Serious crisis in America. Karly and Kelsey Richardson, two students at Grand Canyon University, decided to go to the Grand Canyon to see the sunrise around 2 am, but they never made it. On the way to Grand Canyon, the two sisters collided head on with a wrong way driver on Interstate 17 and all three died instantly. Keaton Allison, the wrong way driver, had a BAC level of .25 percent. In Arizona the “super extreme BAC level is .2 percent. Allison almost drove six miles before hitting the two Richardson sisters. The police later found out that Allison was driving 15 miles per hour over the speed limit and without headlights on. The Richardson sisters did not have any alcohol in their bodies. The detection system will fist trigger LED signs stating that the driver is going the wrong way. It will automatically notify the police and send a police unit out to stop the driver. “On freeway ramps, wrong-way vehicles will trigger alerts, including illuminated signs with flashing lights, aimed at getting drivers to stop. The system will immediately warn other drivers through overhead message boards as well as law enforcement.” (Interstate 17 Wrong-Way). This is the best way because it is a good way to notify other drivers on the freeway faster and prevent wrong-way crashes. This will also help police because they can be trained to handle a situation like this and find a way to stop the driver immediately to prevent any accidents on the freeway. Overall this is the best solution for everyone's safety because it is the best way to notify everyone immediately to stay out of harm's
“A friend of mine, Barbara Silva, a nurse at Waltham school was driving to work on Route 128 when another car suddenly cut her off. For some reason the truck ahead of [that car] braked abruptly and [the car] banged into it. She slammed into [the car]. It was a horrible accident. It could have been avoided if [the other car] hadn’t jumped lanes.
With the introduction of the automobile in the early 1900s, laws have been instituted to protect drivers on the road. With these laws come lawbreakers who put their agenda in front of the well being of others. Tens of thousands of lives have been lost. billions of dollars have been spent, and pollution has grown exponentially because of this. drivers travelling at high speeds on roads (Hartman).
According to a June 2, Newsweek article, Tracie Alfieri became enraged by the manner in which Rene Andrews pulled into her lane. Alfieri tried to pass Andrews on the right then cut in front and hit the brakes causing Andrews to swerve into a stopped tractor resulting in the loss of Andrews' 6 month old unborn child. Tracie Alfieri was convicted this May of vehicular manslaughter and sentenced to 18 months in prison. (Newsweek)2. In the most commonly cited incident of road rage, which ended in three deaths: Narkey Terry and Billy Canipe became involved in a game of cat and mouse because Canipe was moving too slowly in the left lane.
In the 21st century, our nation is facing a major issue, causing teenagers to lose their lives at the hand of the wheel due to inexperienced driving. “Teen drivers between the ages of 16 and 19 are four times more likely than older drivers to be involved in an automobile crash,” and statistics show. Automobile accidents are the number one cause of teen deaths. Driving regulations are in high need to be changed in order for teenagers to gain more experience with driving before taking the driving test, which could help save countless adolescence’s lives.
All around the nation, where these unforgiving cameras have been installed, the number of accidents—in general, with only a few particular differences—the accident rate has increased, yet, the issue of these cameras is still a debate. In a common sense way, the fact that the accidents and risks have increased due to their installment, the intelligent and proper thing to do would be eliminate… Supporters of the photo radars argue that the cameras are for safety and the reduction of accidents, but the numbers just simply do not add up… “That reduction has never happened, according to official data obtained by the group Citizens for Responsible Aurora Government (CRAG). The city admitted accidents increased at three of the four intersections monitored by red light cameras.” (Accident Data). Something that increases the number of car accidents in any sense should be reformed to change that, yet these cameras although portrayed as safety helpers are nothing but increasing accidents for drivers,
We as a society need to all take responsibility when we are on the road and avoid the many temptations and distractions surrounding us. Distracted driving is dangerous plain and simple. Some may be willing to take the risk because they have never had an accident while behind the wheel. But it’s
Motorists who have snapped and committed incredible violence are mostly men and women with no known histories of crime, violence, or alcohol and drug abuse. They are the people typically described by neighbors “the nicest woman or man” or “a wonderful mother or father.”
