Introduction (150w)
Why learn a new language? That's a good question.
While reasons for taking on this impressive pursuit vary, the rewards you'll reap will always be worthwhile.
It's ironic, though, how the motifs and benefits of learning a language lead to one another.
For instance, some may want to learn a new language for a job opportunity, but then learning a new language, in itself, paves new roads for your professional opportunities.
Funny, isn't it?
Speaking a language other than your mother tongue opens a door onto the world. Becoming proficient in a foreign tongue equates to a wider range of options in love, career, and friendships.
But it's hard to pick up a new language, or is it?
Well, I can tell you this:
Although the learning curve differs

However, you will need motivation and patience on your way to fluency. Case in point, many immigrants in the US speak poor English, even after years of being there.
Why? Well, as long as those immigrants can use basic words to communicate, there's really no need for them to become fluent.
So, with that in mind, find a compelling reason to make your learning journey in a foreign country worthwhile.
There's a catch, though.
You see, to learn through this method, you need to live in a foreign country for a few months. For a number of reasons, that may prove difficult to accomplish.
From financial difficulties to visa issues, a few obstacles might hinder you from traveling to your target country.
But don't let that stop you.
Living in another country isn't the only way to go about learning a language.
Here's the second best way:

So what if you can't travel to the country where your target language is spoken?
Well, there's a good
Most people who grow up with a foreign language spoken in there house grow up with an advantage in society. This advantage can only occur once the individual learning that foreign language also learns the dominant language spoken in that country. Once both of these languages are learned and mastered, the individual has now placed them se...
Being familiar with several different languages is most definitely not one of the easiest things to do. While growing up and experiencing different opportunities to learn different cultures there is no way it should be passed upon. Having the knowledge of different languages will offer one to have a lot more culture within there main culture and the one they are opening there self into. People with culture know their way around the world and the life they’re living. Also, it would permit one to travel to places all over the world and countries. Being knowledgeable about back rounds of several cultures will open a door for one with several opportunities throughout ones life time. Discovering different cultures will bring one around the world giving individuals chances to learn lifestyles in completely different ways. “Wild tongues can’t be tamed, they can only be cut out.” (Anzaldua) I enjoy this statement within writing my essay simply because it represents that she will continue to stay faithful to her language throughout her life.
Just as the Native Americans had to learn English from the Pilgrims, immigrant children need bilingual education to help them learn English. Everyone expects the immigrants to be able to speak English immediately, but that is rarely the case; they need time to learn our culture. In order for immigrants to succeed in this nation it is recommended that they learn English and every American should try to help them learn it. By immigrant children learning English through bilingual education they not only get keep their culture, but also learn the language to help them become successful in America. The Encyclopedia of Education says, “In most areas of the United States approximately 70 percent of the native-born currently are adopting English as their usual language” (Glenn). This ...
Day by day, there are foreigners whose first language may not be English. There can be difficulty in learning a new language in a new land, and it can be hard to adjust to
Language is part of the few benefits that immigrants bring with their culture. United States benefits from cultures of the many immigrants that migrate to the U.S. the variation of different languages brings great benefit to the U.
Right now, imagine a person in a future job. More than likely that person will encounter somebody speaking a language besides their native tongue. If someone would find themselves in that position, would they be prepared? There is a growing need for translators and other jobs that require a different language other than English. Demands for bilingual workers have doubled in the past five years, and employers say that job is now one of the highest requests by employers when applying for a job opportunity in the US. The Army, NYPD, and the State Department all can’t get enough workers with this important job skill (Kurtz). A second language should be mandatory in American schools because it makes employees more marketable, creates social interaction with different cultures, and increases cognitive skills.
...he knowledge of speaking five languages, but our willingness of learning gave both of us the capability of improving our knowledge.
There are more than 6,500 languages around the world. We can't control where we are born nor what will be our native language. Although, we can choose which we are going to speak as a second language. Speaking more than one language has obvious benefits in today's internationally growing world, and it has become common to know more than one. Being bilingual is a benefit, that one is never too old nor too ahead to experience and learn from
Some might say that English is too hard to learn, especially the older you are. This is not true, a study by Swedish science shows that the brain can still learn even if you are old.” They noticed that the older subjects spent more time on the valuable words but their recall was just as good as the younger subjects”( Lane). This shows that even older adults can still learn a language. Some might say that making them learn English is a waste of time and money. But this is not true, helping them learn English will make them a better competitor to society. Some might say that learning a language will take time. But it 's better to start at the beginning and be rewarded from the benefit than start when it is too late. The time and money that is spent will in return help the American people more than it harms them. Some Americans might not want to help immigrants just because they are not Americans, but they have forgotten what kind of people America is made of. We need to help the immigrants because they are the future of America. Immigrants help build America and they will help build the government if given the right
There are so many languages around the world, so if someone has a chance to learn more languages, then they should take it. Language is used to communicate with others, but if a person does not know the other person’s language, then that person can’t communicate with them. A person coming from another country to America might forget their native language, if they are only speaking English. A person should practice both languages because that is a part of their identity.
Foreign language classes are a benefit for students, as they will know more than one language. They will be able to communicate with more of the world and not be limited to one region of the globe. Narciss and Koerndle (2008) stated that for scholars, “Foreign language learning is crucial to students’ academic and personal education. In many domains, a person’s professional and individual success is related more or less to her ability to communicate at least in one if not several foreign languages” (p. 281). Hence, they will have more education, as they will be fluent in not just one language that is common like English.
Although some people believe the entire world should speak English, the reality is that all Americans should have some degree of formal education in a foreign language. Foreign language skills could have a positive impact on race relations in America. The number of minorities in America is rapidly increasing. In fact, "minority" groups will soon form a collective "majority" of the citizens of America. Considering the fact that many minority groups speak English as a second language and America has no official language, compulsory foreign language classes are viable options.
Reading the first article about different motivations on why someone should not only learn a different language but also want to learn it really opened my eyes. For obvious reasons, like wanting to pass class or get college credits, yes, but it truly is much more than that. I have personally always wanted to travel. To me to be able to travel anywhere would be something that I could only dream of. Attending a different country that may speak Spanish, for example.
III. Students should study abroad due to its many benefits including personal growth, intercultural development, and education attainment.
Therefore, this is able to encourage the ability to communicate and appreciate the depth and diversity of the world. Communication with two different countries, or three, or four, will further bring the world closer together, in hopes of closing the divide between some countries. By learning a second language, it can significantly broaden your native language as it gives you stronger vocabulary skills, improved literacy skills and a better understanding of the grammar and construction of your own native language. Furthermore, this can help you in other educational studies. Though it is possible to travel to another country without acquiring the native language, the experience you will have is greatly diminished as you will not see beyond the surface of their culture. Additionally, knowing the native language makes travelling easier, by being able to order meals in restaurants, ask and understand directions. Additionally, it makes it easier to find accommodation, it’s more enjoyable, informative and more satisfying. You are able to further understand and appreciate international literature, music and films, by being able to understand word plays, innuendoes, cultural references, metaphors and further improve your ability to speak the
