Technology Causing Cancer Many people cannot remember a time when cell phones were not part of everyone’s daily lives. From relying on devices to wake them up in the mornings to directing their morning commutes to providing valuable face time with those they love and keeping them connected to the outside world, they find it difficult to imagine their lives without them. Are people better off without these time-wasting and life-sucking devices? Most would argue their lives benefit from this technology. Do they fail to see the possible harm cell phone usage could do to their health? While current research is inadequate, lending to the fact the technology is so new and the effects of prolonged usage have not been measured, various …show more content…
As technology advanced, more people became interested in owning their own telephone to keep them connected and televisions to stay informed and later for entertainment. As early as fifteen years ago, cell phone usage was the same way. Today, it is rare to find an individual who claims not to own a cell phone. People cannot imagine what life would be like without them. Year after year, each new device boasts incredible new features. What many fail to stop and consider is the impact these possibly carcinogenic advancements cost society. “Cell phones pose a potential danger to personal and public health because they emit RF (radio frequency) Energy, which has been correlated with negative health effects including an increased incidence of brain tumors, tumors affecting the acoustic nerve, and damage to sperm” (The San Francisco Cell Phone Ordinance Is Legally Justified and Prudent). The World Health Organization through the International Agency for Research on Cancer, “has classified radiofrequency electromagnetic fields as possibly carcinogenic to humans based on an increased risk for glioma, a malignant type of brain cancer, associated with wireless phone use” (The San Francisco Cell Phone Ordinance Is Legally Justified and Prudent). The director of IARC stresses continued research is needed on extended heavy use of cell phones to assess the possibility of risks. Because of this information, the San Francisco Cell Phone Warning Ordinance was put in place stressing the need for more
A common theme is taking place where as people feel that cell phones are starting to take over others daily lives. Many people go through their day to day lives not even relizing how often they are on their cell phones. In the article, “Our Cell Phones, Ourselves” the author Christine Rosen talks about how cell phones are starting to become a necessity in every way towards peoples lives. Rosen talks about both the good and bad effects of cell phones and how they have changed the way in which we work our daily life. Although I think cell phones can be necissary, the constant need for use could be the beginning of how cell phones will take over our every day lives.
In the essay “Our Cell Phones, Our Selves” written by Christine Rosen, the author presents a brief history on how cell phones were introduced into society and how this artifact changed people’s interactions in the physical space. Rosen describes the first cell phone that appeared in 1983 as “hardly elegant,” big and expensive (458). Cell phones at that time were mainly used by important and affluent people. However, seven years later, cell phones became smaller and affordable provoking a big change in society. This big technological advance did not only affect the United States, but the entire world.
Cancer is a really bad and deadly disease and has caused many deaths around the world, but what if it isn't much of a disease but instead a business, so on the off chance that you had a business offering something that made you well over a hundred billion dollars for every year, would you find a way to kill the requirement for your business? Or, on the other hand, would you bend backwards for cash to keep coming?Cancer is a really bad and deadly disease and has caused many deaths around the world, but what if it isn't much of a disease but instead a business. from food to medicine cancer-causing things are everywhere and put there on purpose for profit. The government has many pros of this too , they make money and thin the population.I just think it's terrible that people could be so selfish and then take lives for money and go to sleep at night. Most people are skeptical when people claim this ,but proof is everywhere and be careful so you don't become a part of the biggest business in the US.
About a month ago I attended a dinner with some close friends. As we all sat in the restaurant waiting for drink orders to be taken, I looked around the table and what I saw made me feel more than a little annoyed considering I had not seen some of these people (or spoken to some of them) in over a month. Everyone at the table had sat down and immediately took out their phone. After reading the article “Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation?”, by Jean M. Twenge, the feelings experienced that evening at dinner were validated and broadened by the depth and scope of the article. Jean Twenge was persuasive because of the statistical data in her article.