Drunk driving kills thousands of innocent people every year. On the morning of January 10th, 1988, Ellen Lurigś son was killed by a drunk driver. Her son, named Robert was planning on spending the day with his father. ¨My son spent the day with his dad, while another man, a 37-year-old father, spent his day in a bar.¨ It was a beautiful day out, when they returned home, Robert let the dogs out.
I constantly see drivers switching lanes without signaling that they are going to do so. My step grandma says that her first husband’s reaction to drivers not using their blinker was, “What happened? Did ya run out of blinker fluid?” Although there is no such thing as blinker fluid to explain the idiocy of most drivers, I can understand the statement behind it. If you switch lanes without letting the driver behind in the other lane know then how is he going to know to slow down their car in order for you to switch over? Use your blinker in order to prevent accidents. Another thing people stop doing is following the speed limit signs. If you’re driving in a neighborhood then slow down so you do not hit anyone or anything. Nobody ever knows when a child or adult can just carelessly run across the street. If someone is speeding down a neighborhood and a child runs out right in front of the car unknowingly then there is no way the driver will stop in time to prevent hitting that child. That could end someone’s
As mentioned above, two thirds of the fifty eight thousand highway deaths last year, 2004 were related to aggressive driving. In a recent survey by roadrage.com reported that six out of ten people reported that they were followed by a driver displeased with their driving. Another survey reported that out of those six people, four reported a chase of more than ten miles and out of the four, three reported being followed to their house. A questionnaire posted by roadragers.com surveyed 600,000 thousand people and out of those 600,000 thousand 216,000 people reported that they know someone who was killed or injured by an aggressive driver.
Did you ever have those days where you are on the road rushing to get somewhere, but the speed limits 25 mile per hour? Isn’t that a pain?! Most people in this world have less patience, and there aren't really anymore slow Sunday drives down through the park. Imagine this scenario, a husband at work just received a phone call saying that his wife is in labor at a hospital about 30 minutes away. His job is near a grammar school with roads that have speed limits of 25 miles per hour.
“The one thing that unites all human beings, regardless of age, gender, religion, economic status, or ethnic background, is that, deep down inside, we all believe that we are above-average drivers” -Dave Barry, comedian. The number of accidents over the last ten years have drastically increased, drivers are paying less attention to the road itself. Many individuals behind the wheel of a car believe that their driving does not affect the road conditions, however it always will. The driving habits of today are catastrophic due to the reasoning that the driving will affect other lives through reckless or distracted driving, and disobeying traffic laws.
Traffic signals are ubiquitous in the US and in major parts of the developed world. Without a doubt, they play an enormous role in our transportation system in maintaining road safety and alleviating congestion. Although we use traffic signals every day, few people know about their origin and the remarkable technological innovations that went into their development. This essay explores the history of traffic signals and how they have evolved through time.
Signpost: Though the driver may feel justified in his or her action, this kind of display is most times very dangerous and often will result in damage to either the vehicles, the drivers and nonverbal messages.
Road safety is one of the most important aspects of daily living. Our vehicle is our main transportation from one place to another. The number of car and motorcycle accidents seem to be increasing because of the many distractions, the lack of safety measures and judgment to road conditions and weather. Not being cautious increases the chances of not only injuring ourselves but hurting others as well. On the road, you see people talking on their cell phones or texting, eating, putting makeup on, changing the radio station, reading or using your GPS while driving. These are all distractions that endanger drivers, passengers and bystanders safety. Safe driving involves off-road precautionary measures such as making sure tires are properly inflated, testing windshield wipers, getting regular oil changes and tune-ups and adjusting the mirrors. All of these actions can help prevent an accident. Unfortunately, not all of us decide to wear our seat belts when driving or turn signal ligh...
