Renewable Resources The sun exists as one of the highest abundant sources of energy. Yet the world neglects to implement solar technology as a dependable resource. Daily, Americans make the switch to solar energy and cut dependency from local utilities. One of the greatest advantages of harvesting solar energy stands that the sun shines for long durations throughout the day and the sun rises every day; hence, reliability. Other natural renewable resources are available such as hydro, wind, geothermal, biomass and nuclear energy. Renewable energy is the key to improvising in the way we create energy while minimizing damage to the earth. Through thorough research science and engineering have created high tech technology that emits less Co2 by
With the addition of solar panels for every “ $1,000 invested in solar power results in twice as many jobs as $1,000 invested in coal power, and nearly 3 times more jobs as $1,000 invested in natural gas.” (Shahan) supporting solar power equals: jobs. Although, solar panels need very little maintenance routine cleaning will be needed to guarantee the highest quality of induction. The argument from those that oppose solar technology is that if solar energy replaces fossil fuel usage this will eliminate thousands of jobs in oil based states like Texas, where in some cities like Odessa, most of the labor force is driven by the oil market. However, if renewable energy tech is implemented this will create thousands of new job in manufacturing, installation and maintenance. A benefit of jobs that have renewable energy unlike oil it will not be the only resource being used so the price of oil will not influence the work force. Harvesting the suns energy is one of the biggest gold mines waiting to be found. While the research concludes many benefits one of the most obvious is that solar power is 100% natural, there are no emissions released when using solar panels. Solar panels are Mother Nature approved. This resource unlike fossil fuels is a renewable resource. A benefit of the sun is the guarantee of it rising every day. Therefore, the reliability of producing heat every day is definitive. The sun is at its highest temperature peak around midafternoon which is great as this tends to be the time most people use energy. Unfortunately one of the biggest cons that face solar power is the argument that the shine does not shine in all places as much as others such as Alaska. Utilities have argued that the reliability on electricity could be at risk if not much solar power is produced in those areas with the lack of sunlight in areas depending on the time of the year. One of the benefits of solar power is that if
Thirty-seven percent of the energy used in the United States comes from oil. Natural gas comes in at second, contributes twenty five percent of the energy. Coal gives us twenty one percent of our energy while the other seventeen percent comes from other energy sources. Those other resources include nuclear, wind, and mostly solar. Besides the environmental harm that some people think fracking has, it has the potential to produce more natural gas and oil. It also is a non-renewable resource and will take a very long time for it to come back because of the earth’s natural creation. Solar and wind power are renewable, but do not produce enough energy to run our country. All of the solar panels and wind mills we have on the earth right now could ...
Preview: Today I will discuss the potential that solar power has to become this country’s main supply of energy and the latest research that can make solar power more efficient and cost effective. I will also present the environmental benefits that come with using solar power over other and more harmful forms of energy.
Solar power for instance is one of the most popular and easiest of all of the renewable energy sources to harness, especially for home and business uses. (Galbraith) For around the same ...
The future of the United States solar energy industry will be shaped not only by economic growth, but also by the rate of declining oil resources and the global realization of the consequences of human induced climate change. Political responses to this realization in the United States include; new policies, legislature, and tax incentives to both businesses and private households to promote growth and investment in the solar power industry.
Although solar seems to be excluded from most of the disadvantages listed above tied to using renewable energy sources, it still has two big main disadvantages. The first being that, it is impossible to shut off. The fact that there is no way to shut these solar panels off makes them prone to catch fire. This is harmful to the place they are located. It is especially bad when people put them on their roofs which can cause house fires. Another big issue with solar is that it takes a lot of room for the amount of energy that it produces. According to the U.S. Energy Information Association to produce 1 MW of solar energy, assuming that your panels are located in price sunny locations, it takes 7.4 acres of solar panels. When you compare it to the nuclear reactors that produce on average 770MW for approximately 500 acres of land. To produce the same amount of energy as one single nuclear reactor you would need approximately 5698 acres of land which is 11 times the amount of space that nuclear
The United States currently relies heavily on coal, oil, and natural gas for its energy. While the price of natural gas per barrel continues to plummet, the United States is constantly seeking new sources of renewable energy. Renewable energy consists of any type of natural resource (solar power, ocean power, wind power, rain, snow, etc.). that naturally and automatically replenishes itself. Renewable energy is important because it is infinite and everlasting, meaning our children and our children’s children will be able to utilize these resources long after we are gone.
