Medications are an integral part of life for millions of people worldwide. Not only do they have the power to alleviate pain, ease symptoms of diseases, it saves lives. For as long as I can remember, when I was child in Vietnam, I had to miss field trip day at the zoo because I was coming down with a fever. I remember I didn’t like taking medicine because of its bitter tase. But just couple hours after taking the medicine, I immediately felt better, and ever since then, medicine sparked my interest. To be honest, for a couple years as a kid, I really thought medicines contained magic in them. It has always amazes me how something as small as a capsule has the ability to change the functioning of a human body. The little spark in that small …show more content…
I interact with the pharmacists and customers on a regular basis. This experience is very grand and helpful because not only did it improve my learning and understand of the profession in pharmacy but it also improved by ability to co-operate and communicate effectively. In the pharmacy, I prepare and dispense drugs to patients under the pharmacist’s guidance. I also get to see first hand on what a pharmacist does daily. The pharmacist not only educates patients on drug usage, dosage, side effects but they also maintain a close relationship with doctors to ensure their patients receive the best health care. As a pharmacy technician, I cherish every patient interaction but I wish I could be more directly involve in their health care like a pharmacist. This is one of the reasons why I wish to pursue a degree in Doctor of Pharmacy.
Throughout my career journey, I have been fortunate to work with patients under a varied range of social, economic, and cultural backgrounds; this has taught me the importance of being understanding and considerate to patients of all different backgrounds in providing the best care. I feel that a career as a pharmacist is a suitable match for my personality, talents, and possesses the greatest embodiment of what I envision as a pharmacist: compassionate, respectful, and
• Organize inventory and alert pharmacists to any shortages of medications or supplies • Accept payment for prescriptions and process insurance claims • Enter customer or patient information, including any prescriptions taken, into a computer system • Answer phone calls from customers • Arrange for customers to speak with pharmacists if customers have questions about medications or health matters Pharmacy technicians work under the supervision of pharmacists, who must review prescriptions before they are given to patients. In most states, technicians can compound or mix medications and call physicians for prescription refill authorizations. Technicians also may need to operate automated dispensing equipment when filling prescription orders. Pharmacy technicians working in hospitals and other medical facilities prepare a greater variety of medications, such as intravenous medications.
... for every pharmacist. This ratio dictates that pharmacists can not oversee every aspect of technicians’ jobs. It is this singular fact that very few people realize. The pharmacy technician who receives no formal training is responsible for not just the delivery of a patient’s medication, but also for their bill, their confidential information, and their life. The question now is, how can an uneducated individual be given so much responsibility? Technicians are granted these responsibilities because a pharmacist can not do the job alone. Pharmacists strive to mold each new technician into an employee that will realize what technicians really do. Pharmacists and technicians provide patients with safe and accurate medication in a timely manner. This is not a task for pharmacists or technicians alone; it is task that requires both personnel in order to be accomplished.
I pleased to apply to the PharmD program as the program is one area that corresponds to my career dreams. Being part of this program gives one the opportunity to gain an excellent experience in working and collaborating with various health care providers in the ward. But more importantly, it facilitates a practical environment in dealing more closely with patients. Hence, it helps to provide the ultimate health care services to patients. Also, it permits me to carry on gaining different knowledge, skills, and values in addition to those I have already developed during my undergraduate studies. My interest in being a clinical pharmacist was first aroused during my SPEP rotation in the hospital setting where I was really impressed with the role of clinical pharmacists who provide a consistent process of patient care with healthcare teams to maintain the appropriateness, effectiveness and safety of the medication use. Unlike a pharmacist, a clinical pharmacist has a more diversified responsibilities and closeness to direct patient care. Moreover, provides
This introduced a different side of the pharmacy field where a strong interaction with the public is substantial. As a pharmacy techician, I worked to support pharmacists in greeting patients with prescription orders, processing insurance paperwork, and answering questions and requests. I learned to be patient and resourceful, but constrained in my ability to give medical advice as often times patients ask for advice. Also, this job allowed me the opportunity to learn from pharmacists as they prepare prescriptions, provide advices to doctors and help patients with the most cost effective medications. Nonetheless, the most rewarding aspect of this job has been my ability to assist patients and conversing with them on personal level, ranging from trivial topics like how their days go or casual chats about the recent daily events, to their history of medical troubles. This job has definitely provided me with the real-world experience needed to be successful in the pharmacy field and improved my customer service
When you ask people what you think when word “pharmacist” come to your mind? They often say pharmacist have to deal with variety of legal drugs. From my personal opinion, when I hear the word “Pharmacist”, I think of helping others. This inspiration came from my Health Science class I took in twelve grade. Until senior year of my high school, I did not know what I wanted to be. But it all changed, after my first shadowing experience at pharmacist station. There I learn about what exactly the pharmacist career is about, what are some of the equipments used in the field and how I can contribute the knowledge I receive here to help others.
