The rights of animals have been a controversial issue for many years. This issue is significant because animals do not have the ability to speak and share their voice. Therefore, they are taken advantage of by human beings and not given proper rights as living creatures. Human beings eat animals on a daily basis without considering the suffering and turmoil that those animals were put through. I agree with Peter Singer’s argument that, “animals, at least those capable of sensation, deserve full moral consideration.” (Peter Singer All Animals are Equal) However, I only agree with Singer’s claim that, “denying animals equal standing, what might be called ‘speciesism,’ is akin to denying equal standing on the basis of race or sex.” (Peter Singer All Animals are Equal) under certain circumstances. I agree with the claim, “animals, at least those capable of sensation, deserve full moral consideration” because even though animals cannot speak, or have the ability to reason, they still have the ability to suffer. Human society today has evolved into finding the cheapest way to do everything in order to bring the largest possible profit. Humans only care about making food quicker and cheaper. This was done through the process of factory farming. Factory farming is when large industries raise large numbers of animals for food. Almost one hundred percent of the United States’ animals are raised in factory farms. These farms only focus on profit and efficiency, which comes at the expense of the animals’ health and well-being. Factory farms pack animals into spaces so tight that they cannot move and these animals do not have any access to the outdoors. This causes the animals a great amount of both physical and mental
