Do kids need more freedom?
"If you are a parent, open doors to unknown directions to the child so he can explore. Don't make him afraid of the unknown. Give him support" –Osho. Every parent eventually learns this. The easy way or the hard way. Although other people think that parents should be strict, tough, and very observant on their child or teen, many other articles think that Parents should let their children make their own decisions and they think that they need be a little lenient on the child’s freedom. This has been a great debate ever since 2005. Parents should be lenient on their child’s freedom because if the parents don't let their child have much freedom, the child and the parents won’t have a sturdy relationship with each other, they won’t learn how to make choices for themselves in the long

This is important because if the parent doesn’t have a good relationship with their child, it would lead to tension between those two. Planned Parenthood of America Inc. says that. “A good parent teen relationship includes respect, understanding, trust and happiness.” Teens are less likely to take risks if they have a good relationship with their parents. The main reason why parents and teens have bad relationships these days is because of the lack of those small factors. The biggest factor we all have issues with is trust. Trust is needed in a healthy relationship, if trust isn’t given within each other, trust won’t be received, resulting in violence, negativity and the loss of respect. If the parent decides not to let their child out because of the fact that the parent simply does not trust the child to do so, the child will feel neglected and doubted, all just because the parent isn’t lenient on their child and because that the parent doesn’t trust
Parental involvement is a positive factor in a teens life; however, too much involvement can be restrictive to the teenagers right to choose. When parents take away the right to choose, teenagers tend to “question the parents’ beliefs” as it helps them “develop a sense of identity.” (Dobbs) Juliet dismissed the idea of marrying Paris because her parents were telling her what to be interested in making her venture off to the complete opposite of what they wanted for her.
Many individuals are taking the process of process of parental licensing into their own hands, despite their contributions being made up in mind only, however, it is thought that counts. One respective person believes that a restriction on having children should begin at the earliest stage of one’s life: birth. As soon as a child is born, doctors should “go in and turn off their spickets” (McRedmond). In the later stages of life, this would prevent several cases of teen pregnancies, seeing as though it would be an impossibility for women to get pregnant. Then, when a women eventually becomes ready enough to think about having children, they should go through a testing process, perhaps similar to Sherman’s ideas of interviews, writing, and demonstrations of capability. If they pass, they “get their spickets turned
There are millions of adults in federal prison, but The United States is the only country in the world that condemns children to die in prison (Pequeneza, 2014). It’s sad to think about children being sentenced to life in prison, and frankly it is a disturbing and a scary fact to face. However, in recent years the U.S Supreme Court has made it illegal to charge juveniles with life sentencing for anything less than murder (Pequeneza, 2014). This new law gives children a second chance at life when they are finally released from prison. Many children are forced to be in a household that is not suitable for a developing child. Children are mistreated, neglected, abused, and other factors. These unfit situations that children are in make them more likely to become violent, and maybe end up in juvenile
A parent must think about both the present and the future when deciding on a decision because a parent should never restrict their child. Parental paternalism is constantly violating the rights of their child, which is extremely unethical (Parental Notification, 2013). A lot of the times parents like to self-manage everything without even noticing but it is essential for parents and guardians to seek what is in their adolescent’s best interest at all times. What matters is that everyone is healthy and
In conclusion, it is important that parents give their freedom to make sure kids learn to be independent and now days most teens spend a lot of their time in the internet so by parents not letting them have their privacy there, they are taking over all their lives without even giving them a chance to “explored their identity and the world” like Boyd mention. Parents, need to realize that by over protecting their kids is like sending them to war without weapons because they will not know how to confront the world and worst of all they will not know they things they are capable of doing by themselves.
Abuse happens everyday, it may happen to someone and they may not realize it is happening. States are looking for ways to deal with the one million cases of child abuse each year. One method , known as differential response or alternative response, is being used in a number of state child protective service programs.
Compulsory education laws define America’s adolescent people today. Without these laws many people wouldn’t get the education they need in life or for their future. Compulsory education helps people develop or expand many skills that they will need in life, such as social and thinking skills. By abolishing compulsory education laws in the United States people wouldn’t develop such skills or be prepared for life ahead of them. By removing this you would have a generation full of young people who wouldn’t know how to think.
Child abuse is a global problem Child abuse in the U.S. is a shame to our American society and an unnecessary act that achieves nothing but bad actions towards another person. In the U.S. child abuse has increased along the years and just seem to be getting more horrendous. It is a recurring issue that has been happening all around the world to innocent young children and most of these cases are being kept quiet about because they are too scared to tell someone what is really going on behind a closed door. Child abuse on a child is just as bad to someone who is witnessing it and still chooses not to take a stand and help them out. The government should be against child abuse because it makes children feel unsafe and ruins several children
The parent would want the child to make a decision based on what would be the best for them rather than just what the child would want to do. This encourages him to make an independent decision base...
In the United States high schools dealing with student’s privacy are becoming more of a huge problem and more students are feeling that schools are validating their privacy rights. In recent discussions of teen privacy in school, is whether if schools go overboard sometimes and feel they can search the student’s because they are using school property or are on school property. Some people feel that students do need more privacy from their schools because they need their privacy just like everyone else, and with this more reasonability they will have to get them ready when they leave school. On the other hand, some think that by giving more privacy to the student’s more poor decisions would come out of it than strong ones. Students that have
Is it fair to have to take a course and pass a test to become a parent?
Adolescence is a period of transition from the children to adults. It is generally about 10 to 20 years old (McDowall, Loftin & Wiersema, 2000). Parents often help their children make decisions when the child is less than ten years old. For example, parents do not let children use an open flame. However, the children grow into adolescents who seem to possess their views and opinions on some issues and tend to be decision-makers in their life. This behavior leads to adolescents probably become more independent. Adolescents gradually get rid of the control of their parents to buy clothes and making friends. However, parents still are sole decision-maker in terms of curfews and amount of allowance. Table 10 illustrates to decision-making patterns of U.S. parents and adolescents on seven different aspects.
Being a teenager isn’t easy. You have a lot of things on your mind, a lot of things to worry about, a lot of things to carry and when I mean carry, I mean both physically and mentally. During the 17 years of my life that I have lived so far, I believe that I have never carried this much before. Part of it I think is because it’s senior year. Actually I think that 's the biggest reason why I feel so much pressure on my shoulders. I’m pretty sure that everyone can agree on this, especially if you’ve been through it before. I’m not talking to the adults of course because I know your lives are difficult and what not, but I’m mostly talking to the teens who are currently going through the same stage of life that I’m in right now. Now I’m not saying my life is difficult in any means because I know that I
Once a child goes to school, they could express many of their thoughts, feelings, and needs, and they start taking more significant steps towards independence. Meanwhile, as we go into adulthood, adults can choose things like where they want to live, what they want to eat, what job they will do, etc. In adulthood, it consists of changes in lifestyles and relationships. Furthermore, as an adult, life changes, such as leaving home, finding a long‐term romantic relationship, beginning a career, and starting a family. Many young adults first leave their house to attend college or to take a job in another city, and that’s where their independence starts. Also, Adults attain at least some level of attitudinal, emotional, and physical freedom.
...tally know the difference between right and wrong, but without taking control they will downfall into negative activities, such as having sex, experimenting with drugs, or other dangerous activities that surround us on a daily basis and the parents end up getting mad at them, when they’re not being in their buisness. Yes no teen wants their parents in their business, but at least be aware of where your child is at and what they’re doing. And make sure what they’re doing is positive.
