Plastic, you see it everywhere now. It’s become a norm in most people’s day to day lives and seldom do we even take the time to consider, “what really is plastic?”. Personally when I think of the word, “plastic”, the first things I envision are something fake or inorganic, not natural and unearthly. However, in order to make plastic you do need to find elements that are naturally found in the earth such as gas, oil, coals, and other minerals. But, it doesn’t just end there. The process alone of converting these natural elements into such a multitude of different products for consumers is an incredibly damaging one not only to the earth that gives us all life, but also to our own health. Do you agree that we should destroy our only home simply for the convenience of a container that can be made from something else? Does it make sense to intentionally poison ourselves and others when there is a world of alternatives out there, simply beginning with a reusable water bottle? The water bottle policy in our classroom is not only completely justifiable, but I believe it should be taken even further. Imagine the entire campus being a plastic-free zone, do you not believe it would cause a collective change in all our consciousness? The truth is, most people are good, kind, and caring individuals. I want to believe that if everyone knew about the reality of plastic bottles that nobody would accept one into their life, ever again. In a world where we can have almost anything with the click of a button or simply walking into a store, what choice would you make? One based on ego, laziness, ignorance, and carelessness, or one based on compassion, sustainability, mindfulness, and love for all life on earth? Call me crazy but, I’ll choose the
