We have all heard the phrase “You are what you eat”, but do we really want to be known as being cheap, easy, and fake? Today we will be examining why I believe you should avoid eating fast food at all costs. We will look at what additives are in fast food, how it affects your productivity, mood and wallet, the influence it has on our health and why we choose to eat this food to begin with.
What we are eating when we choose fast food? Have you ever thought about where that chicken nugget came from? Up to 80,000 chickens can live in one windowless building. They can't move around, and are forced to live in small cages, stacked one on top of the other, which can lead them to go stir crazy. Because they have so many roommates and get bored, they decide to attack other chickens, and turn into cannibals. To make it easier to not lose 'valuable meat', the farmers will cut their beaks and toes off. Now imagine the immense amount of stress you would be under if you lived in these conditions, the chicken's immune systems get so weak they fill them with antibiotics, which of course we then ingest ourselves when eating that golden chicken nugget. Also, we should pay attention to what the animals are eating. The cattle industry buys millions of dead cats and dogs from animal shelters every year, and feeds them to the cattle which ends up in your big mac. Did I forget to mention that one burger could have meat from over 1,000 cows? If you ever look at the ingredients in a Big Mac, you would find between the meat, bun, and sauce, you would be digesting over 100 different ingredients, chemicals, coloring, etc. I don't know about you, but that sounds delicious to me.

...ay, I know all this already, but we as a society live so much in the now, we fail to see the future effects it could have on us.
Is it really that easy to avoid fast food? The answer is no. As someone who has lost almost 100 lbs in the past year and a half because of completely cutting out fast food and choosing healthier alternatives, I want everyone to know how much better you feel and how much your quality of life increases because of not eating it. I understand that not everyone can just simply cut out fast food, but I hope in reading all this information you choose to eat it in moderation and on a less frequent basis. We need to wake up as a society and take the time now to inform ourselves on this information and take the time to cook more meals at home, so we are not giving up time in the future by cutting our length of life because of these unhealthy foods.
We hear it all the time, regarding how fast food is bad for our health, and yet we continue eating it. Life doesn’t slow down and sometimes it is just much easier and better for you timewise to just go through the drive through. In the article “Fighting the Fast Food Habit: Can America Downsize?” it basically says that even though most of the fast food chains and food suppliers are trying to decrease the unhealthy options on their menus, it is too late for it because of our eating habits. We want the unhealthy food. Companies are going to market to what the consumer wants. That’s how they make their profits. To sum it all up, companies are food options it a little healthier, but not for us, they only do as much that is needed for people to keep buying it and still feel like they are eating a little healthier. (Garcia 94) Just because a company says they are making changes doesn’t mean you’re eating healthy. It simply means they are making the food and drinks people are consuming a little healthier, however, it still shouldn’t be considered healthy. They do what they have to do to make money. All in all, you should consider eating less fast food and work toward adopting some good eating
Fast food has infiltrated every nook and cranny of American society. Everywhere you turn you can see a fast food restaurant. An industry that modestly began with very few hot dog and hamburger vendors now has become a multi-international industry selling its products to paying customers. Fast food can be found anywhere imaginable. Fast food is now served at restaurants and drive-through, at stadiums, airports, schools all over the nation. Surprisingly fast food can even be found at hospital cafeterias. In the past, people in the United States used to eat healthier and prepared food with their families. Today, many young people prefer to eat fast food such as high fat hamburgers, French-fries, fried chicken, or pizza in fast
Common sense seems to dictate that fast food is bad for you, however, many Americans consume fast food on a monthly, weekly, or even daily basis. In “Don’t Blame the Eater,” David Zinczenko argues that fast-food companies and the food industry are to blame for America’s obesity epidemic, essentially that it is not the individuals fault for becoming obese, and that in essence, fast-food companies ought to take responsibility for the health issues induced by consuming the food. He explains how bombarded you are with unhealthy, greasy, and fattening food everywhere you look; whereas it is much more difficult to access healthy alternatives. He describes the vicious cycle of purchasing cheap ailing meals, rather
