professional career. However, I was unsure what career I wanted to pursue. I experimented with many different career ideas, but during my sophomore, I discovered my passion and skill for physical medicine. For my
Some schools do offer an undergraduate/doctoral degree program that allows any student to graduate with both, bachelor's and doctoral degrees. This may give the student an extra advantage when it comes to applying for a job. Volunteering is something that many doctoral programs may require, so any student that volunteer in a hospital or clinic not only allows them to enter the program, but also gives them experience that will be useful later on in his or her career. In the end all students must earn a doctoral degree in Physical Therapy in order to actually practice as a therapist. These programs last around 3 years. As part of training you are supervised for seven months in a clinical setting that includes lab and classroom instruction in medical diagnostic, patient examination and evaluation, orthopedics, prosthetic, and medical screening. Clinical experience,as i have said before, is the best way in preparing people that are pursuing this career. If they wish, therapist can then specialize in a particular area, allowing them to apply for a residency program. “The American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) offer eight designations for physical therapist seeking advancement in the field. The eight specialties include: sports, orthopedics, geriatrics, neurology, clinical electrophysiology, cardiovascular, pulmonary, and women’s
I will get my bachelors in this program which is bachelors of science in health and wellness. I will then get more education with more lab involved or more hands on experience to be able to move on to my next move which will be to enter a physical therapy program and I will be there for a few years. When I get enough experience, I will get my certification to be a sports physical therapist and help young or older athletes overcome injuries.
Since I now have researched all of the important facts about what it takes to become a physical therapist, the pro’s and con’s, information about current trends like the new health care laws, and learned about where the field is at today, I can now make a more informed decision about this career choice. At this time in my life I’m not prepared to take on the requirements that are needed to get into the DPT program. I am still interested in the field and since I can get a bachelors degree in any field to start the requirements for the program I may still consider this occupation as a career choice and pursue this more in the future. I do enjoy helping people and working hands and have always been interested in the health care field so this will be a great option that I’m now more informed about. 13