Though this statement is supported by the International Energy Agency (IEA), an authoritative international institution that making his statement much credible, we should realise that there is an underlying assumption for this premise to be true, that is, the current policies are unchanged. Since we are not sure whether the current policies would continue or not, this premise is not necessarily true. On the contrary, according to another report by IEA, solar electricity is estimated to cover 25% of the world’s total electricity needs by 2050, taking up the largest portion of all sources of electricity (IEA,
Energy is the basic necessity of daily life. Nowadays, dependence on fossil fuels for energy needs becoming lower in numerous countries due to the potential of renewable energy to supply sustainable energy to the huge populations in many developing countries who are short of clean and continues energy. Generally, renewable energy can be defined as energy that is derived from natural resources which are constantly replenished and theoretically inexhaustible. Fossil fuels on the other hand can be described as energy that cannot be renewed and will eventually diminish. Thus, in many developing countries renewable energy is the alternative energy to replace non-renewable energy or commonly known as fossil fuels. In addition, according to Sorensen (2004), there is a greater demand for renewable energy sources nowadays due to the uncertainty of fuel price rise in living expenses. Commonly, there are many types of renewable energy available in our world such as wind power, biomass energy, solar energy, hydroelectric power and geothermal energy. However, the main three example of renewable energy are hydroelectric power, solar and biomass energy (Refer to Figure 1 in Appendix 1).
The sun has been a major aspect of life since the beginning of time. People used many other forms of energy before electricity was discovered. There has been a debate over energy resources for years. Many people are worried about what current energy resources may be doing to the environment. Oil spills and nuclear power plant mishaps have only been a few accidents that have had a big impact on the environment and the people who inhabit it. There are plenty of energy sources that do not harm the environment and are still able to get the job done. Solar energy is one energy alternative that will insure the betterment of the country and, at the same time, protect the natural environment.
Our country is currently suffering energy-wise, we have been powering with inefficient sources for years now and the harm that it is doing to the country has started to become apparent. Renewable energy is the only way to stop, or at the very least set back the inevitable downfall of our ecosystem. I think that the next big breakthrough for renewable energy is implementing off-grid communities that use renewable sources as their main sources of power, so that we can potentially escape the energy rut that we got ourselves stuck in.
Solar is a viable alternative energy source with solar panels becoming more affordable and more efficiently designed.
Solar is an even better alternative to other forms of renewable energy. In the book Renewable: The World Changing Power of Alternative Energy, Jeremy Shere says that “enough sunlight falls on Earth every hour to meet the world’s energy demands for an entire year” (89). There is no other form of energy in as much abundance as the sun provides. Solar energy is even more reliable and more available than another popular renewable energy source, wind energy. Wind energy is much more expensive than solar energy, and requires much more maintenance than solar energy according to an article in Go Green in Your Home.
One of the most compelling arguments for the use of renewable energy is how many forms exist of it. Nuclear power, solar power, wind power, tidal power, hydroelectric power, pumped storage, wave power, geothermal power, biomass, and biogas are the most widely known renewable energy sources (Darvill, 2013). This large selection of fuels supports the idea of renewable fuels one day powering the entire planet. All the sources of energy have different niches and benefits. Solar energy is extremely effective when providing energy for small establishments such as a house or small store, but hydrothermal power would be a more plausible solution for factories or large establishments....
...t is readily available to us freely. The sunlight and heat will always be available to us because, it is a non-extinguishing resource and so, let us make use of it. With all these points made, there is no question that, solar energy is capable of becoming the world's future power supply.
Furthermore, renewable energy technologies are being developed in the United States which has provided a boost in the trade deficit. The use of renewable resources will improve energy security and energy independence. It provides various types of energy resources like sun, biomass, geothermal energy and water resources. It will also provide electricity to rural areas. It will also improve political relations between different countries by using advanced techniques of energy solutions.