In the article entitled, “Our Cell Phones Ourselves”, Christine Rosen describes how cell phones have changed the way we communicate. Rosen tells the readers the main purpose for cell phone use in the past, versus present day. Her purpose is to make society aware of how cell phones have influenced our lives in order to inspire change as to how we view our cell phones. Rosen directs her writing to everyone in the present day by describing the negative results of cell phone use and how it impacts our lives and those around us. Without a doubt, cell phones are going to be a part of our world, but it is the responsibility of every cell phone owner to exercise self control and understand that a cell phone is nothing more than a device.
It is undeniable that cellular technology has become main stream. “It was estimated that there were 92 million cell phone users in the US, a number growing by one million every month.” (Frumkin, Jacobson, Gansler & Thun 2001). The arrival and widespread use of cell phones has peaked interest of the health effects of radiofrequencies in the human body.
Cellular phones are a phenomenon that has engulfed people in the nineties. They have become a common occurrence whether you are waiting in line at the super market or in a movie theatre. One professor at Murray State University said, “Many students are carrying them, I had a student get a call in the middle of a test last semester.” Although many people have accepted the thought of carrying a telephone wherever they go, others have not taken the onslaught of cell phones quite so easily. Cell phones have become part of everyday life, and with the dramatic changes that have been made, there is no sign of their existence diminishing. Today, cellular service is available in all 306 Metropolitan Statistical Areas across the country and all of the 428 Rural Service Areas.

Hi Dr. Kim! Thank you so much for listening to my ideas the last time I saw you! Me and Nathan have done more research about preventing and fighting cancer, we have decided to make a kit including a medicine and diet that should be used while using the medicine.
...et cell phones take complete control over their lives. Once a cell phone addiction is formed it can be hard to break and can become a real problem in day to day life for the owner.
Generally, cell phones serve to improve lives, especially if used correctly. To an extent, life nowadays can be unimaginable without the use of cell phones, as we have come to rely heavily on them in our daily lives. As technology improves, the uses and features of the phones also increase, thus making it even harder to do without one. Works Cited for: Agar, John. Like the rest of the world, I cannot go a day without my phone. Try leaving your phone at home for a day and let me know how you feel. With the growing technology my phone is like my arms and legs. It is my must- have- can’t live without phone. It is my connection to the outside world. It is my connection to other people’s lives and theirs to connect with mine. The “cell phone” started out as a form of communication via calling and then it exploded with text messaging. Now it seems that most people would prefer texting then calling someone.
Twenty-five years ago, a phone was just a way to contact someone. Mobile phones have become one of the most common tools of communication for both young and old. Cellular devices have redefined relationships and social conduct, and transformed the daily lives of many individuals. Cell phones no longer function just as a communication device. Today it has many other uses.
Research also points to an increased risk of multiple types of cancer (Hardell 40). Epidemiologic evidence in the last few years claims that mobile phone usage and risks of brain tumors and other types, such as salivary gland tumors in the adult head have grown tremendously
Cell phones, Wi-fi, wireless modems, and other wireless products have become a potential health hazard. While their health effects are largely untested, there have been numerous studies of the effects of the electromagnetic radiation emitted from these devices. All scientists agree that this radiation is dangerous at high levels and new studies are beginning to suggest that they may pose health risk at lower levels as well.("Wi-Fi Health Dangers & Radiation Health Effects") U.S. Citizens enjoy the many conveniences associated with wireless devices, yet we deserve adequate protections to safeguard our long-term health. The modern world that we live in guarantees that we will come into contact with electromagnetic radiation everyday. Because of this, I propose that the U.S. Government put stricter limits on permissible SAR (specific absorption rate) levels. I also propose that they require public locations (i.e. schools, libraries, government buildings, etc.) do away with wireless computer networks and replace them with wired ones like has been done in other countries. Taking these basic precautions will better safeguard us until more conclusive long-term research is able to pin down the specific dangers of low level electromagnetic radiation to the human body.