“Those who believe in the importance of serving others should lead the way by fighting against the temptation we all have, and maybe, especially as we age, to close in upon ourselves.” As many look into pharmacy, a main point is regarded as how much they reach out to help others in need. With this career, the goal of the pharmacist is to assist the ones who can not assist themselves. Moreover, there are many other responsibilities that come with this career. A pharmacist serves patients by dispensing medication to the public, giving pharmacological information to health care providers, selling over the counter medications in community businesses, and much more. These responsibilities come with the desire to push and work through the many difficult tasks that are associated with this career. When examining the field of pharmacy, many details are needed to understand the job, such as the history, the educational background, and the on-the-job activities including the benefits and hazards this job contains. As time continues to pass, pharmacy is taking on a major role in the heath care society as well as many other roles they must continue to fill.
Through my work, I’m able to learn about various drugs, their strengths, uses, side effects, and the cost of each drug. During the day, I accept multiple prescriptions sent in by prescribers, fill each script with the correct medication, and dispense on them to our customers. I’m thankful to have a job that allows me to make a impact in someone else’s life, even when in it's a small way. When I’m not working as a pharmacy technician, I’m studying to earn my associates degree for nursing.
Pharmacists are designated for clinical or order entry duty each day. In most instances, there is a clear purpose to each member’s presence on a given day. Another practice he employs is serving as perhaps the
What particularly appealed to me was the way of tackling various illnesses, management strategies and personalized patient treatment. I could put my theoretical knowledge into practice during my internship. I was interned as a Clinical Pharmacist along with healthcare professionals in various departments such as Surgery, Dermatology, Pediatrics and General Medicine. I was successful to practice “Calculating the safe dosage of different medications” depending upon the patient’s condition and their body mechanisms. During this time, I came across various patient-related services including — collecting exhaustive patient medication and medical history, conducting patient counseling on medications and disease states, keeping a vigilant eye on identifying the drug interactions and reporting the serious adverse events within the scheduled time.
CVS is a well known corporation around the world that offers an easily, accessible pharmacy service to millions of those who need their prescriptions fills and advice. Combining medical knowledge and patient care, those two factors peaked my interest in pursuing the pharmacy career. Thanks to the Biomedical Innovations class, I am able to continue learning in the PLTW Biomedical Sciences, and furthermore, have an internship at any biomedical health related field available. For me to set a foot into a pharmacy, I must follow multiple steps to obtain my pharmacy technician in-training license. To determine whether if it’s the right career for me, I took the opportunity given by my high school to submerge myself into the pharmacy environment
I dealt with customers, completed prescriptions and attended to phone calls. It allowed me to interact with a diverse demographic developing my interpersonal skills immensely. I also arranged experience at a GP and Dentist which showed me the interaction required with a pharmacist to provide the best healthcare. The role of a pharmacist varies from helping drug addicts to those mentally unwell through consultation as well as dispensing medicine to the public. It is an emotionally challenging and precise role hence a pharmacy can only run smoothly via communication, teamwork and dedication which I successfully displayed being
I know that being a pharmacist will be hectic at times, but taking the time and the patience to understand and develop relationships will lead to less misunderstanding and stress. Due to the age and health conditions of some of the campers, I have learned not to take things for granted because I have learned first-hand that life is too short. When I become a pharmacist, I hope to provide medication to others so that their lives are not cut too short. Camp Goodtimes has shown me that making small gestures such as a hug or a compliment create a larger impact on others than any materialistic items ever could. Thus, the reason I want to become a pharmacist is so that I can make and do little things, such as filling prescriptions, which will have a larger impact on people, such as preventing pain or altering their
During my senior year in high school, I started an internship at Walgreens Pharmacy in Brownsville, Texas. This was a unique opportunity for me to find out if I would like to have a career as a pharmacist. So far, not only have I learned about my interest in pharmacy, but I have also learned from Dr. Leonard, one of the pharmacists at Walgreens. Even though I have made many mistakes as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee, Dr. Leonard always motivated me to do better the next time and stay positive. He always has a smile when he is working and looks forward to helping others. As a result of his qualities, Dr. Leonard assists everyone work easier together because there are never arguments. A career as a clinical pharmacist seems to be the goal was working up to my entire life, even before I knew what it was. As a child I found myself fascinated by what made people sick and how to make them feel better. This interest only continued to grow through my education, culminating in my decision to attend pharmacy school upon reaching adulthood.
Pharmacists play a key role in patient care and well-being. Not only do quality pharmacists dispense prescriptions to their patient’s, but they also consul them on how to get superior results. By maintain a thoughtful relationship and open communication with patients, pharmacists are able to best access their patient’s needs. As a pharmacist, it would be my goal to have that strong relationship with my patients. My dad personally struggled with taking his prescriptions, as most individuals diagnosed with severe clinical depression do. Clearly it is not his pharmacist’s fault my dad didn’t take his medication before it was too late. His pharmacist simply did his job. However, as a pharmacist, I would go above and beyond, the extra mile, to access
