Dear SUNY New Paltz Academic Standing Committee, This last year has been very difficult and although most of the issues were not school related, they had a major impact on my classes. At the beginning of the year, my Mom left her abusive husband. He was a very controlling person, who if anyone did something he did not like, he would yell and insult the person for hours. While the man was never physically abusive, emotional and verbal abuse can be just as damaging. He was very good at making people, particularly his wife and children, feel like they were worthless. We could not leave the house unless he knew exactly where we would be, who we would be with and exactly how long we would be gone. While this does not seem terrible, it got to the …show more content…
About a quarter of the way through packing he came, claiming he felt sick and could not work. When he saw what we were doing, he became extremely angry, yelling at my mom, threatening to through us down a flight of stairs, off the deck, which was nine feet off the ground. At one point, we had to call the cops, so that they could safely escort us off the property. A report was filed and we moved into an apartment with the help of some friends. A few days later, we called him asking if we could come pick up the rest of our clothes and dressers, he said it was alright with him, but as we knew he might be there, we called the local police to let them know we were going to the house to pick up the rest of our stuff. My boyfriend and his best friend helped us as the dressers were too heavy for my Mom and I. Later that night we got a call from the police station asking for us to come down. My mom’s ex had called the cops to file a complaint of theft and trespassing on my boyfriend and his friend, claiming they had stolen his guns. The guns he claimed were stolen had actually been confiscated by the police the day we …show more content…
We were only supposed to be living there for two months at the most, but we were not able to find anywhere we could afford. During our stay there we often did not have water and when the colder weather came in we often went without heat, because the heater was broken and the landlord refused to come in and fix it. The yard in front of the apartment was full of garbage, cars and car parts belonging to the landlord. Overall it was not a very safe place to live. The weekend before finals our landlord kicked us out saying because we did not pick up the garbage, the insurance on the building had been revoked. Our landlord never asked us to pick up the garbage, in fact, when we moved in he told us he would be removing it. I was not able to email my teachers because I no longer had internet and I had run out of minutes on my phone.
Last semester was extremely stressful and busy. I will be able to do well during Spring semester as things have finally been calming down since after Christmas. A friend of ours had a house they had been renting that was recently vacated and they are willing to let us rent from them at an affordable price. My boyfriend, who is a mechanic, is helping me find a reliable but affordable vehicle so that I no longer have to take the bus
E: Mary, Queen of Scots, has been found guilty of plotting to usurp Her Majesty the Queen and has been sentenced to death. … I suppose it was only a matter of time. In all the nineteen years she’s been imprisoned, she never once relented on the opinion that she should be Queen. I had hoped she wouldn’t have stooped as low as to actually attempt to overthrow me though. What did she think would happen were she to ascend the throne anyhow? That the public would welcome her with open arms? They have not forgotten the bloody persecution she wielded against them. The Catholic Church may prefer her as ruler, but my Church would not stand for her injustice. … Even though she desires to see me disposed, I do not wish her dead. Despite our differences

The rent of this apartment was 600$. I was shocked when I heard this price because it is very cheap for this type of building. When I came home I decided to search on the Internet to find some reasons for its low price. After a while I found a website where many of previous talents came there and wrote their opinions, which shows this apartment had bed bugs and silverfish because it was made from wood (The bedbug registry). It happened in 2008 and 2010, but I have thought by myself maybe it will happen again.
I just submitted my last set of grades for the semester. This is always a big weight off my shoulders, but since it will be the last set of grades I ever submit at the University, it is an even greater relief. And so I think it's time for me to "give back" as the kids say.