“Fast food is popular because it's convenient, it's cheap, and it tastes good. But the real cost of eating fast food never appears on the menu.” – Eric Schlosser --
Eating five to six servings of fruit, choosing whole grains or even just avoiding foods high in density can be a step closer to reducing chances of becoming obese or overweight. Mark Bittman in his article, “Is junk food really cheaper,” argues that Americans are wasting their money on junk food or fast food restaurants when that money could be used towards a healthy home cooked meal. He persuades the readers to have alternatives. Instead of buying McDonalds’ French fries people should get apple slices, instead of drinking sodas drink water, instead of buying junk food get vegetables. Bittman states, “The fact that junk food is cheaper than real food has become a reflexive part of how we explain why so many Americans are overweight, particularly those with lower incomes.” I agree food (fast food) plays a huge role unto why Americans are so overweight. It is because fast food is so convenient and inexpensive to some. Even if a person wanted to eat healthy from a fast food restaurant, salads are more expensive than a burger or chicken nugget meal. How can a person with low income choose the “healthy” way when the healthy way is more expensive? Although fast food can be beneficial more so convenient in the short term, it can be very detrimental in the long term. One man filmed a documentary where he was supposed to eat McDonalds three times a day. Unfortunately during the film, he had to stop because his health started to fail. This shows that fast food is indeed not good for people’s
Does this sound familiar - You pledge to put in a mile or two on the treadmill every day and count every last calorie, but a few days later the diet is forgotten and you're digging into pizza and gulping down beer with a group of friends? Draconian diets are tough to stick with. It's better to make small changes in your daily diet than take an all-or-none approach. Losing weight is especially hard if you are one of those people that just can't resist junk food. Here are some healthy swaps to help you knock off some pounds without feeling deprived:
Nevertheless, some people insist that fast foods, such as chips, hamburgers and fizzy drinks, that are so cheap and tasty, are not a consequence of the health problems. However, I strongly disagree that fast food has no bad impact on people’s health. I believe that fast food has a negative impact on society and, therefore, people must take care of themselves and lead a healthy lifestyle if they do not want to face serious problems with their
Take a second to understand why fast food firms choose to sell products that are unhealthy. Their unhealthy products are in a high demand in the food market; in fact, they are simply giving us what we demand for. Most firms have started putting food labels on their menus so there is no room for excuse when making the right food choices. Nobody is forcing us to eat a whole box of Krispy crème donuts or a super-size meal at McDonalds. I believe that we are always looking for shortcuts in life and now we can anticipate there is a shortcut in what we put into our bodies. So we are consistently after things that are cheap, fast and affordable. Who better to attend to our needs than the fast food industry?
Obesity is a very serious matter in the world today and there needs to be a regulation to help with this issue. With children becoming less active and eating more, their risk of obesity is much higher. Kids do not need to be rewarded with fast food every time they want it or every time they do something right. Parents and young children around the world need to understand the importance of healthy food so they can make better choices. If they make better choices with food, then the less likely they are going to have major health problems in the long run. My goal is for the U.S. Department of Agriculture is to raise the prices on meats and unhealthy foods that are made in fast food restaurants, and instead lower healthier food that you would buy in the grocery store. Fast food comes from the leftovers of the cow instead of the actual healthy stuff from them. That’s why fast food is so cheap and meat from the deli is so expensive. Fast food meat is not healthy in any way because it has no nutritional value in it. If prices increase at fast food restaurants, then the average American is more likely to stay away from there and just get their things from the store where they are a lot healthier. Yes these meats in the store may cost a little bit more but they get a lot more nutrients out of them along with a couple meals. If one person cooked a couple patties of hamburger or steak, then they would be able to eat it for a few days and change up the way they eat it as well. If one night they want to have hamburgers then they can, and then if they want spaghetti one night then all they have to do is cook the noodles and put the meat in the sauce.
