Should Child Soldiers Be Given Amnesty? There are more than 300,000 child soldiers in the world which is an astonishing number. They are forced into war, are criminals and do crimes such as forcing rape, killing, and recruiting other children. But the question is, should these child soldiers be given amnesty? No, and i'm going to tell you why. One reason why child soldiers should not be given amnesty is they do violent crimes. A quote from (Aubert) says “When you kill for the first time you change”. If these kinds of people are on the streets, they will kill people on the regular because they have been doing that their whole life ever since a kid.. They are scarred from these types of things. That's one reason why they should not be given
Many kids are involved around the world in violent wars as child soldiers. These children who were forced into being soldiers had no other choice but to face their own death and therefore should be granted amnesty. This is because the great majority of the kids were forced into being war fighters. Even then, some people think that just because they’re kids doesn’t change the fact that they have performed horrible acts, and that they should be punished for their actions. Also, these kids were forced to take drugs and drink alcohol which influenced bad decisions and made them less thoughtful about the harm they were doing. So, child soldiers should get another chance and be granted amnesty after proven worthy.
One of the major problems in the Middle East is child related. To be specific, child soldiers. It is estimated that there are over 38,000 kids who are forced into being child soldiers (Storr). Because child soldiers can’t prevent their horrific fate, they deserve to be granted amnesty by the United Nations. One main reason why they should be given amnesty is because they are forced and drugged into becoming killers.
Children have been used as soldiers in many events, however two that stand out are the use of child soldiers in the Sierra Leone civil war and the drug cartels in Mexico. Most people agree that forcing children to be soldiers is wrong and not humane. The people that make them soldiers transform them into belligerent beings by force. Child soldiers of drug cartels and the armies of Sierra Leone were threatened with their lives if they didn’t become soldiers. The lives of these child soldiers are lives that nobody should live. Situations in both countries are horrible because of the high number of youngsters that are forced to take part in drug use and are transformed into extremely belligerent and inhumane people; in addition they are deprived
The Military draft is the random selection of qualified citizens of the United States, that is put to use when a crisis occurs, like a war. When American citizens reached age 18, they had to sign up for eligibility to be drafted to go to war for their country. Throughout the country’s history, the requirements and limitations of drafting have changed. The draft has been going on since colonial times in America in order to fulfill the country’s military needs when there were not enough volunteer fighters for the military. The total amount of soldiers that one side has fighting for it is an important factor in any type of battle so getting the necessary amount of fighters is crucial. The draft assures everyone that this military need is satisfied at any point in time. Many people feel like the draft is not fair and not “American” and the draft has seen so much conflict since its invention. Throughout the history of the United States, the military draft has been a very important, yet highly controversial topic at the same time.
Over the past month or two we have been reading many articles and even the book “ Along Way Gone” by Ishmael Beah. These articles and this book have taken us into some child soldiers stories and what it was like having to participate in the war. These children were forced to take part in these crimes, they were brutally tortured, and many were shot because they didn’t obey their commanders. In my opinion I believe that child soldiers should be granted amnesty.
There are millions of adults in federal prison, but The United States is the only country in the world that condemns children to die in prison (Pequeneza, 2014). It’s sad to think about children being sentenced to life in prison, and frankly it is a disturbing and a scary fact to face. However, in recent years the U.S Supreme Court has made it illegal to charge juveniles with life sentencing for anything less than murder (Pequeneza, 2014). This new law gives children a second chance at life when they are finally released from prison. Many children are forced to be in a household that is not suitable for a developing child. Children are mistreated, neglected, abused, and other factors. These unfit situations that children are in make them more likely to become violent, and maybe end up in juvenile
“If the protecting of our borders requires the incarceration of babies, the sexual abuse of children, the rape of women and the murder of men, then we are of all nations the most depraved.” This emotive statement from a man of the church, Father Rod Bower, touches a nerve with many of Australians. It is an acid test on our national consciousness. The shock of disturbed beliefs pushes us to reassess the foundation of our values.
The term “anchor baby” refers to a child born to a noncitizen mother in a country which has birthright citizenship, especially when viewed as providing an advantage for family members seeking to secure citizenship or legal residency, as defined in the Race and Racism in the United States: An Encyclopedia of the American Mosaic. There have been many disputes on whether children of illegal immigrants should be granted citizenship at birth. Most immigrants come to the United States to have a better life for themselves and their families. By coming to America illegally, it causes society to suffer for their greediness. Recently, I thought children shouldn’t be penalized for their parent’s actions, but that’s not how i see the issue anymore. There is a great chance that anchor babies will destroy America’s future and ruin our economy.
Child soldiers are a prevalent issue in the international community and must be stopped. Whether kidnapped, enslaved, or volunteered: child soldiers are a clear violation of human rights. The United Nations are actively working to eradicate the issue by creating programs such as the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) which is a treaty that contains three Optional Protocols, the first of which is aimed at protecting children’s rights.
Now that you realise how much of a problem child soldiers are allowed me to give you some background. Children have been in the military all throughout history but as drummer boys or the girls as chefs. This quickly evolved until boys were marching into a
Children were forced to join if they do not have an education, been adopted, or their family is poor. People in the past lost many children in a war than the modern death today. Forty percent of the armed forces, including national armies, militias, gangs, terrorist, and special forces in the world use children In Iraq. Child Soldiers are all over and have been widely discussed. They have caused some the worst crimes but under some circumstances where they had no choice. These children should be given amnesty depending if the child soldiers can be rehabilitated and learn what they did was horrible, wrong, and they wouldn’t kill again. Not all can be given amnesty but at least we can give a few children a chance to live a life without the drugs, killings, and abuse.
“Stolen people, stolen dream” is the brutality faced by numerous, vulnerable, gullible children in the black market around the world even in the admirable United States. Trafficking of children is the modern day slavery, the act of recruiting, harboring, transporting, providing, or obtaining a person for compelled labor or commercial sex acts through the use of force, fraud, or coercion. More than ever, it has become a lucrative method that is trending in the underground economy. A pimp can profit up to $150,000 per children from age 4-12 every year, as reported by the UNICEF. Also, according to the International Labor Organization statistics, “There are 20.9 million victim of human trafficking globally, with hundreds of thousands in the United
Currently, only 60% of children in DRC enroll in school, as it is both too expensive and not mandatory. Moreover, the DRC has long struggle with starvation, sexual abuse, prostitution, and child displacement, further amplifying the issue, as children see military service as a way out of poverty. DRC has recognized both the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child and Security Council Resolution 1321, yet the problem remains prominent as many former child soldiers are unable to return to their families. Therefore, the Democratic Republic of the Congo hopes to pass a resolution which, first, ends the use of child soldiers, while also improving domestic living standards for children in emerging nations, as this may be the root cause of the
Poverty is “the state of one who lacks a usual or socially acceptable amount of money or material possessions” (Merriam-Webster dictionary, 2015); in other words, struggling to provide a comfortable living style. It is the cause of family stress and many other problems, especially for the children. Millions of people around the world are struggling with poverty; families suffering to provide enough food seem to be growing in numbers. According to the United States Census Bureau, the poverty rate was highest in the 1960s and decreased greatly in the 1970s. However, it is now slowly starting to increase again. Recently released census data by the Bureau showed that one in five people are living in poverty (Census Bureau, 2014). Poverty is even