The United States should be the strongest country in the world. We, the Virginians and all other neighboring states should stand together to make it the best country, where people have dignity and freedom. In order to make our country better, we have to have a different way of ruling the country, we should have a stronger central government, where wise, politically educated, and experienced candidates are in our government, rather than average citizens make major decisions. Men are ambitious, “men are not angels”, as James Madison said. We, the founding fathers think realistically, not idealistically. If only one man from each state represented the states, the rate of making the wrong decision is way higher. Having a different type of government will allow you, the citizens and the government make the decisions for the country to enhance the rules and overall
One bad event though that has happened this semester was when I got a C+ on my psychology test because I did not put in enough effort into studying so I have no one to blame but myself but I promised to myself that I would not fall off track this time around when I take my next test. I attribute my failure to get a good grade as internal because I could have gotten a better a grade if I put in more effort. I attribute going to the gym as external because I had friends pushing me to come to the gym with them and try out the different classes. Overall believe that coming for the summer semester has been one of the best experience in my life because I have met some really amazing people and have gained knowledge about so some different things. Therefore I am excited to come back in the fall and continue my journey at

When I moved to California two weeks before school started, I had difficulty looking for places to live around County Community College. This is because community colleges don’t usually have on-campus housing facilities for students. This made life very difficult for me because I was brand new to the area and I knew no one. My dad did help me by calling up one of his friends and asked if I could stay at their house temporarily until I was able to find a place I could live at, that was near school because I didn’t have a car at the time. The day I finally found a place to live, school was almost about to start. When I went to check the house out, I really disliked it there because there was no cooking allowed, the only time I could use the stove was to boil water. There were even curfews enforced because poor wooden floorboards would alert everyone whenever someone would walk around just to grab a cup of water or a snack at night. Another limitation was that the landlady had ridiculous shower curfews that I had to follow. The house was very unclean and unhygienic due to the lack of maintenance and care provided for the building. There was no other choice but to live there because it was the closest place to school, that was within walking or biking distance, I could find because I didn’t know how to take the bus in this new country. This is what leads me to believe that County Community College should see if it’s feasible to construct an on-campus housing facility for students because it is able to help a large variety of students in various ways.
I consider my financial circumstances today very dire, nevertheless I try to keep myself hopeful and positive as the semester progresses. Fall semester was my first as at CSULB, it was very exciting to know that I was halfway through my studies and with
Throughout this semester I realized that college is a lot harder than I thought it would be. I developed skills that I believe will help me get through my classes to come. I know I wouldn’t have been able to realize the complexity of college without the help of my Professors. They showed me college isn’t a joke, and that I need to work hard in order to get high grades. This semester was a headache because I was going through the transition from high school to college. I was learning new things and I lacked the traits a college students needs to have in order to do well. I know now that my next semester will defiantly go smoothly, because I now believe I have the traits a college student should contain thanks to my Professors!
The classes I had taken for my major this semester didn’t really interest me and pull me in like I wanted them to. So I looked and researched different majors that I thought I would like and decided to change my major in my green light appointment with my academic advisor. So this is another reason why I think this semester I will do better because I would be taking classes for a different major in the spring and also I would be taking classes that interest me more than the classes I had taken in the fall
Several different approaches are used to communicate healthy life choices; some examples are lectures, training objectives, individual coaching, and patient counseling sessions (Trident, n.d.). The thought of sending an e-card to get someone 's attention about a health issue is new to me. Sure I’ve sent e-greating cards, but I would’ve never thought of the idea to use e-cards to raise awareness. After visiting the HealthFinders website and viewing several of the e-cards, I choose an e-card from the category of Healthy Celebration. I chose the e-card titled “Happy New Year”. What caught my eye with this card was the “Happy New Year” message. The bright colors caught my eye and the children playing in the snow was very appealing to me.
Over the course of the semester, I have learned a few things about myself. I have learned that I can be independent, I always knew myself as someone who could do mostly everything on their own. This semester really made me realize how independent I could actually be. Not only have I learned how independent I am I have also realized the importance of time management. With not having a strict class schedule it was a lot different than what I was originally used to. After a few weeks, I learned ways that would work best for me, for example writing down that I needed to get done. I learned that I need to focus on what 's ahead of me to accomplish what I want to succeed in, to manage what needs to be done ahead of time to stay caught up.
Many don’t realize that the road to success isn’t so much a road as it is a winding,