1. According to the "Nutritional Facts" that are posted on McDonald's web site, one Big Mac contains 540 calories and 29 grams of fat, which is 45 percent of the national recommended daily value based on a 2,000-calorie diet, according to McDonald's. One large order of fries contains 500 calories and 25 grams of fat, which is 38 percent of the recommended daily value. The 32-ounce Coca-Cola Classic adds another 310 calories (Ali, Sam).
Fast food is popular in America. In fact, one of America’s nicknames is “fast food nation,” (“Healthy” par. 1). It is quick and only takes a short amount of time to get the food. There are so many fast food restaurants in the world. Every corner people turn, there is another McDonald’s or a popular fast food restaurant. What people do not know about this easy way of eating is how unhealthy fast food really is. Quick food does not mean nutritious food. However, many Americans debate whether fast food restaurants should be required to show the nutrition in their food.
Which all provide either ready to eat food, or it will be ready really quick, hence the name “fast food”. The process they use to make the food is very efficient, so efficient it makes you question if the food is really food. All the food is processed, all made in a factory somewhere, using god knows what kind of ingredients, then frozen and shipped to all the restaurants over America. People say that Americans are becoming addicted to it, or are addicted with the efficiency of it. Being able to stop quick, get fast food and go on about their day with minimal time loss. Why not right? Why wouldn't you save your time, by simply grabbing some fast food? Being that it’s so efficient, there’s no way that it’s going to have the same health value as a home cooked meal. Most of these meals are high in fat, calories, and sodium; this is because they are prepared in factories with little regard for dietary
What do you think when you hear the word diet? For many people, it means eating from a narrow list of foods that you must force down until you just can't stand it any more. In truth, some of the diets out there are rather monotonous such as grapefruit diets or diets based on drinking protein shakes. Sometimes you are encouraged to invest in a host of pre-prepared foods, guaranteed to make you slim if you just keep buying and eating them. Unfortunately diets that don't use "real" food aren't all that effective because no one can stay on them very long.
Millions of dollars go into marketing every year because it 's an effective tool to make you think you need a product, whether it 's good for you or not. We all know that that juicy and delicious burger with tomatoes and lettuce and whatever else on it, that 's advertised on tv, DON 'T REALLY LOOK LIKE THAT IN REAL LIFE. So why do you go out and buy it anyways? It tastes good, it 's inexpensive or simply because you 're hungry and don 't feel like cooking. You know it 's not good for you, but you rather sacrifice your thighs, your skin, your butt, and your health for some good ol ' grease, fat, and salt. People rather spend money and time on things that are going to benefit them for 5 mins or 10 mins instead of a lifetime. I know what it 's like to only have $3 in your pocket when you 're hungry but what I 've come to realize is that fast food truly costs more than healthy food. I don 't know about you but I love to eat, so when I 'm trying to find options, I see what can get me more for my money. Fast food gets me a burger from the dollar menu, small fries and if I can find some loose change somewhere then maybe I 'll get a small drink or just settle for my bottle of water that 's in the car. That 's around $3 or so. Now let 's analyze: that burger and fries, let 's be honest, is not going to fill you up for a long period of time. Now let 's look at some healthier alternatives. You can make yourself a meal at home for free, you
It's quick, it's convenient, it's delicious. Fast food is the most popular quick-service nourishment. It plays an important roll in the lives that we humans so perfectly laid out for ourselves. Why try cooking when you can get food at a much faster rate? To most people, fast food is the answer to all of our problems. It is good in every possible way, or is it? Although some might deny the consequences, we all know there is a steep price to pay. So here by today, I am asking you to have a closer look at the hidden dangers. In my opinion, we should free the world of fast food because, not only are they adding the amount of cruelty to animals and draining money out of our pockets, they're also taking great risk of the health of billions of people.
